and thinks Camilla is a great choice for him?

Prince Charles has made the best of difficult circumstances that none of the rest of us could ever understand. He works hard and The Prince's Trust has supported thousands of young people.
I think Camilla is fab, and I would love to have a G&T (or two!) with her.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 12/05/2022 17:44

Neither like nor dislike him, but do feel sorry for him.
Also think it's a shame he and Camilla didn't marry before either if them married other people.

I think he's okay. He seems kind and friendly and tolerant and I like that he'd very much in touch with nature a d the environment. I think him and Camilla make a perfect couple.
I can't believe people here are still going on about his split with Diana and holding that against him. That was a quarter of a century ago and Diana was no angel herself. In any case, couple make mistakes, they split and they move on with life. How many people here have had failed marriages and moved on. We don't define everyone by their first failed marriage so why is Charles still held to it. Sure he has his own regrets.

Pretty much sums up how I feel. Also, the Princes Trust has given so many people opportunities. Apparently the Queen and PP were unsupportive when he first started it.

Because if you insist on waiting for a person of utmost purity before you allow any advocacy for the environment then this planet is fucked. An imperfect advocate is better than no advocate at all.

Except, if you publicly preach one thing but do another, you run the risk of reducing the issue to your own personal business or career opportunity. If you genuinely care about the issue, then surely you also practice what you preach? Do the attendees at eco-conferences who rock up in their yachts and private jets actually care about the environment or do they see an opportunity to score some political points, bask in virtue-signalling glory, make business deals or progress up the career ladder (not going to mention Harry and Meghan here 😀)?

I am swayed by pro monarchy arguments

Can you elaborate on these?

CathyorClaire · 12/05/2022 21:00

Quite.

Unlikely to happen though given our pampered overlord-to-be's penchant for very short haul helicopter rides, empty private jets arriving to take him places he has to be and serious grouse shooting habit.

CathyorClaire · 12/05/2022 21:07

I’d rather have some benign, bumbling old ‘out of touch’ cosseted royal wheeled out to hob-nob and glad-hand the world’s despots and freaks than some Johnny-come-lately Tumpesque elected Head of State on an ego trip

God, it gets tedious pointing out the obvious but....Trumps can and clearly do get voted out of office.

Unelected royals get the gig regardless. It's always worth remembering that but for an accident of birth order we'd be looking at our next king being Andrew and sweet FA to be done about it.

What an awful thought. Or Harry as King. 😝

Don’t like him or her. They have done a great PR job on both of them.

But he was no naive when he chose Diana - couple of dates and a virgin - he knew what he was getting but my god he threw her to the wolves didn’t he. Ignoring her on honeymoon etc imagine if one of your friends did that to your 17/18/19 DD today and he was 30 and then did that on honeymoon. Says it all. He treated her awfully and I can’t forget that.

I always think how weird the sex must have been. I assume that it didn’t happen very often, perhaps only the twice that conceived the princes, but imagine how awkward and sad and weird it must have been for her. Poor cow.

PineMartenPeanutbutter · 12/05/2022 21:27

It’s a whole other world…

You seem a tad over-invested.
Most of the old guff you're copying and pasting was presumed to be bollocks years ago when it was first printed.
Are you going to copy over the one about his valet holding the sample bottle for him to piss in as well?

Because his staff were never quite sure whether the egg would be precisely to the satisfactory hardness, a series of eggs was cooked, and laid out in an ascending row of numbers

I saw that scene in a Poirot film. Wonder whether the film-makers nicked it from Paxman or vice-versa.

Resilience9to5 · 12/05/2022 21:49

Well, I'm Irish so feel cheeky giving an opinion but I don't get why everybody dislikes him so much. Even if you're anti-monarchy, he does genuinely care about the environment and sustainable farming methods and it's not just switched on to be current. He treated Diana badly but it was all 30 odd years ago now.

I like him too

ObjectionHearsay · 12/05/2022 22:06

I like him. Wasn't too sure about him before I met him, but then I did and spent a event with him.

He's actually quite funny, and he does seem to have this rather gentle tone to him and you get that vibe from him. That he's a bit of a gentle soul.

He's not perfect, but who is.

But yes, having met him personally, I did enjoy his company.
