Prince Harry not attending Philips memorial

FlyingGeeseAgain · 11/03/2022 22:27

It has been confirmed that Prince Harry will not be attending P Philips memorial service. What are people’s thoughts about this? Is the whole security issue a smoke screen for the fact he can’t face his family?

@mummykel16

I'm assuming the PP is American. Seems to have some sort of Trumpian "Our country is the biggliest, not like little England" thing going on.

If not, then I'm equally baffled by the US-fixation as by the preoccupation with England.

sashagabadon · 12/03/2022 21:37

Americans do seem to misunderstand the U.K. and the monarchy and the role it plays in our constitution. They confuse it for celebrity I think, waving at people , opening hospitals etc and of course they do do that but it is also so much more. The Crown rather than the individuals in the monarchy.
US is a young country though whereas U.K. is not, we have hundreds of years of our governance system and we know it works. It’s been challenged over the years of course but survived.

Why2why · 12/03/2022 22:11

@Yeahthat, the Royal Family is only relevant to me in that I think they are a nice tourist attraction. Nothing more. They have a long history of disturbing behaviour, racist and colonial mindset.

But keep telling yourself they are important to people outside of England.

FlyingGeeseAgain · 12/03/2022 22:20
@cherryonthecakes, my main point is about relevance. Politeness with the monarchy is just humouring England into thinking the monarchy matters. I do wonder about the politeness towards the monarchy from many Commonwealth countries. When an Institution shows you it thinks less of you because of your colour, politeness will be through gritted teeth.
All this talk of England. The Monarchy serves Britain,, not just England!!

@Why2why

Ah, one more comment about the RF just to emphasise how much you deeply don't care? Grin

You've literally been told repeatedly that no one cares whether they're relevant outside of England (I think you mean the UK).

I used the examples of Spain and Sweden to try to simplify it for you, but it doesn't seem to be getting through. I'll make one final try: They carry out a limited role in line with the constitution. It's not a TV show, they're not influencers, we're not worried about their "ratings". They're a part of the UK system of government. That's it. I don't need you to care about them, although I'd be in luck if I did.

I think you protest a little too much personally, they're only relevant to you "In that they're a nice tourist attraction" and yet you've launched into a protracted, embittered and mostly nonsensical - "Did you know the US President doesn't even call the Queen before he makes a decision?" (?) - series of posts about them, including your fantasies for their future?

I'm in no way confusing you for the world at large - you seem to be some sort of embittered oddball.

Viviennemary · 12/03/2022 22:39

He has just released a really weird video of himself in a bright orange outfit supposedly to promote those games. Its very odd indeed. Has he completely lost the plot.

Inerve · 12/03/2022 22:47

Curious to know if anyone has ever seen any of them in their palaces or places of Royal interest whilst on a visit to Britain. Ever seen Charles in Highgrove, or Camilla in Ray Mill House, or Edward and Sophie or William and Kate or Anne in the gardens of their country piles waiting to greet the tourists? Andrew is allowed to lock himself away now.

People visit Windsor, Buck House etc. knowing there's no chance of seeing Her Maj walking her corgis, but enjoy the changing of the Guard and other stately occasions which Britain does so well, and would do whether the RF faded out or not. Versailles (and France) hasn't had a monarchy for centuries.

Off with their heads and give us yer castles for Ukrainian refugees. Fat chance. I wish they would all buzz off to America and save us some money and bullshit.

FlyingGeeseAgain · 12/03/2022 23:01

Iv e been to BP when Charles was hosting an event. I’ve also seen the RF at Hollyrood House.
Charles opens Highgrove for tours, but probably when he isn’t there. One of his houses in the Highlands has a self catering section for rental.

You do care about their relevance outside of England. However, I would love for the British media to tell the Commonwealth that Englanders do not care about the Monarchy’s relevance to that. That should be very interesting.

FlyingGeeseAgain · 12/03/2022 23:02

Englanders? You sound very odd.

Spoilt brat he’s made his bed let him lie o it. I feel for the queen though she’s been hurt enough the last few years.

Why2why · 12/03/2022 23:09

My dear, why would a racist institution be of relevance to me? And if you think I’m an oddball, I suggest you stop burying your head and read the mood music. Look around the world. Real history is being taught, self-determination and sovereignty are being taught. The abuse of the past is being taught. Shall vast swathes of the world give relevance to an oppressor and abuser or should they demand reparations? Demand the return of things that were stolen. Demand that their children no longer give relevance to this Once Upon A Time nonsense.

When next the Royal Family stands on the famous balcony, take a long hard look at them and tell me who outside of England are these people of relevance.

FlyingGeeseAgain · 12/03/2022 23:11

Scotland , Ireland and Wales?

That’s alright with me. Better to be an oddball than live under an illusion that the Royal Family are to be cherished. Looking at its history it’s not surprising it’s produced a paedophile whose settlement was paid for by “family money” ie, taxpayers money and stolen wealth or wealth achieved through abuses outside of England.
Why2why · 12/03/2022 23:15

Scotland, Ireland (presumably N Ireland) and Wales? You really think so? Nah, just England.

FlyingGeeseAgain · 12/03/2022 23:17

So you don’t think the RF has any relevance in the rest of Britain but it does in England. Why ?

OP posts:
Yeahthat · 12/03/2022 23:23

You seem to veer between feigning indifference to really embittered rants about them? You sound like a jilted and obsessive ex Grin

By the way, I'm from one of those nations, you buffoon. The Queen is head of state of the UK, not just of England.

Who said that they are to be cherished? I see them as part of our system of government. I don't cherish them any more than I cherish the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Yeahthat · 12/03/2022 23:29

Lol from attempting (badly) to pass for having some level of expertise on the constitution of the UK, to tentatively asking if Northern Ireland is part of it Grin
justasking111 · 12/03/2022 23:48

Not bothered about the memorial service bit. But a private visit unannounced would be a good Idea with queen's age being a factor. A friends jet, whisked off to Windsor, plenty of security there. See family and back to the states. That I think he should do

lockdownhasbrokenme · 13/03/2022 00:05

@cherryonthecakes

He wasn't chased at all, the footage of him leaving the event shows there where a couple of paps by the side of the pavement, that's all...no one got near the car.

It is curious that nobody captured this chase when it was mid- afternoon in London and London has the highest CCTV per capita outside China and plenty of traffic and people with phone cameras.

There was footage of his car driving down a residential street in Kew (the reg of his car is in photos from that day) and it drives along normally too.

If something happened I reckon it's more of the lines of his security telling paps to move further away or something.

Quite agree, as we know from the lies in the Oprah interview and Meghan 'forgetting' to inform the court, they both clearly have no problem with telling fictitious stories this is probably yet another one.
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 13/03/2022 08:07

I assumed the N Ireland? was referring to the fact that you said Ireland, which is generally thought of as the Republic, where they are certainly not relevant!

IcedPurple · 13/03/2022 08:30

@Why2why

And when decisions on the world stage has to be made, the US president wont be calling the Queen or King of England for advice or permission.

However, it’s always nice to take photos with members of the Royal Family. Nice for the mantle piece and tourist bragging rights. Grin

Who is 'the Queen or King of England'?
Chilledchablis1 · 13/03/2022 10:15

@ IcedPurple.

“Who is 'the Queen or King of England'?”
I think @Why2why is making a pathetic attempt to be provocative. Either that ir they are not nearly as smart as they think .
