Prince Harry not attending Philips memorial

It has been confirmed that Prince Harry will not be attending P Philips memorial service. What are people’s thoughts about this? Is the whole security issue a smoke screen for the fact he can’t face his family?

Yes I thought Beatrice looked upset too.

lollipoprainbow · 29/03/2022 12:42

@AnastasiaRomanov at one point she covered her face with her order of service and was openly crying. Her husband and Eugenie looked concerned for her.

AnastasiaRomanov · 29/03/2022 12:45

I didn’t see that. Poor Beatrice.

@Chilledchablis1

There was a funny comment on Twitter about the real award ceremony being 3 days beforehand with just H, M and the winners . Last night’s spectacle was for the world !

Duke of York will, I expect, only appear at certain family church and formal ceremonies - such as births, marriages, deaths and jubilees. And he'll be slipping in and out quietly, not on the main parades (like Sandringham Christmas)

Terrible decision for HMQ the be escorted by Andrew today. How that man has so little shame I do not know.

I felt sorry for Prince George too. He looks a lot less comfortable with these public occasions than Princess Charlotte.

SquirmOfEels · 29/03/2022 13:06

@Thethreecs

Harry should have swallowed his pride and went. It was his grandfather.

Did I hear the sky news reporter right, one in pink coat, did she say the children should be in school?

She did. But she's wrong

Thomas group of schools broke up lunchtime last Friday

@SoyMarina

AnastasiaRomanov I bet he is watching and full of regreat and sooner or later he is going to start blaming Meghan for all this!
I think you're right.
Gilmorehill · 29/03/2022 13:42

Obviously Andrew is a despicable man but it is his father. Going with the Queen allowed him to slip in the side. I couldn’t even spot where he was sitting in the church.

Febrier · 29/03/2022 13:45

I’d suggest that if he wanted to be discreet, escorting the Queen was not the way to go about it.
I thought it was a statement and I’d love to know what the royals other than HMQ think about him.

I loved the way his face lit up when talking to the Dean I think it was. When they had just arrived. He looks a sensitive shy little boy.
lollipoprainbow · 29/03/2022 13:56

Love Prince George his little face !!

themessygarden · 29/03/2022 17:25

Of all the events to miss, just to try to prove a point Shock.

AnastasiaRomanov · 29/03/2022 17:45

It will be interesting to see if they both attend the Queens funeral and Charles’ coronation. Because it will happen in the next few years.

Chilledchablis1 · 29/03/2022 17:48

@ themessygarden

I agree . It can’t have been about security given the number of Royals present.
I do think H will regret this decision in time and it certainly won’t help to mend bridges .

AnastasiaRomanov · 29/03/2022 18:49

He’s got his tell all book coming out soon. He probably can’t face them all.

tigger2022 · 29/03/2022 19:17

I’ll be honest, HM doesn’t make a lot of mistakes but allowing Prince Andrew to escort her was one. I get why he was there, but not playing such an important role. Apparently William/Charles were not happy about it either.

And I think Prince Harry was foolish for using security as an excuse: it was the most secure place in London!

AnastasiaRomanov · 29/03/2022 19:20

If he hadn’t done that he would have had to slink in at the back or not attend. It was a way of including him without drawing attention before the service .He is her son and the only one without a partner.

Chilledchablis1 · 29/03/2022 19:26

HM needed someone to accompany her . Her other children and grandchildren arrived with spouses and/ or children . They were all greeted by dignitaries . Does anyone actually think that Andrew should have arrived with his daughters and go through that before walking down the aisle with people bowing ?
By arriving at a side entrance he supported his mother but wasn’t accorded the same status as his siblings .
I think it was a good compromise. No matter that 99% of us think Andrew is an arrogant, pompous , entitled disgrace , he is still the son of HM .

AnastasiaRomanov · 30/03/2022 22:26

Apropos of nothing, I have just read something which suggests M and H deliberately created the rumour about them presenting an award at the Oscars to generate attention and publicity. Not saying it’s true, but food for thought.

Maybe they employed Will Smith to create a diversion.

I’m quite sure that will be true. They were using a PR agency (Sunshine Sachs) for the last couple of years to seed stories to keep them constantly in the press, and while they have very much reduced that in the last few months (it must have been costing them an absolute fortune!) stories like this have the stamp of a PR agency all over them.

I read - although can’t remember where - that Meghan and the DC are travelling to The Hague with Harry.

If they had been there can you imagine the tantrums at being upstaged by Will Smith?!

If that's true, they clearly aren't THAT worried about security.

Didn’t Sunshine Sachs represent the body behind the Golden Globes until recently? And I’m pretty sure they (SS) are included in the or for the Oscars 🤔
