Reports today that Charles is loaning Andrew £7m towards the settlement which is apparently due for payment in ten days. Said £7m to be taken off whatever HMQ kicks Andrew's way in due course not that we'll ever be told what that is

Has the supposedly imminent chalet sale stalled again?

That’s likely because the Queen will officially leave everything to Charles (or William if Charles pre-deceased him) because of the sovereign-to-sovereign transfer thing. No tax. Leave everything to the next one and they dish out little gifts so they don’t have to pay any IHT…
WinnieTheW0rm · 08/03/2022 17:29

Well, wherever the money came from, it's been paid over and the case is now concluded.

Each side bears their own costs, the actual figure of the settlement has has not been revealed, and he didn't admit any liability.

I wouldn't expect that to be something "outsiders" in the media would have reliable information about, but if it's true the first thing that occurs to me is "What does he expect in return?"

CathyorClaire · 08/03/2022 21:28

Well, wherever the money came from

Ultimately Joe P of course.

"What does he expect in return?"

My guess is Andrew's head on a plate zero public profile in the immediate term to be heavily reviewed on HMQ's sad demise...

Lurking9to5 · 09/03/2022 21:10

Yupp, for 7 million, you disappear as near as you goddamn can.

OverByYer · 10/03/2022 06:39

Loaned £7m which will likely never be repaid.

Lurking9to5 · 10/03/2022 07:57

The queen will leave him money which charles should demand back. Charles will want to mqke sure charlotte and louis are set up when george is obviously fine. Also he has step children and step children and he probably wants to bung them a few quid. No way should he write off Andrews sleaze loan

Lurking9to5 · 10/03/2022 08:00

Altho, i don't care, im not l8ving in the uk 😅
But if charles consults me, thats what ill advise

notanotheroneagain · 29/03/2022 11:49

We get that Andrew had to be at the memorial today, but did he have to be front and centre by riding with the Queen.

They said he would keep a low profile.

I suppose the argument would be that he is supporting his mother both mentally and physically. He lives at Windsor so he would be the logical choice to accompany her to his father’s memorial. I don’t doubt that he is also quite happy at the chance to appear in public again, but hopefully he is not saying anything or doing anything else to draw attention to himself. We shall see.

I am surprised there isn't a separate thread on this tbh! For the Queen to arrive at Westminster Abbey on the arm of Prince Andrew this morning is quite scandalous imho.
I suppose the justification will be that it's a family event; but it's a family event that is also public and broadcast on the BBC!

It got round the need for Andrew to be received by clergy and do all the glad handing.

Exactly . Quite a good compromise in my opinion.

derxa · 29/03/2022 12:17

There's so much more about the attendees at this service. Nicola Sturgeon's husband is there having been invisible for years. The great grand children including Lady Louise who looks absolutely stunning.

Frangiblepins88 · 29/03/2022 12:18

That's a good point Derxa but it also sends out a strong message that the Queen, the head of the RF, has chosen to overlook his misconduct and the lies he told about it on national television. Don't tell me that she couldn't have had a member of the Scots Guards accompany to her seat and Prince Andrew could have slipped in towards the back of the royal party. That would have been more appropriate imho.

derxa · 29/03/2022 12:18

*more interesting

Yes, I commented on this on another thread, but I'm not sure how it gets round him being received by the clergy and gladhanding

Surely if he arrives alongside the Queen he'll be received anyway - though admittedly she'll be the priority

They came in and went out of the side door not the front entrance.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/03/2022 12:25

Don't tell me that she couldn't have had a member of the Scots Guards ...

Or even a lady in waiting
After all if that was suitable for the funeral, why not this service too?

I was shocked to see him take such a prominent role, escorting Betty both in and out of the Abbey.

I thought he'd be keeping a far lower profile than that. Tone deaf imo.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/03/2022 12:30

They came in and went out of the side door not the front entrance

But wasn't that because it would be less far to walk for the Queen?

She'd hardly have gone un-greeted no matter where she arrived and that means Andrew too, though admittedly it may have been a lower key affair at the side entrance

derxa · 29/03/2022 12:33

When you're a widow of 95 years old attending the memorial service of your husband of over 70 years then you can dictate what the Queen did today. This will be Andrew's last high profile public event except for his mother's funeral.
WinnieTheW0rm · 29/03/2022 12:33

Her arrival by car was private (not on camera on arrival -might have been spotted en route)

Neither she nor the Duke of York went in through the main televised entrance.

She didn't process - just came in through the side entrance along shortest available aisle.

But yes she chose him tomwalk with her and we don't know why. One strand will be that he remains a much loved member of the family (to nick a phrase from another context)

smilesy · 29/03/2022 12:39

I haven’t watched the coverage yet but the Queen appears to have just taken her seat with no public greeting by the clergy. As to whether she could have been supported by a lady in waiting, I doubt it as they are all fairly elderly and, speaking from experience, it is actually quite physical hard to suppose someone who has mobility difficulties. Also, I don’t think it would be appropriate for a member of the armed forces to be seen to manhandle the Queen as it where! Much as I would rather Andrew disappear from view entirely, he obviously has the right to be at the memorial and I think they have reached a reasonable compromise given that the Queen needs assistance.
