Prince Harry not attending Philips memorial

It has been confirmed that Prince Harry will not be attending P Philips memorial service. What are people’s thoughts about this? Is the whole security issue a smoke screen for the fact he can’t face his family?

@Roussette

AncientGran She wrote a book running down the institution
I thought she wrote children's books.

Was it about the institution or the family? I think there is a bit of a difference criticising your grandparents parenting skills when they are in their 90s and the appear to have been loving grandparents when you needed them.

If she was nasty about people in the family as Harry has been then I agree she should have lost her titles.

ancientgran · 15/03/2022 18:42

@Comefromaway

Why is there a memorial service? Is it because covid prevented people attending the funeral?

Harry DID attend the funeral. It’s a non issue.

It was a very small funeral because of covid so I suppose this is a chance for people to pay their respects and acknowledge the positive things he did. I think the DofE scheme in particular is something that is very worthwhile.

It is a service of thanksgiving for his life and is a chance for those friends and charities who were not able to attend the funeral due to covid to pay their respects. It is by invitation only and senior members of the Royal Family are expected to attend. Interestingly, it is not now certain the Queen herself will attend as her mobility issues mean a wheelchair would be useful, but she refuses to use one which is a shame.

@Chilledchablis1

Once more I see the word hate creeping in ! Being critical of someone doesn’t equate to hating them .
If you criticise someone you're a troll these days. Doesn't matter that the person that you're criticising has said negative things about other people.

His family are the easiest way to make money so I'm not surprised that he will do that and I agree that his contradictions lies are what keep him in the tabloids. Whether or not they are deliberate is debatable but undoubtedly newspapers had articles ready to go for both decisions anyway as he is clickbait gold and the media can start the inevitable will he or won't he attend the Jubilee circus. (I think he won't personally)

CathyorClaire · 15/03/2022 20:52

I don't think she said she wanted out did she? She hasn't run them RF down either

SF would be insane to want an out or run the RF down even though when her ex FIL was alive she'd have had excellent cause to do either or both.

She's more than happy sticking up for her honourable meal ticket who gives her the run of palaces, lavish lodges, ski chalets and a general lifestyle she'd long ago have forfeited had she been less savvy.

Fergie looks out for number one...

CathyorClaire · 15/03/2022 21:12

And back to Harry.

I've been musing on Travalyst which seems to have gone very quiet.

Anyone know what the £300k+ Creditors: Accruals and Deferred Income figure relates to?

Just asking bearing in mind Covid scuppering global travel for the last couple of years and the all- above-board substantial figure transferred there when the Royal Foundation was dissolved.

Roussette · 15/03/2022 22:13

AncientGran I've only read passages of SFs book and it was pretty damning about the whole institution, the men in grey suits, the whole set up.
Of course she's gone quiet on that since she ran out of money and lives on a massive Royal estate funded by the British taxpayer.
Agree cathyorclaire she knows which side her bread's buttered

EdithWeston · 15/03/2022 22:35

Yes, the start of a global pandemic is a spectacularly bad time to be launching a new, leisure travel based initiative. He was very unlucky on that one. Has it gone bust completely, or might a relaunch be possible say later this year?

TheRealBoswell · 16/03/2022 06:24

@cherryonthecakes Fab name by the way. That’s the thing, as you said he’s “clickbait gold”. If people just stopped clicking and reading those stories, would the tabloids continue to print as many of those stories? Eventually they’ll move on to another subject, with polarizing views, that riles people up or stokes some kind of controversy.

Besides, I thought the whole point is to make people click and share and comment all sorts of things?

Or perhaps if she doesn’t attend, some people may stop speculating about why Harry didn’t attend as well?

They could easily have Harry or the queen say a few a words via video, even if it’s pre-recorded, if she is having mobility issues or he is facing some kind of difficulty with traveling without his family.

Roussette · 16/03/2022 06:50

Harry would be absolutely slaughtered for saying a few words by video at his GF's memorial.
No one can deny that.
Imagine the threads on here or the DM headlines

Totally off topic, the first time my Mum agreed to use a wheelchair was so that she wouldn't miss DS's graduation. At times, needs must. Must be very tough for HM though - hope they find a way round it for her.

Couldn’t agree more. DH has MS and many of his friends at his therapy centre refuse to use wheelchairs even though they have become very slow and unsafe when walking. DH was sensible enough to realise that it was far better to use a chair and be able to move at the same speed as everyone around him and not be in danger of falling over. I think it would be a shame if the Queen could not do the same and also it might help some people who are reluctant to use a chair realise that it is ok and sometimes the wisest cours of action. I’m sure they cousin pump it and make it look like a State vehicle of some sort 🤣🤣. Anyway, end of de-rail.

WinnieTheW0rm · 16/03/2022 09:06

Pimp her ride - excellent idea!

tigger2022 · 16/03/2022 09:53

They should pimp it to be pulled by horses, she'd love that!! 🤣

It's still going and made a tiny profit of some £11500 according to the accounts but there's no clarity on the origins of the income or the destination of the outgoings.

Usual royal smoke and mirrors.

Except it's not the Usual royal smoke and mirrors is it? It's their smoke and mirrors.

Prince Harry not attending Philips memorial
Chilledchablis1 · 18/03/2022 16:19

I thought there were no tabloids in the US ??

DesertStorms · 18/03/2022 16:33

Well the law suit will be starting soon..

@Alwayscheerful

I mean it would be very ironic and it's probably also inevitable (they both seem pretty miserable most of the time) but I think that particular report is fake!

When it actually happens my prediction is it will begin with one of those generic fluffy statements about "consciously uncoupling" before descending into public arguments about finance and childcare, allegations and counter-allegations of bullying, and self-declarations of martyrdom, that's their usual MO 😂

CathyorClaire · 18/03/2022 20:43

@DesertStorms

Yes.

Hope the mag has deep pockets if that story's not watertight Shock

Gilmorehill · 19/03/2022 09:00

It will be interesting if they don’t sue National Enquirer.

DesertStorms · 19/03/2022 09:05

Yes I think that will be very telling

upinaballoon · 19/03/2022 12:45

If a headline says that it's over it might just be that their association with one particular business partner is over. Our magazines make the same silly headlines so that we'll buy them.
In January 2020, Harry had been over to the UK and gone back and then the split from the RF was news, at that time with a review in a year, if I remember correctly. I just happened to be in a tearoom and I couldn't help over-hearing two ladies on a table nearby. (You can't help overhearing if people speak loudly.) One said, "What do you think about Meghan and Harry, then?" The other one said, "It won't last." I don't know whether she meant that she thought that the marriage wouldn't last or that the split with the RF wouldn't last but I have not forgotten her words.
