Will Sophie take the title Princess

Viviennemary · 16/10/2021 12:50

Sophie will be 18 next month and will have the choice of whether to be styled HRH Princess Sophie or not. It was her parents decision not to have her styled thus even though she could be as the grandchild of the monarch. Not sure but I thought probably not. But if she was to become a working royal opening town halls and so on the title Princess would look better on the plaques.

I doubt that she will assume use of the Princess title. Although her mother has said it will be up to her at 18, I doubt that it really is up to her. Charles has made it clear he wants a slimmed down monarchy, and the Queen has gone along with this. Louise and the Wessexes won't go against the wishes of Charles. She will continue to be known as Lady Louise.

julieca · 16/10/2021 20:56

@PurpleOkapi I have never used the phrase trick her. I simply said that an 18 year old does not have the life experience to totally understand what she would be agreeing to.

LuluJakey1 · 16/10/2021 21:11

@DoubleTweenQueen

If she becomes a full-time working member of the RF, I imagine the monarch will bestow a title, but I don't think she will ever be 'Princess'.
She is a Princess- as the daughter of the son of a monarch, she just does not use the title.
DoubleTweenQueen · 17/10/2021 12:07

@LuluJakey1 I think she may have the right to be titled HRH/Princess when she turns 18, but her parents have said that’s unlikely.
I’m not sure someone is ‘HRH/Princess” unless titled as so?
I have no idea!

Samcro · 17/10/2021 12:33

@MintyCedric

And if this does happen, it will be because William and Catherine are too lazy to take on many engagements so have persuaded an 18-year old to step in and take on some of their work

Perhaps if William's brother hadn't buggered off to like the celebrity highlife and sell his family out the highest bidder, he wouldn't consider needing a bit more help...not that any of us know anything about what's going on in this respect anyway!

help doing what? they do barely nothing.
julieca · 17/10/2021 12:43

I know they barely do anything. But they don't want to do anything.
And in what way is this slimming back the RF?

smilesy · 17/10/2021 14:02

I know they barely do anything. But they don't want to do anything.

And you know this how? Did they tell you? Or do you think if you keep repeating it it will become a fact?
Also, people seem to forget that William is still quite a long way from the throne. The Queen is still here and as such still does the lions share of the work as monarch. And Charles is next in line. The Queen’s other children still work. What do you want William to do?

Samcro · 17/10/2021 16:50

I thought he and kate were working royals.
Did I get that wrong?

julieca · 17/10/2021 16:53

Yes they are FT working royals. Look at the court circulars to see how little they do.

smilesy · 17/10/2021 17:31

Yes they are full time royals, but I meant that there are already other royals doing work because they started before the Cambridges. It may well be that they take on more work now that PP has gone and the pandemic is over. Do you want them to tell the other Royals they are going to take over from them for the sake of it? I don’t know. I was more taking issue with it being stated as a fact that they “don’t want to do anything”. We know this how?

smilesy · 17/10/2021 17:40

Also, hasn’t it been said before that the court circulars only show some of the work done by the royals? I’m sure we had a whole discussion on it before, but I can’t remember the details 🤔

julieca · 17/10/2021 17:44

No the Court Circulars show all their public engagements. Some posters have said there must be other work behind the scenes. But that is made up.
The Queen does havé other work and we know this. We know exactly what she does and she has always been hard working. Unlike her other royals do not get daily boxes of documents to read or a weekly meeting with the PM.

smilesy · 17/10/2021 17:51

How do you know this please?

julieca · 17/10/2021 17:55

@smilesy because when questioned they didnt know. They simply thought the RF members must be doing more than are in the Court Circulars. The truth is they are not, with the exception of the Queen. But we also know what extra stuff she does. They don't keep their work secret. Meetings for big projects all go in the Court Circulars as well. And the Queen and Anne do a lot. Some others not much. You cant even go by number of engagements, some are literally a phone call and others are all day. Reda the court circulars, they are interesting.
Ánd the person who said that the pandemic meant fewer engagements - hasn't affected Anne. She has been as busy as ever.

OK so they're not the hardest working royals, but as @smilesy has pointed out, given Wills is still 2nd in line to throne, why should they be.

79 engagement in 77 days...blimey that Kate is a lazy moo!

Still @julieca you clearly have an axe to grind so you crack on.

smilesy · 17/10/2021 18:04

“julieca

Sorry you’ve lost me there. Who are you talking about and what didn’t they know?

At the very least, I assume they do some preparation for public appearances so they know what questions to ask.

julieca · 17/10/2021 18:15

@MintyCedric look at them. I do. An engagement in 1 day may be a phone call. Another day 7 engagements then none for 5 days.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 17/10/2021 18:47

@julieca - they are pretty lazy tbf. If I did less work than my nonagenarian grandmother, I'd be a bit ashamed, really.

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 17/10/2021 18:56

Don’t Wills and Kate’s schedules reflect that they are parents to three young children?

smilesy · 17/10/2021 19:03

They might well do less work or they might do work behind the scenes that we don’t know about. They probably do less work than grandma because grandma is the Queen so there are many things that only she can do. And as we have said, William is not yet that close to the throne. I have no idea. What I do object to is assertions that they don’t work because they don’t want to as if this is a fact.

It’s quite clear that the Court Circular doesn’t show all their work.

Take Prince William for example. His Erathdhot work includes filming all the introductions for the 5 documentaries that were dhown in advance of tonight’s awards. They will have involved reviewing scripts, rehearsals and filimg - several days’ work - none of which was recorded in the CC. Nor was his pre-meeting with its hosts, of which a photo was posted.

To take Kate, none of her recent engagements in Windermere or Northern Ireland were listed in the CC. We can see with our own eyes that she was there, though.

Also when they make announcements, it is quite clear that they have met with people and had photo shoots in advance to prepared for the announcement. None of that is formally announced either. But it obviously happens.

If I did seven engagements in one day, I'd be ready for a few days off, too. But as others have said, they do plenty of "work" that isn't on the books as an engagement.

julieca · 17/10/2021 20:53
@julieca - they are pretty lazy tbf. If I did less work than my nonagenarian grandmother, I'd be a bit ashamed, really.
Yes so would I.

julieca · 17/10/2021 20:54

@PurpleOkapi You obviously don't work then. A day spent at various meetings, phone calls and then an evening dinner with clients is a normal working day for many.
