It has been confirmed that Prince Harry will not be attending P Philips memorial service. What are people’s thoughts about this? Is the whole security issue a smoke screen for the fact he can’t face his family?

Both of them have parents who have divorced. Meghan has already been divorced. Statistically their chances of divorce are higher than the usual one in two.

Roussette · 21/03/2022 12:53

And that's a statistic you're very keen to come true no doubt "Viv". Let's hope not. I don't wish divorce on "anyone* royal or not

"Janiie* oh how I've missed those happy supportive posts from you!

"Tigger" every single pic Ive seen them in, they've looked happy. no doubt you'll be digging out the one out there where they've been caught not smiling Grin

SueSaid · 21/03/2022 13:02

'Their actions (suing everybody, desperately seeking enemies, responding to everything through lawyers, scowling in every photograph, isolating themselves, nurturing persecution complexes, oversharing, violating friends' and family's right to privacy) are not the actions of people who are in a happy'

Indeed.

Living his best life would surely be moving on and not forever microanalysing every perceived slight and varying recollections.

Granted, he's been relatively quiet of late of that we should be thankful but you just know this awful book

tigger2022 · 21/03/2022 13:21

@JaniieJones definitely… it’s not healthy behaviour. It’s worrying because they lecture a lot on mental health while also promoting very mentally unhealthy behaviour! People might start copying them because they think that’s the kind of thing that helps, and it obviously doesn’t.

Their actions (suing everybody, desperately seeking enemies, responding to everything through lawyers, scowling in every photograph, isolating themselves, nurturing persecution complexes, oversharing, violating friends' and family's right to privacy) are not the actions of people who are in a happy and healthy relationship
Well said.

I feel a bit sorry for them, Harry had created anther Ivory tower and is probably more isolated as no one will really understand the upbringing or royal life. He will probably be surrounded by sycophantics who will not speak any truth

NellGwynne · 21/03/2022 20:43

I don’t feel sorry for them at all. Harry is now surrounded by celeb types and those who want to use him to get publicity for themselves. He’s ‘rent a Royal’. As for Meghan, she will never set foot in Britain again . I feel that’s what all this security stuff is about. It’s an excuse so she doesn’t have to go to another family event ever again.

CathyorClaire · 21/03/2022 20:49

It's hard to feel sorry for anyone with a conservatively estimated £36m in the bank.

I think people problems are their own, it's not an instant fix to buy mental health, wealth doesn't necessarily mean happiness and fulfilment.
CathyorClaire · 21/03/2022 21:00

wealth doesn't necessarily mean happiness and fulfilment

And yet multiplying it exponentially seemingly figures massively in Harry's plans.

Roussette · 21/03/2022 21:08

I don't feel the slightest bit sorry for them, look what they've got now...freedom, and no gilded cage that is dwindling slowly but surely. Best thing they ever did.

CathyorClaire · 21/03/2022 21:32

Hi, Roussette Smile

You and I agree on a lot about the royals generally but I have to ask:

How is an increasingly irrelevant (hugely accelerated by Covid) pair of what are now effectively minor slebs going to hold the world stage ransom indefinitely?

No major deals since I can't remember when and no effective output to fulfill them since longer.

Roussette · 21/03/2022 21:42

Hi Cathy!

I'm not sure how they're holding the world stage ransom...except APress and their clickbait maybe, which is dwindling?
They're just getting on with their lives in the US whilst holding AP to account when they publish lies, well done them, someone needs to! AP push their relevance for those clicks!

What they do as far as 'major deals' is their business, I don't care, I don't pay for them so not my concern! Smile

Apparently M is working on content for podcasts to be released in the summer so we’re told! What that content will be , we will see!
EdithWeston · 21/03/2022 23:11

They were very unlucky in timing, with covid

I'm still not remotely clear what Archewell actually does aside from a few grants to other charities.

A lot it the podcast/Netflix stuff seems to be stuck in an endless cycle of 'jam tomorrow'.

It'll probably all seem different when something actually happens

But Harry would like us all to pay for his security over here, wouldn’t he? He knows full well that RPO can’t be hired so his offer to pay was meaningless. The court case vs the Home Office will cost taxpayer money etc. so do you care about that?
Roussette · 22/03/2022 04:49

Care? I care about aot more things going on at the moment actually but if you want an answer..let him pay

And before we get into an endless cycle of no he can't, yes he can, whole threads have been done on it which indicate to me, yes he can.
It would be for a few days very occasionally, so what. Personally I think he should have it

Millions are being spent on a private jet and entourage in the Caribbean at the moment. A few days sometime in the future seems paltry to me

SallyLockheart · 22/03/2022 05:40

Principles for hire then, Rousette? The thing is, per your argument, repeatedly, the fact he doesn’t cost the UK taxpayer ANTHING has to be be this huge thing to be applauded so if he costs us ANYTHING including the court costs et etc then your argument no longer stands. A few days is paltry - but that isn’t NOTHING is it. Where does it stop?

The whataboutery re the royal tour is absolute rubbish and you know it. It’s called a job. You don’t agree with it but nevertheless it comes with the function of the RF. if Harry is allowed his security because he is so under threat we can hardly have W&K travelling commercial and hitchhiking around can we?

SallyLockheart · 22/03/2022 05:53

And given what the Home Office is facing on many fronts to do with all on going humanitarian disasters - Ukraine and Afghanistan- albeit handling it badly - the last thing they need is a petulant ex royal firing off lawsuits because HE doesn’t feel safe. Safe? People such as Ukrainian refugees are the ones who have the right to say they weren’t safe - and no option to hire own security there.

Tezza1 · 22/03/2022 06:31

@SallyLockheart " we can hardly have W&K travelling commercial and hitchhiking around can we?"

I'm sorry but for some reason that made me burst out laughing. I can actually see Kate hitchhiking, and sitting on the back of a truck, and then, hopping off the truck, still looking immaculate, with perfect make up and not a hair out of place. But a beaming smile.

EdithWeston · 22/03/2022 06:40

which indicate to me, yes he can.

You missed the bit in court where government lawyers said definitively in court that he can't (pay for close protection - simply not possible)

That the JR - if it takes places, has leave been granted? - will cost money doesn't bother me. It is an important part of holding the government to account for its actions. In this case whether the Home Office committee RAVEC is fit for purpose.

SallyLockheart · 22/03/2022 06:40

@tezza1. Grintrue. In films where the female lead effortlessly hitches a lift they are always look casually glamorous and relaxed. I’ve done a bit of budget travelling abroad - albeit not hitchhiking - and just been dishevelled and grubby!
