Prince Charles environmentalist flew to Scotland

Camilla and Charles flew by private jet to Scotland for New Year. This was a private trip. Why couldn't they get the train?
So much for him supposedly being an environmentalist.

@MrsSkylerWhite

Apparently his Aston Martin runs on “excess” English wine (no such thing as excess wine here Grin).

Maybe his plane runs on “excess” whiskey.

Leading by example with sensible steps we can all follow. Hmm

@thehillswerebright

To be fair if they are going to balmoral it's not like it's just over the border. I think some people think that scotland is a teeny tiny country sometimes. Realistically it would take me 3 hours driving to get to balmoral from my house which is in between Glasgow and Edinburgh. There isn't just a handy train to jump on. Also there is major railway works being done in scotland this past week.
Some people on here think 'Scotland' is just one location Getting a train from London to Edinburgh is much easier than travelling from London to Balmoral or the north of Scotland.

Quite

@thehillswerebright I have driven to Balmoral from England, I know how long it takes. And I don't have the option of a chauffeur and had kids with me. And they could have taken a train if they preferred. This is how I would have got there if I was them. More environmentally friendly, but hardly a hardship. I would have timed it over lunchtime and had a long relaxed lunch, with either a post-lunch nap or simply looking at the amazing scenery as you travel through Scotland.

Actually, the sensible way is a train most of the way, then car.

Like Harry, William, Bono, Leonardo Dicaprio and every other billionaire environmentalist, he is more important and special than everyone else so he gets to break the 'rules' and still preach like a self righteous twat.

Is the face because I actually know this journey by car and so know what I am talking about. And also know how it could be made more pleasant?

Balmoral isn't a town. It's an estate. Why were you there?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/01/2022 11:41

Apparently his Aston Martin runs on “excess” English wine

He gets a lot of mileage out of that one (the claim, not the car Wink) and it's trotted out every time anyone dares to question his choices

Such a shame that claims are all he's got these days, and even they fall apart at the briefest enquiry

MaryAndHerNet · 03/01/2022 11:44

Why concern yourself.woth the impact and hypocrisy of 1 person from 1 family?

Concerns yourself with the impact and hypocrisy of the 1000s of members from 1000s of families using this site right now that will happily tell you they do 3 loads of washing, 6 days a week.

Your worrying about a teacup in an ocean.

RoyalFamilyFan · 03/01/2022 11:44

@derxa we were staying in a rented holiday house near Balmoral Castle.
Oh how silly of me to not realise that Balmoral is the whole estate. Except I am sure Charles and Camilla were staying in the castle or in a house in the castle grounds, not camping out in a tent in a remote field in the estate.

Have you seen the article I shared about private jets? The kind of people using private jets is supposed to be responsible for about 50% of private individual emissions. Using the washing machine too much really doesn't compare. I wouldn't even care so much if Charles did not pose as an environmentalist and spoke at Cop 26. It is the hypocrisy that burns me.

Water, powder, liquid, manufacturing, electricity... Mass population consumption is the bigger issue, ties in to mass animal farming needed to feed that mass population.

I wouldn't even care so much if Charles did not pose as an environmentalist and spoke at Cop 26. It is the hypocrisy that burns me.
So Greta Thunberg should really burn you then? More so than Charles. Her entourages, her cars, her staffing levels..

Pumperthepumper · 03/01/2022 11:55

The hypocrisy argument is really, really boring. Do you recycle?

Your trip to your holiday cottage from 'England' doesn't require a security detail. I'm driving back from Herts to the Scottish Borders tomorrow. It should take 6 hours but has taken me a lot longer. There is no way I would drive to Ballater from Herts in a oner. As for the train. Spare me Add in all the covid precautions. I can see why they took a plane. I'm glad he went and I hope he had a good time
RoyalFamilyFan · 03/01/2022 11:57

Yawn at hypocrisy.
Of course, I bloody recycle. Virtually everyone does.
But I don't claim I am an environmentalist and pose as one by speaking at international events while taking a private jet for short-haul journeys.
I don't even take a commercial flight between England and Scotland because it is environmentally so bad.

OP posts:
Mysterian · 03/01/2022 11:57

I hope that nobody complaining about his hypocrisy has pets or children or new non-electric cars.

thehillswerebright · 03/01/2022 11:58

Yeah train probably is a better option but as I said most of the train lines had major work over New Year week. For example if I wanted to get the train to Glasgow I would have had to change trains twice and it would have taken me 2 hours. I can drive to the city centre in 30 min. If I wanted to go to edinburgh I would have had to wait hours between trains and there were none on a Sunday. Plus you wouldn't be able to enjoy the scottish scenery much with the pissing rain and the fact it's dark by 330. I'm not talking about what they have done etc I'm just commenting on the fact that people don't realise that scotland isn't just a big city with great transport links.

RoyalFamilyFan · 03/01/2022 11:59

@derxa so how did Catherine and William manage a train journey to Scotland during a lockdown if covid and security are an issue? Or were they reckless to do this journey during a covid lockdown?

Do you have children?
RoyalFamilyFan · 03/01/2022 12:02

@thehillswerebright I know Scotland, please don't patronise me as being an idiot who doesn't know what they are talking about. Sunday was New Years Day, of course there weren't commercial trains running.
You do know the Royal Family don't necessarily travel on commercial trains? You do know there is a British Royal Train that doesn't run to a timetable? Because the way you are talking it sounds as if you think I am saying they should hop on the 11.18am from Kings Cross and hope to find a free seat and that the train isn't delayed so they can make their change.
They would go up on the Royal Train. A private luxury train that would run at a time to suit them. Timetables are totally irrelevant.

OP posts:
Ohsofedupwiththis · 03/01/2022 12:03

I am going up that way soon.

I sure as hell ain't driving or taking the car up there for a short trip!

Now if I was going on holiday and staying in a holiday cottage then I would probably drive.

But if I was really concerned about the environment I wouldn't drive that distance.

RoyalFamilyFan · 03/01/2022 12:05

@Pumperthepumper I do not claim to be an environmentalist. I am also not a hypocrite.
My carbon output is way lower than Charles and Camillas and I make very different choices to them because of the environment i.e. not flying from England to Scotland.
The only bloody thing Charles actually do is have a hobby Aston Martin running on wine, and garden. That is it. Bloody hypocrite.

So, just so we’re clear, you only want people who live a 100% ethically perfect life to talk about the dangers of climate change?

Even though you’re a hypocrite yourself?
