Prince Charles environmentalist flew to Scotland

Camilla and Charles flew by private jet to Scotland for New Year. This was a private trip. Why couldn't they get the train?
So much for him supposedly being an environmentalist.

What a hypocrit he is

BitOutOfPractice · 03/01/2022 13:56
@BitOutOfPractice more likely to be the Queen. She seems to have always used the Royal Train to travel. She has only used helicopters in the last year. She may not be physically able to get on the train anym ore without a wheelchair?
Not it was Prince Charles. He was on his way back from a day in the city I was travelling to. Ironically to celebrate that city’s public transport system. Confused

Grin You couldn't make it up.

Ah i thought we were finally getting the names of those ethically perfect environmentalists! Disappointed.

RoyalFamilyFan · 03/01/2022 16:16

@Pumperthepumper I know the game you are playing.
You can't dare criticise someone as a hypocrite unless you can find someone absolutely perfect.
I don't expect Charles to be perfect. But he doesn't even try.

It's the wine and cheese car that gets on my tits. It's an old Aston Martin, he will probably drive it once a year if that. Meanwhile it will have to be maintained at huge cost for the one time he does want to drive it. He probably got it converted as a fun experiment to keep him amused. So whenever he mentions it, I zone out, or I'll get very cross indeed.

What game? Are you specifically slagging only prince Charles off? In which case, why pick this aspect?

Everyone who cares about the environment is a hypocrite. Even you. It’s a boring, lazy argument. But if you want to have a conversation about how useless the monarch are generally, I’m listening.

LaChanticleer · 03/01/2022 16:31

Because Charles like the rest of his family is a hypocritical selfish unintelligent elitist

Yup @Tania64 Charles Windsor is next in line to be head of the Church of England, yet is an acknowledged adulterer, who thinks it's his right to tell others what to do, and how to live their lives.

I'll always remember his private response (subsequently revealed by some dogged journalists) to the case of one of his private administrative staff, a black woman, claiming discrimination in his office had impeded his progress. His response was along the lines of "How dare these people ...?"

HermioneWeasley · 03/01/2022 16:37

He’s an appalling hypocrite on this issue. So are Harry and Megan. Living in a mansion, or multiple mansions and castles, is going to have a bigger carbon footprint than me with my 3 bed semi no matter how many kids I have or what (single) car I drive.

He has a fucking fleet of cars and a private train as well as a private jet, don’t they have a yatch as well?

Why on Earth should I listen to any of them on this topic while they do exactly what they please?

Because we need to look after the planet.

Are you seriously suggesting we shouldn’t bother because prince charles drives and flies?

I don't think I have ever seen that about Charles response.

They don't have a private yacht any more, though it's said Charles is lobbying for a new one, and the Queen's Flight was merged into the RAF more generally back in 1995

Obviously they can always make an aircraft available, but as with the yachts Charles seems to enjoy borrowing those of his billionaire friends

RoyalFamilyFan · 03/01/2022 17:24

I thought the Royal Yacht was in the process of being built? Boris Johnson approved the massive expenditure.

LaChanticleer · 03/01/2022 17:27

It was back in the 1980s @RoyalFamilyFan - possibly before you were born, or old enough to read?

RoyalFamilyFan · 03/01/2022 17:30

@LaChanticleer I was working in the eighties.

OP posts:
Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/01/2022 17:34

Oh god you're right, RoyalFamilyFan - I see Boris okayed it in May and tendering for the contract started in July Angry

I'd obviously missed that one, but not to worry; doubtless we'll be told just how wonderful it'll be for the whole nation Hmm

RoyalFamilyFan · 03/01/2022 17:37

Yes. Apparently the Royal Yacht will be used as a trade envoy. Exactly what we were told about the last yacht that Philip used for partying with friends.
But we don't have enough money to improve schools or hospitals though.

OP posts:
Roussette · 03/01/2022 18:02

Well... the last 'trade envoy' we had was Andrew. So... less said about that the better.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/01/2022 19:03

You beat me to it, Roussette Wink

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/01/2022 20:30

whachatalkinaboutwillis

Like Harry, William, Bono, Leonardo Dicaprio and every other billionaire environmentalist, he is more important and special than everyone else so he gets to break the 'rules' and still preach like a self righteous twat.“

Yep. David Attenborough, too.

Appreciate I may well be banned for saying that.

His footprint, since the mid-fifties, is enormous.

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/01/2022 20:33

(Human driven climate change was first suspected - albeit by people who were then labelled as nutters - in the late 19th Century.
Sir David would have been well aware of those views)

elelel · 03/01/2022 20:44

It defo was PC he was there for the Metro thingy. DD has a video of him getting off his train at the station.

The queen hasn't stopped using trains in the last year because she might need a wheelchair. They are accessible easily by aid of a ramp. She has used aircraft on plenty of occasions over the years.

crackofdoom · 03/01/2022 20:46

derxa well, rewilding- in theory- is returning land to its natural, pristine, pre human state. In practice, this is technically impossible, because before people were around the landscape in these latitudes looked a certain way because you had things like aurochs and woolly rhinoceroses wandering around tearing the uninterrupted vegetation up and creating glades, and wolves and bears etc preying on them so they didn’t breed out of control.

So there are several degrees of contemporary rewilding, but it usually means letting vegetation grow, minimal human intervention, often with large herbivores (ponies/ cows/ pigs) wandering around in the place of woolly rhinos.

Rather than burning moorland annually to provide a nice environment for grouse and a shit one for every other sodding thing, as Prince Charles does with at least some of his moorland in the North/ Scotland….🙄

RoyalFamilyFan · 04/01/2022 21:56

Chris Packham has been lobbying the Royal Family for a while to rewild their lands.
Burning moorland annually to create an environment for grouse hunting is terrible for the environment. And more UK land is devoted to grouse moors than to houses.
