could not believe it when I saw the advert for it last night. so PW is presenting this thing. the same Prince who flies all over the world.
obviously won't be watching as him and DA lecturing people about climate change is so hypocritical.

but can I just that the Queen lobbying about her estates in Scotland is nothing to do with William particularly, nor Harry, given they are both her grandsons

Roussette · 02/10/2021 09:20

I disagree. Climate laws in Scotland and their GM lobbying parliament to be exempt. Those in the RF in UK are surely responsible for what each says and does...

But we can agree to disagree Smile

Does anyone know the difference in polluting output between helicopter flight KP to Norfolk (fast), and a road trip there (maybe traffic hold-ups and an extra car for the security people)?

Probably not much in it, at a guess

Don't know the answer but you may be surprised how much these helicopter burn ....

They could use electric cars and plan their route off peak hours. Not too sure with the pilot and the whole family, how many security and entourage can come onboard, so it would not surprise me if there is someone else driving to the destination on top of this (unless they make multiple helicopter rides).
rubicscubicle · 02/10/2021 10:58

Expects have found helicopters are significant sources of particulate air pollution, and have been shown to be major sources of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon particles (PAHs)—an especially harmful component of particulate air pollution.

They definitely polite more than cars.

There was no need to “compete” with Harry and Meghan at this point, and there was no Megxit announcement until early 2020, after the initiative was launched. So how can anyone say it was born out of a need for William to keep up with what his brother and sister in law were doing?

I am quite sure that one of the reasons for the character assassination on Meghan was because of her and Harry being popular and fears they would overshadow William - see the private jet fiasco. Infact, that is what led to the exit.

Serenster · 02/10/2021 12:41

And if you’d bothered to read my post, rubicscubicle, I noted that Harry and Meghan’s own account was that it was only after their tour of Australia and New Zealand that this issue became a concern. The timeline suggests the Earthshot Prize was being developed by Prince William before the tour, however. So jealously can’t have been a motive.

rubicscubicle · 02/10/2021 12:47

The Australian tour was in 2018.

Serenster · 02/10/2021 12:57

October 2018 yes, I know that. Prince William has said that he had already started working on Earthshot by then.

rubicscubicle · 02/10/2021 13:23

A link to where he said that?

smilesy · 02/10/2021 13:39

@rubicscubicle. I’ve linked to the Sky article where he mentions being inspired in Namibia in 2018 twice now. He went to Namibia in September 2018. And talking of links, I asked you elsewhere if you could provide a link for Meghan ever being as UN ambassador as I couldn’t find it. Do you have one please?

rubicscubicle · 02/10/2021 13:45

I'm sure you can google it as you google all the bad things about her.

Also, no need to hitch everything on the Australian tour, H&M were already popular at that point, but the tour formally confirmed this was the case internationally.

At that point Harry had already been going ahead with Invictus, and William did not have a big pet project in sight.

smilesy · 02/10/2021 13:53

@rubicscubicle. I have googled it. I can’t find it. It was Serenster, not me who linked to the Australia tour, but I think she is correct in her assessment of things going awry from then on.

Serenster · 02/10/2021 13:57

Meghan’s own words, rubicscubicle. I suspect she knows more than you do about what was going on:

“After we had gotten back from our Australia tour — which was about a year before that — and we talked about when things really started to turn, when I knew we weren’t being protected [against press stories]”.

rubicscubicle · 02/10/2021 14:02

Not linked, when they noticed the change and how the palace was working with the media.

William was in competition with Harry, especially after Meghan came on the scene. Harry's Invictus was gaining more ground, and people were mumbling where is William's project by that point. He had to have something big to stick his name on, took him long enough.

Which people were mumbling? Why can’t you just accept that this project was Williams idea and it was rather a good one. Just because you clearly don’t like him and prefer Harry doesn’t mean he isn’t allowed to have a good idea. I would have applauded Harry if he had done this and as I and others have said, we applaud Harry for Invictus. You tried to undermine the timeline for Earthshot and couldn’t, so now you are trying to make out that William only did this because of competition with Harry 🤷‍♀️

derxa · 02/10/2021 14:57

people were mumbling where is William's project Confused Not really.

Aspiringmatriarch · 02/10/2021 16:22

people were mumbling where is William's project
Not really.
Actually, they were. I think it's something that behind the scenes the palace probably weren't too impressed by either. The big projects and charity campaigns are one area I believe royalty can do well in and make a difference with. William has dabbled here and there but nothing that defines him in a positive light, he's definitely been slow on the uptake if you compare him to his father and grandfather. Hopefully this prize will help with that.

Samcro · 02/10/2021 16:55

Isn't it better though if they stick with something they have knowledge about, or experience.
At least Kate and harry have done that meghan too.
Yet this is something that I can't remember anything that William has done that says he has any knowledge about saving the planet.

OP posts:
julieca · 02/10/2021 16:57

Agreed. The helicopter flights show he has zero real interest in the environment.

like Harry and Meghan talking about vaccines .........................
julieca · 02/10/2021 17:03

They all pop up at things to support charities when they have no real knowledge of the issue. This is what Harry and Meghan did at the vaccine event.
But the earthshot prize is being led by William, so yes he should know something about the issues and show some commitment to them.

Samcro · 02/10/2021 17:27

H&M have been ripped apart for the vaccine thing.
I was thinking more invictus and kates eary years thing.
Its subject matter that they both have knowledge about.

smilesy · 02/10/2021 17:35

To be fair, Samcro, William has spent a couple of years researching this and has brought other experts on board. And he does say he was influenced by his father in being interested in the natural world. We all have to learn somehow. Harry was obviously involved in the army, but he wouldn’t necessarily have been knowledgeable about disabled sports, so he had to learn. Kate also had much to learn about early years issues and again, took advice.
