For those that are interested - I know I am.

Does anyone know when the appeal judgement will be made.

@Aspiringmatriarch

She has not admitted or been proven to have lied btw. She apologised for unintentionally misleading the court which is not the same thing (although I realise there are strong opinions on that).
She lied, 100%. The only thing she was upset about was being found out - the emails proved beyond doubt that she cooperated with Scobie. In effect, she apologised for being found out. Once JK’s email were in ANL’s possession, she had no option to admit she cooperated with Scobie.

I have read the rather dreadful Finding Freedom. It contains fulsome accounts of events and conversations where only H and M were present or where they were just with the queen. It is obvious that the authors were briefed my Meghan or someone very close to her or they were just writing fan fiction.

smilesy · 14/11/2021 21:10

And as state, once more, FF has no relevance to the case. It comes out after the publication of the letter and the emails have nothing to do with the letter.

If you go back to earlier in the thread, I linked to an article which explains in layman’s terms why the fact that there was collaboration with the authors of Finding Freedom is extremely pertinent to ANL’s case with regard to the privacy claim.

Absolutely!! It was always obvious to everyone that Meghan/Harry briefed the author or friends but now it has been confirmed. I think Oprah Winfrey should interview M & H again, put forward every inconsistency that has come up with their original interview and also quiz them about this.
Serenster · 14/11/2021 21:13

To be fair, once Jason Knauf’s witness statement was filed with the court, she didn’t really have many options but to apologise for inadvertently misleading the court - she can’t possibly admit she did it on purpose, and she has to say something.

Gwrach · 14/11/2021 21:14

So now we're going with the argument her fibbing doesn't matter because the fib wasn't in direct link to the current court case in your opinion.....ok then.

rubicscubicle · 14/11/2021 21:21

The previous judge also accused MM of collaboration, tbf. Because of the fact that FF is irrelevant to the case having come out after the letter was splashed everywhere MM did not face perjury charges then. She won't now either because there is still no evidence that it's linked, and her statement also means she did not deliberately lie in court.

“No particular meeting stood out in my mind, as there was a daily deluge of media inquiries which he was tasked with handling.”

Meghan and Harry have also denied ever meeting the authors in person and there is no evidence that they did so.

In that hearing, MM also presented outright lies from the DM, the judge threw them out, so I'm a bit surprised that the MoS irrelevant evidence is allowed to stand. MM's own evidence was thrown out as nothing to do with the case.

The only difference is that no one put the DM lies in front news, nor made any headlines, and the DM did put MM in the front pages this time.

And if it was just fan fiction, the Sussexes had the option to sue. They're not afraid of legal action, as we can all see. They didn't.
SallyLockheart · 14/11/2021 21:24

I’m sure that ANL would like to double check with Meghan whether she did or did not cooperate with the five friends to leak selected parts of her letter to the people magazine. She claimed she didn’t direct those friends to speak to people magazine in the same way that she didn’t cooperate with Scobie….

Do you seriously believe that Meghan didn't deliberately lie - really??!!

And they did not sue Lady C with all her lies either.

So perhaps that suggests they weren't lies!
Zuluqueen · 14/11/2021 21:33

I hope there are no more Oprah interviews for the future tbh. The misogynoir & racism that followed the Oprah interview were horrific. They are gone now, doing their own thing . This court case is the last thing that really ties her to the British tabloids & some of the criticism. If she wins and ANL don’t appeal then great for her. I think people’s opinions in UK are entrenched, hence why her polls numbers are brought up regularly to show she is unpopular here. If she looses this appeal then I suppose the story continues, but I hope she considers her options of dropping the whole thing even it means she pays up the costs.Longterm this would be good for their mental health. The headlines will be brutal & opinions even so . Eventually people will move on ( hopefully not to the next target in the RF, because nobody deserves some of what M has had to endure).
There is a whole big world out there in the Commonwealth & elsewhere where H&M can try to make a difference to the causes they care about.

rubicscubicle · 14/11/2021 21:33

So perhaps that suggests they weren't lies!

Or it proves that they don't sue everyone as you are trying to imply they are.

Seriously though, cannot believe anyone believes a word from Lady C who has never even met them.

islandbeach · 14/11/2021 21:33

her statement also means she did not deliberately lie in court.

“No particular meeting stood out in my mind, as there was a daily deluge of media inquiries which he was tasked with handling.”

Meghan and Harry have also denied ever meeting the authors in person and there is no evidence that they did so.

How are we meant to believe what she says now when she (intentionally or not) gave an untrue statement before?

And the final paragraph is interesting. They say they have always denied meeting them and there is no evidence they did so. Denying you did something and there being no evidence you did it, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen!

Serenster will probably explain this better than me but my understanding is the judge striked out the other articles MM put in the claim because they were not relevant to privacy and copyright.(they would be relevant to something like defamation/libel because she was saying they weren’t true.).

The judge didn’t strike out any FF evidence because it was part of ANL’s defence - he did decide it wasn’t a good enough defence though.

I don't think it proves it at all - Meghan and Harry just love to sue!

Lady C may never have met them but she knows the circles they moved in.

See I don't see the misogyny or racism - which is always trotted out when Meghan is criticised but it has nothing to do with her unpopularity here.
rubicscubicle · 14/11/2021 21:43

There have been over 10 books on MM.

How you conclude this case means she likes to sue is beyond me. Other than you parroting what the tabloids say.

Her unpopularity where? On MN? Or in the UK?

As can be seen from this thread, not everyone feels like you do!

Good post Zulu

Yes I do realise that Roussette and I meant the UK

I don't have to "parrot the tabloids" just watch the news.

I think the majority Roussette - I don't know of anyone in real life who supports Harry and Meghan now - not one person.
Aspiringmatriarch · 14/11/2021 21:54

The (Murdoch owned) media have been relentless in their creation of a narrative so it's not surprising sadly. I'd say 'middle England' doesn't like Meghan, that much is true.

Viviennemary · 14/11/2021 21:58

I didnt like her much to begin with. Too fake and showy for me. But most folk liked her or didn't mind her. Don't know one person now with a good word to say.
