Prince Harry not attending Philips memorial

It has been confirmed that Prince Harry will not be attending P Philips memorial service. What are people’s thoughts about this? Is the whole security issue a smoke screen for the fact he can’t face his family?

Harry asked for a half in, half out. He was denied it. Why a special case for him is beyond me.

It's not Harry who is using connections, it's everyone else who seem to be using their royal connections to gain.

We also have people writing books and articles about him and his family making money , yet he must not write about himself.

Do you think he actually ever really wanted out? It would have been simple to do. Look at Princess Mako. Married her boyfriend in a simple ceremony, bowed out gracefully and moved to NY. As you say, I think he enjoys (and feels entitled to) the priviliges of being royalty too much to have really walked away.
I think he wanted all the glamorous appearances like BAFTA with celebrities rather than turning up opening something in a small town with ordinary people.

Roussette · 15/03/2022 13:48

@TheRealBoswell

Great posts from you. Totally agree

Just let them get on with it folks, and stop getting in such a tizz about it.
You don't pay for them so let them go!

There are lots of celebs who irritate me beyond comprehension, they have no space in my head whatsoever. I just ignore them! I swerve threads on them, any SM about them etc
Posters talk about Meghan leaving countries because she has to, like she's El Chapo or something!

Personally, I think they're a great loss to the RF who now look petty (Harry/Andrew/titles etc). But that's up to them how they handle that. Whilst Queen is alive, it'll be ok. After, not so sure

cherryonthecakes · 15/03/2022 13:59

Keeping the titles and using his family to make money in memoirs means that he's not really out. Had he done a Princess Mako then I think that more people would agree that the he should be left alone but it would limit his earning potential.

Roussette · 15/03/2022 14:02

Yeah like SF kept hers for 20 years and made money from it. And stu does with a mills and boon this year

Why should H&M be vilified

Roussette · 15/03/2022 14:02

*still does

Fergie is an embarrassing gold digger who should have lost the title long ago and it is embarrassing that Andrew still has his.

Doesn't mean that Harry's use of a title is questionable for someone who wants to be "just Harry."

Snog · 15/03/2022 14:20

"Just Harry"
HmmHmmHmm

Yeahthat · 15/03/2022 15:14

@Roussette

No one's stopping them. In fact, I wish they'd "get on with it" to the extent that I don't ever read about their ridiculous antics ever again. However as long as they continue to eg sue the government, demand apologies any time somone says something they don't like, set up tv interviews syndicated internationally where they can whine about their family etc, then they'll get attention and criticism. Although it must be said that attention in general doesn't seem to bother them - they actively cultivate it. They just can't handle when it's not positive.

Yeahthat · 15/03/2022 15:19
@Yeahthat But it’s a blurry line isn’t it? Perhaps he is courting publicity, who knows? After all, he needs to pay for his lifestyle in some way or another. I do not condone his actions, nor do I follow them quite closely.

But surely he cannot lead a completely private life because, just as how an ordinary person will miss family events when living abroad, he too will miss some too? Wouldn’t that be expected of a private individual? Maybe, the expectations people have him are different because his naysayers assume he has the wherewithal to travel anywhere, and by not doing so, it’s some kind of snub? And perhaps this is seen as a personal slight? Maybe, if the royal family continues, once George and his siblings grow older and the royal family gets more streamlined, what Harry does and doesn’t do, won’t matter so much.

They could fade into obscurity, but clearly they want to fulfill some kind of public role or another. I think he should be treated just like any celebrity and just let them get on with whatever they’re doing, with no expectations at all.
I certainly wouldn't criticise him for not turning up. I see it as a good thing because he'd turn it in to a woke circus with some sort of bleating word salad about his intergenerational trauma or otherwise if he did come.
They more or less are treated as just another pair of celebrities - he's criticised for behaving like a spoilt prat. Anyone in that position would be. I think the course of action he took - the OW interview etc - was virtually the only way he could have ended up in the position he is now of being such a polarising figure.

@Why2why

These Harry and Meghan bashing obsession by the British is just ludicrous, comical, boring and just batshit crazy.

I can’t waste my time on this puerile nonsense.

So why do you keep posting?

Don't read about it then? Just a thought

I don't with slebs that annoy me. It's a good move.
Try it. It's very freeing

@Roussette

You seem to think we're already living in the Black Mirror episode where you can just physically censor people that you find irritating or don't want to see out of your life.

Roussette · 15/03/2022 16:29

Don't know that episode

I just know it's peaceful and empowering to give famous people who greatly irritate you NO headspace

Yeahthat · 15/03/2022 17:41

@Roussette

It doesn't "disturb my peace" or occupy significant headspace to give my opinion about two people who irritate me (and would irritate me whether I chose to express it or not) on an online forum.

From your apparent desperation to shut the conversation down with faux-concern about the "headspace" of others, it does seem to bother you however.

I don't think she said she wanted out did she? She hasn't run them RF down either so not quite the same as Harry. Not a fan but fairs fair.

Roussette · 15/03/2022 17:55

Parker...but I don't hate you or any posters on here like some do with H&M!

ancientgran · 15/03/2022 17:55
@ancientgran the Queen did do a Nazi salute as a child. There is photographic evidence. Encouraged to apparently by her Nazi supporting Uncle.
Obviously this does not mean she supports this as an adult. But there were real security worries about her Nazi Uncle and even rumours that he leaked allied troop positions to the Nazis.
She was a child and he was the only nazi supporter in the RF. She might have thought he was deranged for all you know but he was her uncle and senior to her father in the family. Doesn't mean she supported the nazis. John Cleese did some nazi salutes, do you think that makes him a nazi supporter?

There weren't any worries about her during the war and as I said fortunately her uncle abdicated and left his brother to deal with the aftermath.

Roussette · 15/03/2022 17:57

She wrote a book running down the institution

I think that's for the best. You do seem extremely heightened around these discussions. Those adrenaline surges can't be good for anyone!
Chilledchablis1 · 15/03/2022 18:29

Once more I see the word hate creeping in ! Being critical of someone doesn’t equate to hating them .

Comefromaway · 15/03/2022 18:39

Why is there a memorial service? Is it because covid prevented people attending the funeral?

Harry DID attend the funeral. It’s a non issue.
