It's out next week, titled 'Revenge'. I've ordered it already!

He’s all mixed up. Why does he imagine anyone in the US gives a stuff about his title or wants to hear his views?

Sounds like your the one mixed up.
When did Harry give a 4th of July speech and what did he say?

Samcro · 19/07/2022 11:40

has anyone read the actual book?

LurkingMarauder · 19/07/2022 11:47

Forgive me if this has already been posted. Sam Kashner has written a letter to the Times denying Tom Bower's account of his interview with Meghan.

First, Buckingham Palace 'sources' appeared to distance themselves from the “thank goodness Meghan is not coming” quip made by the Queen.

Sources close to the Queen question whether she would have anything other than Philip on her mind on the day of the funeral.

Now this.

Bower is a hack and a terrible disgrace.

It's not actually out yet, is it? So, unless someone has connections in the publishing world or press, then it's a no.

Roussette · 19/07/2022 11:58

@LurkingMarauder

Thanks for that. There we go then. All that rubbish posted on this thread about what Kashner said is bollocks. And Bower just makes it up as he goes along in order to cash in on the We Hate Meghan bandwagon.

He sounds pretty annoyed actually. I would be too. Being told I said something I did not.

notanotheroneagain · 19/07/2022 12:00

I guess those 1000 sources will comment once they read the book when it comes out. It really does have Lady C vibes, best-seller only before it comes out.

For now here is Sam Keshner take on his much publicised view.

Crosspost @LurkingMarauder

Tom Bower is a big, fat liar !

I wonder what VF themselves have to say. Can't wait for the domino effect. He has smeared everyone concerned. From Sam himself, to the editors of VF - whom he portrayed as smearing Hollywood. I am sure the book is full of smears.

It would be funny if everyone, but H&M sue him though.

The letter doesn’t seem to deny the account

notanotheroneagain · 19/07/2022 12:26

It very much does deny what Thomas Bower says.

Poor guy, now he will know not to talk too much, the nefarious British media will turn your words into something else.

MarshaMelrose · 19/07/2022 12:29

I don't understand that letter. Kashner denies he felt manipulated but doesn't deny that Williams said they weren't friends or other facts. So that would sort of imply those things were true? But what stumps me most is that wouldn't Bower have taped named sources? Why didn't he do that to cover himself?

Also the letter does not say that the comments about Vanity Fair fact checkers raising questions about the accuracy of the proctor and gamble story is false

Roussette · 19/07/2022 12:34

What? It totally denies it. Bower accusing him of having a stammer is really not very nice either.

Serenster · 19/07/2022 12:35

Here’s a screenshot of his letter.

I admit, I find this fascinating. Sam Karshner does not deny that anything printed in the Tom Bower extract is true, or that he didn’t say it. Except for the quoted comment that Meghan Markle said she liked his stutter. Very interesting, that’s about the only specific allegation in the whole account that you could consider casts Meghan in a poor light (and which she might be able to sue him on!).

What Sam Kurshner does say is that the book does not convey his admiration of Meghan alongside his account of the interview process. But, as a very experienced VF interviewer and author himself he will know full well that it the author’s choice what to include or not include, and what to focus on in an interview. They are never just reproducing a transcript. He would know that full well when he spoke to Tom Bower.

And, such a flattering letter about Meghan, but not just about when he met her, but how happy her marriage is…how very interesting

Yes, how lovely that is.

notanotheroneagain · 19/07/2022 12:38

It very much denies.
It's a letter though, the rest is probably for discussion between lawyers. And quite a lot of them may be involved subsequently in the end. Good thing he is not making things inadmissible and muddying.

Serenster · 19/07/2022 12:46

It very much denies.

I have no doubt we’ll have to agree to disagree about this . It very much doesn’t - it is carefully worded to express regret about what Tom Bower’s account didn’t include, and regret about what Vanity Fair edited out of his original article, but there’s only one thing he denies - that Meghan ever said “ I like you, especially because of your stuttering”.

The bit where he says “I felt manipulated” - he hasn’t said anything about that comment, you’ll note. Just the one very specific allegation that might be sued over.

He is a jobbing journalist. I did wonder a bit about his apparent willingness to be a named source in the book. Freelancers generally aren’t keen to bite the hands that feed them, which are both the editors and the subjects. I wonder whether he thought he was being interviewed by Bower for background?

Yeah, it’s a non-denial denial. He’s found himself on a bit of a public tightrope there. Poor chap.

There is nothing shameful about having a stammer. Come on now.

Don't try and twist what I meant. Come on now.

He obviously umms and ahhhs a lot so this journo decides to say he has got a stutter. Of course there is nothing wrong with having a stutter but to stick that in a book when you don't actually know whether it's true or not, and then pretend Meghan likes him for his stutter, really isn't very pleasant.

It's making stuff up to pad out a book.

Serenster · 19/07/2022 12:58

He didn’t. The VF journalist says Meghan told him: “I like you, especially because of your stuttering”.

That seems to have been the sentence that caused some angst somewhere.

Too gushing. Unusual for a man. The giveaway as to his agenda is that he uses the letter to speak directly to H & M to offer his "Belated congratulations to Prince Harry for taking such as extraordinary women as his bride".

He is doing repair work in case he is sued.

Serenster · 19/07/2022 13:02

I think there’s a good chance he’s been told “publish this and you won’t be sued”.

(Of course I have no idea if this true or not, but this is walking, talking and quacking like a duck…)

So you're saying Meghan and Harry are threatening him? Is this what I'm taking from your post?
