Andrew returning to public life

"Prince Andrew — who recently paid a multimillion-pound settlement to Virginia Giuffre to keep her allegations of sexual abuse, which he denies, out of court — is set to make a controversial return to public life on Monday.

As a member of the Order of the Garter, this country’s oldest and most senior order of chivalry, Andrew, 62, will appear alongside senior members of the royal family at the Garter Day service at Windsor Castle."

@worriedatthistime the argument then is other rich people get out of paying their taxes so it is okay?
And we do not give other rich people money from our taxes every year.
I am under no illusion that they will be abolished. But I wish they had.

@antelopevalley are they really and none have gone to ruin or had to be sold off ?
I live near them they are popular with some but not something people will do in years to come so much , lockdown helped as often only places open
But mostly you visit and half the house will be shut off
People around here go purely for the outside spaces

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:54

@antelopevalley public money on form of grants is also paid to NT so taxpayers money as well

SpindleSheWrote · 13/06/2022 11:54

Thank goodness that Princes Charles & William can at least 'read the room'

Aye, but only to save themselves though. They're not doing it for the greater good, or ethics, or for any philanthropic reason.

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:55

@SpindleSheWrote why wouldn't they do it to save themselves , do you live your life only to help others and never think about yourself

Roussette · 13/06/2022 11:55

Many a rich people get out of inheritance tax, the likes of you and I do not as we don't have enough to set up trusts

What like the Queen Mother who owed millions and then avoided IHT by leaving it to the next Sovereign, her daughter? Why the hell some of them don't have consciences and give back I do not know

Roussette · 13/06/2022 11:56

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:55

Because they put the Monarchy and themselves front and centre in everything. At all costs it must be preserved whatever the public thinks about their shenanigans.

antelopevalley · 13/06/2022 12:03

@worriedatthistime This may come as a surprise to you, but I do not act unethically. I do not avoid taxes, I do not lie and I try and help others.
I do not have photos of me taken doing charity work to promote myself while pocketing money for it.
I try and follow the example of my parents who lived in a rented council house without much money but put food in the foodbank every week for people struggling to eat.
The Royal Family do not care a shit about the many people struggling in this country. They are out for themselves.

@antelopevalley well good fo you being such a model citizen but they do , do a lot for charity so that is a fact wether you like it or not and have likely given more than me or you ever could
The laws are there as they are the royal family , the monarchy that is just life , you can't change everything you don't like in the world
Rich people will always be rich , wealth will never be equally distrubuted
And what has your parents living in a council house go to do with anything , i still live in one but is irrelevant

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 12:11

@antelopevalley and you don't know them personally or know what they think or care about
The photos are taken by the press and you know charities like publicity as it helps raise more funds , you have no idea if they donate privately to charities of their choice
You have made a lot of assumptions yourself
You also don't know when they are paid or not paid , some attendances will be paid others may not
Do you have the same issue with all the famous people on comic relief etc asking for money who are very rich and could give up a fraction of their money and make others more comfortable ?
I mean who really needs millions

Mamamia7962 · 13/06/2022 12:11

Watching the Platinum Jubilee on TV and the vast crowds outside Buckingham Palace and along The Mall, I would say they are still very popular.

SausagePourHomme · 13/06/2022 12:13

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 11:33

@SausagePourHomme they do have private money , they own land
Have you not heard of the duchy estates ? They don't have their money from you

Just because some fucker stole land 800 years ago and kept it in the family, it doesnt mean it wasn't stolen.

antelopevalley · 13/06/2022 12:24

@worriedatthistime They do not donate to charity. They publicise any tiny thing they do for charities. Even the so-called "private" visits are publicised. They include in the Court Circular phone calls with charities and meetings. They even publicised when William and Catherine took some brownies to a refugee event. I mean big fucking deal. They took some brownies and they still had to have photos taken of them delivering a tray of brownies and release it to the press. Disgusting behaviour.

@worriedatthistime they are paid by the taxpayers for their so-called charity work. I really hope none of them is paid more money on top.
Andrew's so-called charity work was mainly attending top gold clubs and playing a round of golf and dinners. He was being paid to enjoy himself.

@SausagePourHomme you can't change history , maybe someone in your family took something from someone 809 years ago too , you have no idea as your not public profile and that was how it was then
Many of us might not like what we found in our family history if we went far bacj

HydraWater · 13/06/2022 12:30

Some people just love being ruled by a Sovereign. They must have a deep inferiority complex if they cannot see that an entity like the RF is totally out of touch, dodgy as F, and full of undereducated wasters who haven't worked a day in their lives.

It is not that hard to work it out. But hey, be thankful for bread and circuses, but the peasants will be permanently kept outside the Castle gates.

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 12:31

@antelopevalley do you have access to their private accounts ? No I thought not.
If course they do things public ally that is part of their role, also papparazzi get wind of a lot
You really do not know what they may or may not give privately you are assuming and also them supporting charities often helps the profile of the charity
It is not as clear cut as you are trying to make it
Royal family all bad , all would be great if we never had them , we will be so much richer and less suffering
Im bored now as i actually don't care one way or the other if we have a royal family as it will make zero difference to my life
But i can see two sides and its not as black and white as anti royalists make it

worriedatthistime · 13/06/2022 12:31

@HydraWater and how will your life change if we don't have them , they don't rule is though, we vote a goverment into do that

Isn't that the whole point of being a royal... and, a President, a Prime Minister, a Mayor, and anyone else who rules over us, whether voted in or not?

HydraWater · 13/06/2022 12:40

Not much, but it would give me great satisfaction to see the lot of them go. You do know that it is OK to criticise them right?

They don't actually DO anything useful at all, so I would ask you what is the point of them?

We cannot get rid of them, but thankfully we can vote the current lot out of Government every few years if that is what the people decide.

MintJulia · 13/06/2022 12:48

The Queen and the palace know perfectly well that Andrew cannot return to royal life. He needs to accept that, but clearly hasn't got there yet.

To be fair, he was never found guilty of anything, so he can live quietly as a private citizen. However his profound lack of judgement and his ongoing inability to manage his financial affairs mean that he cannot be trusted with a public role ever again.

His daughters don’t need rehabilitating, they haven’t done anything.

Ever.

They are the most useless wastes of space.

Mamamia7962 · 13/06/2022 13:21

HydraWater - Really!! "The Queen doesn't do anything useful" -

Go and do some reading! You probably think she sits in the parlour all day eating bread and honey!! 🙄

MaulPerton · 13/06/2022 13:33

Why "thankfully"? They really, really are all the same. The biggest realisation of all is that this is all theatre, whether political, royal, or, otherwise. Unfortunately.

If my family were still benefiting and profiting from something they stole i might think you had point. But no. And there is something that can be done about it. People need to wake up.
