This according to guess who. The DM of course. To avoid getting papers served says the article. Maybe he's just gone for a nice break. Accompanied by Fergie.

I thought he was there already. Apparently they've tried to serve papers at Windsor unsuccessfully, so what difference does it make if he's at Balmoral?
He's just making himself look so guilty, isn't he?

Viviennemary · 08/09/2021 10:38

I agree. I also thought he was there already. Maybd he was earlier on in the summer and now has gone back. Says he drovd up yesterday.

Funny, I thought all the newspapers refuse to write stories about Andrew? Grin

The Queen normally stays at Balmoral til the end of September (in a normal year, anyway, pre Covid and Prince Philip’s death). So I guess Prince Andrew has a figleaf of “just staying here to look after my recently widowed mother” until she returns to London, at least. Still, it’s not like he has anything else to do with his time!

There’s no rule that a defendant has to make service easy, by the way - it’s the claimant’s responsibility to serve someone. You can’t get away with avoiding service forever though - the claimant can eventually get a court order by which some form of act is substituted for personal service. In the past it used to be taking steps like newspaper advertisements to make the defendant aware that there is a claim against them. I think Andrew is already well aware of the claim though, given all the coverage its filing had!

The Royal Family decamp to Balmoral every single summer.

This is no different from any other year, where he would spend part of the summer up there (as they all do)

I think this is barrel-scraping. If there's anything to be served at this point, it'll still reach him

??

He's doing what he always does, that's not taking sides, it's a statement of existing practice for his whole lifetime and which he shares with his whole family.

I have no idea if there are papers to be served imminently - I must have missed reporting on that.

I am still convinced that when they exist, they will catch up with him wherever he is

(And, OK splitting hairs, isn't it ephebophilia?)

PeriWrinkles · 08/09/2021 11:15

No congestion charge there on the taxpayer-funded Bentley, perhaps. Useless tosser(s).

Papergirl1968 · 08/09/2021 11:17

He can run but he can’t hide forever.
Not the point, but what I want to know is, it’s a long drive so do they stop off at motorway services for the toilet? They must have stopped at one point because in one of the photos Andrew was driving and in another the guy who had been in the front passenger seat (security?) was driving.

I hope this is his life now. Constantly looking over his shoulders to see if anyone is making a determined beeline towards him to serve him papers. It would be most pleasing if it were to be televised. Maybe in Westminster Cathedral at his brother's coronation.

Divebar2021 · 08/09/2021 11:29

Pretty bizarre thread. He goes every year - they all go for varying lengths of time. You could go if you wanted ( outside of the summer season) as Balmoral estate has holiday cottages you can rent.

GrinGrinGrin As long as it's the last coronation...

Yes. I wonder if he is worried about what his future holds, or does his considerable arrogance protect him from such fears?
Dreamstate · 08/09/2021 11:45

There could be some element of truth it, end of the day no way they could get even close to him if the Queen is in residence. More chance of being served papers outside of Balmoral.

Highly unlikely there will be a coronation in Westminster Cathedral as it's Catholic. That would cause a bit of a stir.

That's my Catholic upbringing coming out in me! Grin

Andrew getting collared and Charles returning to the Old Faith for the big day. What an occasion it promises to be!

Not a defender of PA, at best I think he's a useless, arrogant parasite but I'm not sure how UK citizens are subject to foreign legal procedures. Americans don't seem subject to ours.
PA should be answering questions to the British police, to establish the truth of the situation, not the FBI. And if it's the case that an alleged crime was committed on US soil, which is what makes him answerable to the FBi then that has to be reciprocal if they expect UK citizens to take being served seriously and respect the process.

SpindleWhorl · 08/09/2021 13:17

He said he'd cooperate with the FBI to Emily Maitlis, and then didn't.

Mamamia7962 · 08/09/2021 15:16

MrsHunt - He may well be interviewed by the UK police depending on what the judge decides in the Victoria Guthrie lawsuit and what Ghislaine Maxwell says in court in November. I think he will be staying very close to the Queen and not leaving any royal residences for the foreseeable future!

Plumtree391 · 08/09/2021 15:32

'Allegedly' to avoid having papers served on him. There could be all sorts of reasons why he has gone to Scotland.

Anyway who cares?

KaptainKaveman · 08/09/2021 15:47

They should swap him for Anne Sacoolas. One offending coward for another.

Plumtree391 · 08/09/2021 15:56

I'll have to google Anne Sacoolas, the name is unfamiliar.

We only know what the media feed us, the facts may be quite different.

If only eh?
Plumtree391 · 08/09/2021 16:04

I've googled Anne Sacoolas. I knew about the case, just didn't mentally note her name.

I don''t see how either our law enforcement people or those of the USA could swap her for Prince Andrew. The cases are entirely different.
