Andrew returning to public life

"Prince Andrew — who recently paid a multimillion-pound settlement to Virginia Giuffre to keep her allegations of sexual abuse, which he denies, out of court — is set to make a controversial return to public life on Monday.

As a member of the Order of the Garter, this country’s oldest and most senior order of chivalry, Andrew, 62, will appear alongside senior members of the royal family at the Garter Day service at Windsor Castle."

In no way am I defending the despicable Andrew and his ex however neither of them have ever said they don’t want to be part of the RF( not that S is a member) Quite the opposite.
H and M have been openly critical so why not cut ties ?

Very critical,
but they still trade off their titles and connections to the RF. They have no other claim to fame and no other marketability

Roussette · 16/06/2022 13:13

They seem to be doing pretty well over in States. Even if the gave up their titles, nothing would change. Harry will always be either grandson, son or brother of the UK monarch

FoiledByTheInsect · 16/06/2022 13:23

It's a combination of things. I think sibling rivalry is massive in their case. It's like H feels hard done by as the spare prince and doesn't see why Wills should get all the attention and 4 houses, when H's wife is equally beautiful and suited for the role of serf influencer. Also W comes off as sanctiminious and bossy, "do as I say and conform to stereotype Harry, even if you're getting zilch", no self respecting man is going to let himself be pushed out and dictated to by his own brother.

If the UK is going to continue sponsoring this muppet show, H has every right to continue to want his part in it, on his terms not his brother's.

(Not saying H&M aren't also money grabbing because they all are).

JemimaPuddlegoose · 16/06/2022 13:28

They have no other claim to fame and no other marketability

Yet Meghan managed to become a millionaire in her own right before she ever met Harry, had a successful acting career starring on a TV series, and wrote a successful blog.

At least they have basic decency and are genuinely concerned about people. Kate Middleton turning up to a Grenfell memorial wearing a £2500 dress and neither she or Will could be bothered to wear wear something green when everyone else did. Awful! Just so lazy and exploitative.

And now trying to twist owning four massive houses, three with live-in staff (surprising given they can't keep staff and their staff have gone to the press to leak stories about what a terrible boss Kate is) and the fourth with separate staff quarters, into "but but but they're going to have a modest house with no live-in staff!" Yeah, and the rest!

Raspberryjam22 · 16/06/2022 13:36

@JemimaPuddlegoose

Are you mixing up Duchesses ? If you mean the DOC is a bad boss , you really need to post links . The Cambridges have had the same nanny since George was born . Unlike another Duchess .

I personally think Andrew should be moving to Adelaide Cottage, and William/Kate given Royal Lodge which is slightly more fitting for the heir to the throne and the future heir.

Nothing has changed for Andrew whatsoever except he that can't walk around in public like an overstuffed peacock, let's face it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/06/2022 13:44

(H&M) still trade off their titles and connections to the RF. They have no other claim to fame and no other marketability

True enough, but so do very many of them. Andrew and his ex need no further advertisement and others have been discussed at various times, but now even the heir's implicated in flogging honours - and these are just the things we know about

As said before, the whole thing's so utterly discredited that I honestly believe they're now just fighting at the trough while they've still got the chance. It may take time, but this surely can't go on for ever

Roussette · 16/06/2022 13:45

Jemima.. ...it's a modest cottage doncha know

Modest my arse

Andrew returning to public life
Roussette · 16/06/2022 13:50

Agree on Royal Lodge. Why should a disgraced member of the RF and his tedious ex wife ponce about in 96 acres, indoor swimming pool, cinema and massive house?
It's honestly a joke

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/06/2022 13:54

Not sure about the Royal Lodge thing myself, considering who's lived there for ages - W&K may not want the connections, and what chance undesirables hanging around, which surely wouldn't be welcome with 3 young children there?

And yes I know there's security, but it didn't stop Spacey and Ghislaine draping themselves across the thrones, etc, etc.

Roussette · 16/06/2022 14:14

Yes, I just think he lives in gobsmackingly palatial surroundings for someone who is disgraced

Raspberryjam22 · 16/06/2022 15:57

I agree on that point .

MaulPerton · 16/06/2022 15:57

Oh, it does. Each generation discovers it anew so that by the time outrage sets in, people are too old and knackered to do anything about it (and, can't do anything about it anyway). Plus, they have a plethora of tricks up their sleeve to smooth out any ripples in public sentiment - Andrew packing charity boxes, the queen sitting by her two-bar electric heater with her Tupperware cereal boxes, Charles patching up his suits. As soon as the image is tweaked, everyone breathes a sigh of relief and the whole thing continues.

Roussette · 16/06/2022 16:25

@MaulPerton

I laughed at that, you are so right! They really know how to pull the public's strings don't they!

When it's all going a bit stale, just send W&K off to a film premiere and get the star of it to gracefully lead Kate up the steps. That took a week to die down I swear

CathyorClaire · 16/06/2022 16:27

Not an expert but there was some kind of deal whereby Andrew paid for the refurb and added a relatively paltry sum on top which gave him a seventy five year lease on it. Edward rattles round in the palatial Bagshot courtesy of a similarly sweet deal. I'm not sure how easy it would actually be to kick Andrew out and bearing in mind he'd be clinging to the doorpost with his fingernails it might not be worth the dramatics grating as it is for us plebs.

Nothing has changed for Andrew whatsoever except he that can't walk around in public like an overstuffed peacock, let's face it

Yep. A point I made when the peasants were expected to shut up and be satisfied he'd lost his royal trinkets.

A choice of palaces and all their facilities to lay low in and Mummy's ear to bend on the unfairness of it all whenever he chooses.

Lolliesareonme · 16/06/2022 20:22

Just listening to LBC while cooking and Fergie has done an interview (primarily promoting her book). The last 10 mins she talks about Andrew if anyone is interested.

Roussette · 16/06/2022 21:32

I listened to some of that interview. Deluded. She is.

TequilaSunriseforme · 16/06/2022 21:35

Why does she always talk about him as though he’s her husband? It’s so creepy.

I agree. They've been divorced over 20 years yet she bangs on about him being her best friend, her rock blah blah....
Well... if he was that perfect they would never have divorced. I wish she would just button it

I think they still live together?

Vapeyvapevape · 16/06/2022 22:08

I couldn't listen to all of the interview, nauseating.

Vapeyvapevape · 16/06/2022 22:10

I think they only got divorced for appearances sake .

NoRegretsNoTearsGoodbye · 16/06/2022 22:23

Yes I thought their divorce was just to make it look like she’d been “punished” for her misdemeanours. Don’t think they ever stopped living together? Fuck knows what she sees in him - I know he’s rich but creep doesn’t come close 😱🤢.

TequilaSunriseforme · 16/06/2022 22:29

If they were still together after they divorced, surely she’d be incensed about him seeing prostitutes? Because that’s what it was.

ClinicallyProven · 16/06/2022 22:31

It's clearly not a normal marriage with fidelity expected on either side
