Harry and Meghan 'are invited to appear on Buckingham Palace balcony at Queen's Platinum Jubilee'

No source cited, so could just be made up news.

How do you all feel about this? Is it another refusing-to-fly-the-flag-at-half-mast-for-Diana misreading of the public mood? Does anybody actually care? And, if not, what does that signify?

@lameasahorse

I really don’t know what to say if you can’t see anything wrong with a member of the RF openly touts for favours ( yes I am including A.) . Also remember that H and M snubbed a Royal Marines memorial event to rub shoulders with celebs.

Are there other public jubilee celebration events which H&M can attend with the rest of the RF?

Or is the balcony the only public opportunity?

Well, I'm picturing Omid refreshing his browser screen for a millionth time before actioning the sending of their statement some minutes later. I don't see the HMQ "collaborating" with the person who entered and exited her family within something like a five minute period but I can see why that same person would want to generate drama and intrigue wherever she could get in on the oxygen supply.

notanotheroneagain · 06/05/2022 18:40

Actually, Huffpost issued the statement at the same time as OS.

It's not the first time we have seen Hollywood-style strategically timed releases. It is all about generating the suspense : "will he/won't she/will they" when it should really be about 'don't hog the limelight/it isn't your achievement/you have made clear that you aren't well wishers/back off just this once"

If the Netflix deal falls, surely they are free to send the programmes somewhere else.

Disney has already used MM before. When did they turn down Harry? I'm aware of him also narrating a wildlife documentary, but I don't think that was for Disney.

As I mentioned upthread, that entirely depends on the terms of their deal with Netflix. The more money they’ve been paid by Netflix to date = the more the likelihood that Netflix owns their output, having paid them and their production team for their work on it. If so, they don’t own it and so can’t shop it around.

@notanotheroneagain

I think there was a content bubble, crazy amounts of money being flung at questionable deals.

There are a lot of steaming players now in the market. A lot of these deals will quietly collapse.

If they turned it down, why are they releasing a message saying they are going?

@lameasahorse Fair point. So is your thinking that they were offered a place on the balcony and they said no, we just want to come to a parade or a garden party? Interesting. I didn't think that was their style but you could be right.

tigger2022 · 06/05/2022 19:08

I feel bad for the Queen because she seems quite unwell and all the speculation is about whether her son is going to embarrass her or whether her grandson and his wife are going to say anything horrible, not about her celebration

But why do we need to know?

None of the queen's other grandchildren felt the need to tell the world whether or not they'd be attending.

Anyone can 'go to the Jubilee'. If they're not there in an official capacity, why the need to 'announce' it a month in advance? And at 7 in the morning, their time?

On what grounds would they turn down a balcony appearance?

Are you saying that the decision to exclude non working royals was made on the basis of the CHIMPO and his wife's 'choice' not to be on the balcony?

tigger2022 · 06/05/2022 19:11

I think the rf HAVE to announce it though otherwise H&M will turn it into another example of how they're so persecuted

I’m starting to think H&M we’re about to issue a statement and BP beat them to it, if The Sussexs said they were coming first it would be difficult to issue the statement about only working Royal on balcony rule, and it would be interpreted as a snub because well for obvious reasons.

Because Supernonce might get wheeled out at the last minute?

The allegations around Andrew have been publicly known for a decade, but it never bothered them before. He was even a guest at their wedding.
