@StormzyinaTCup

Michelle Obama was so right with what she said about public service:

"Public service is a bright, sharp, hot spotlight," said Mrs Obama, who spent eight years in the White House while her husband, Barack Obama, was US president.
"And most people don't understand it, and nor should they. The thing that I always keep in mind is that none of this is about us in public service, it's about the people we serve."

Love that woman.

I listened to a political podcast this week where they all agreed that she would storm to the White House if she ever decided to run. I think they’re right. She’s great.
StormzyinaTCup · 16/11/2021 14:43

Ooh I’ll look that podcast out LondonWolf👍🏻

@Roussette

And if it was found out that he did turn it down, the criticism on here would be huge. How dare he, he only wants the Hollywood celeb lifestyle, he's left all his Army connections behind, he doesn't care about the Veterans, even though he is one, I can just imagine it.
Or he could have said with not being an American veteran it wasn't appropriate and to choose an actual American veteran to hand out the medals but that if they wanted he would say a brief prerecorded message to those being honoured who have now been forgotten in favour of a dress.

Just want to add my favourite Obama quote:
'When they go low we go high!'
I repeat that to myself when needed sometimes!

@Viviennemary

I don't see Zara and Mike lobbying politicians, doing state visits to New York and handing out medals.
They don't because they they have another field, which is not direct humanitarian, because they have always worked in a different field to H&M.

Mike is part of a rugby podcast, and he features in it frequently, so he is constantly seen in that world.

Zara goes to Australia/NZ to flog her horseriding items, and hosts private events, that are a big deal in the field and she gets paid a lot. She has her own brand, gives out trophies, sells art etc. She does this here in the UK too, but it's not as publicised.

While Zara did us proud with her trophies, she is not the best out of the best in her horse riding field, that she should be singled out to get the best benefits. A reporter did raise this, and concluded that it's because of her royal status, that she stands out. Her good, but not incredible art sells for thousands.

I have not seen Mike in the rugby field in ages, but he is still important in the field.

That is their field. H&M have their own field.

H&M never once said they wanted a 'quiet life' nor privacy. This is said daily, by royal reporters, but no such thing was ever said.

It's the symbiotic relationships Sally.
Not only that, but if you don't toe the line, you get threats.

This is the article that was pulled within minutes. Same reporter also wrote about MM calling her woke and aligning with the left. That was never pulled.

@PickupaPenguin8

Who is actually going to care enough about their doings to watch this Netflix documentary though?
rubicscubicle. 😉
rubicscubicle · 16/11/2021 16:31

Are people who are watching Azeem Rafiq actually thinking, 'he is rubbishing the same team that has been paying his salary and helping him provide for his family', are they also thinking ' he hates this country'. Just wondering, because I don't see this if a person is just telling us what took place. I don't think, 'oh, he should keep that within the club, they have been good to him accepting him to be a part of the team and paying him'.

I imagine racism is traumatic indeed and talking about being treated in a sub-human way like that is humiliating.

This was in regards with the goal posts being moved for a black woman!

So? Are you saying that the poster in question wouldn’t appreciate that quote so much if they knew it related to a black woman?

Roussette · 16/11/2021 16:39

Give over @OverByYer
You know you won't be able to resist!

I never even watched the OW interview, I just read the script.
Betcha lots on here were glued!

@SallyLockheart

There undoubtedly is a relationship between the RF and the press, and it works on cooperation to a certain degree to cover the events and organisations they are promoting but I won't go as far as to say the press is in the pockets of the RF.

Otherwise, we would hear next to nothing about Andrew's relationship with Epstein, or Michael Fawcett's dodgy dealings - and those stories have headlined in all the UK press in recent months.

We do hear next to nothing about others.

I had the TV news on all day today, and yesterday nothing about Fawcett, nor about the Bloomberg report on Andrew and the Tories.

Come on, they were pretending it applies negatively too MM.
Roussette · 16/11/2021 16:44

Yes rubics I was very surprised (though not surprised at all) that the PA stuff with him, Banque de Havilland, his best mate who set it up and is a massive Tory donor etc... not a word.

(Word of warning though, you will be severely reprimanded if you talk of PA or any other members of the RF on this thread. Even if it is in the context of a conversation)

LondonWolf · 16/11/2021 16:44

Really? I genuinely didn’t interpret it that way.

rubicscubicle · 16/11/2021 16:45

@StartupRepair

Can't stop imagining the Queen, wide-eyed, leaning towards Oprah and saying 'Nobody knows this but I have my real birthday on a different day'.
Why on earth would the queen say that, considering she makes the nation celebrate her fake birthday.

Seriously, you posters can't even troll right.

This is actually big news.

RF member direct linked to money transactions with a political party in the UK.

I've never heard of Azeem Rafiq, but that's always been my opinion about Prince Charles. He should have had those conversations with his parents and perhaps with his sons, not with reporters. Back when all of this was originally said (which was years ago), he was a long way from being a role model of how to conduct one's personal life. You may recall a great deal of dirty laundry being aired in public regarding his divorce. Diana was far from blameless there, but Charles was the one ultimately at fault.

Charles seems to have grown up, albeit belatedly. He's stopped blaming others for his self-created problems, at least publicly, and he's doing his job. Whatever issues there were between him and his parents, they seem to have resolved them long ago. I hope for the same outcome for Harry. But just because Charles did something doesn't mean everyone on here is going to leap to defend it. It was wrong for him and Diana to do it then, and it's wrong for Harry and Meghan to do it now.

PurpleOkapi · 16/11/2021 16:50

I think everyone knows that Michelle Obama is a black woman. IIRC, that quote was in reference to hardball politics and the personal insults that often accompany it, not goalpost-moving, but why does it matter?

smilesy · 16/11/2021 16:53

Come on, they were pretending it applies negatively too MM.
How have you leapt to that extraordinary conclusion? The poster was echoing the sentiments of a previous poster who was praising the Obamas.

Roussette · 16/11/2021 16:53

Yes rubics and the fact he was promoting the money laundering bank owned by his friend whilst travelling as a Trade Envoy supposedly promoting British business.
Anyway, I'm skating on thin ice here... so do feel free to come across to the PA thread, it's within Royal Family topic 'Prince Andrew thoughts'. It's a bit quiet on the thread, but we are discussing it.

Well, I see a lot of berating on MM defending with do not mention other royals. Yet, the same people go on about how others do not want to 'upstage' everyone else. I mean the whole point of criticism and berating MM is that she is not acting royal enough, is it not.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/11/2021 17:02

Many thanks for the NYT links, @MummyJ12 ... not surprisingly given the source, I thought them pretty good and well balanced

Yet another thing I hadn't realised is that the gala invitation centred Harry rather than both of them. Nothing wrong with taking your OH along of course, but given that he's been pretty good in the past about honouring veterans without making it all about him, it's hard not to wonder just who was keenest on the blaze of publicity
