I like the idea and I like the video. (Not that keen on the big desk) And I though MM looked...alive!

Not sure who the other woman was. But there was good chemistry.

@Marmaladeagain

But Marcus Rashford can't be an apolitical head of state - unless he's willing to give up his right to reply and not to comment on political events of the day.
Not only that - this is all talk from People who know it will never happen. They don't want MR as head of anything anymore than they would H and a mixed race family. The British are really not ready for a person of colour (black / dark brown So it's just talk from same people Who would be writing negative threads all over MN if it were ever a near reality. MR is doing amazing work which is appreciated and he is loved by certain sections. But the Tories do not like him and they would soon bring him down if he got close. For example comments from the MP who suggested he should have been playing football and not Politics - she wasn't bright enough to see that he was doing the job she should have. As soon as he have a little of himself there were questions about why he was on FSM and where was his father. I mean who would put themselves up For that? Wouldn't you rather use the energy to do what brings you happiness which is probably doing a little good for someone else. So the point I'm Making is many of you are holding MR up there disingenuously because he doesn't rock the boat -if he ever stood to Make the structural changes needed you would be throwing missiles at him asking who does he think he is.
Zuluqueen · 07/08/2021 16:18

@PreparationPreparationPrep I agree with you. Marcus Rashford /Stormzy are the right kind of black making changes and doing good now. As soon as they step out of their lane they would feel the wrath of even some of those who hold them on a pedestal in comparison to Meghan . Mo Farrah experienced it, when he was winning medals he was a British success story & a testament of how tolerant we are . When tabloids went after him later he was Somali born British Mo farah. Black people in Britain know this script, we are taught it from a young age.

Port1aCastis · 07/08/2021 16:23

@AnnunciataZ

You want M&H to say who it was NOT because you want to know who the racist is - but because you want to know who to defend and make excuses for or even deny on their behalf.

Touché @PreparationPreparationPrep that's pretty much exactly what will happen. PoC know racism when they see it but as always, some people on MN think it's worse to be called racist than to be at the receiving end of racism.

Agree, also not everyone on this thread or indeed on this site is white
Bovrilly · 07/08/2021 16:30

The British are really not ready for a person of colour (black / dark brown

What do you mean? How can you tell? There are quite a few MPs from minority backgrounds, who is voting for them?

So the point I'm
Making is many of you are holding MR up there disingenuously because he doesn't rock the boat

He does rock the boat though - he forced the government into a humiliating U turn.

Zuluqueen · 07/08/2021 16:38

I would love to see a black prime minister in my lifetime or at least my children lifetime, but damn I feel sorry for him/her. The journey to number 10 is potentially going to be hard of them& their families.

And god forbid that Black or Brown person would be a turncoat / whitewashed Tory like Priti Patel. shudder
Roussette · 07/08/2021 16:43

@Zuluqueen
My nomination would be David Lammy. He is a fantastic orator and highly thought of by some. He's been a wonderful spokesperson for the Windrush generation.

My DD has met him a number of times and even gets a Christmas card from him!

However.... predictably the amount of disgusting abuse he receives online is prolific and vile.

Dreamstate · 07/08/2021 16:51

So yo u even listen to yourself imagine this, a mum setter coming on and saying hey everyone in my life are telling me what i can or can't do, what's acceptable, what isn't, how much I should earn, what job I should have, what I am or am not allowed to say and even how I should spend my mo ey.

You would all be saying how dare people control you like that leave them all behind

Yes that's right you are trying to control a person! What hypocrites cos you would be telling a fellow mumsnetter to leave the bastard.

Except most of you cant leave her alone!

Your like some public controlling husband.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 07/08/2021 16:53

@Bovrilly
He does rock the boat though - he forced the government into a humiliating U turn.
And look at the abuse he got from the MP. When he didn't get the goal!

What do you mean? How can you tell? There are quite a few MPs from minority backgrounds, who is voting for them?
Do you think any of them will
Make it as leader of any party. Remember Chuku when he went for leader of the Labour Party- the intrusion and abuse he received made him pullout!

SueSaid · 07/08/2021 16:56

Yes look at the abuse Priti Patel gets. It's funny though, criticise mm and it's of course racist, despite the Sussexes appalling treatment of his family. Criticise and mock Priti Patel (you must've seen the offensive cartoons) and its all dandy because she's a Conservative!

Some people are very selective with their outrage aren't they.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 07/08/2021 16:57

Yes - eloquent and knows what he is talking about! Especially how he relates the experiences of his constituency to his parents generation.

SpringlikeBunk · 07/08/2021 17:00

"Do you think any of them will

Yeh I agree - not my issue to personally deal with but I do think the political culture in this country needs to change for everyones' sake?

We're left with power hungry nutcases because everyone with the capacity and a bit of common sense and boundaries thinks:

"Ok - shall I work for an IB for a seven figure salary and work with genuine "peers" - bright people I have things in common with?

Or do the same role for less money and have loads of idiots tearing me down and controlling my day-to-day life, plus people I don't even know or like or respect trawling through my details and making my life a misery?"

It's only those who are very, very thick-skinned and used to "confrontation" all the time and thrive in that environment who would want to get into politics now!

PreparationPreparationPrep · 07/08/2021 17:00

@JaniieJones
Im sure it's there but I hadnot seen any racial abuse of PP maybe I'm Not looking in the right places, but I do know that many people find her disdain and treatment of migrant refugees appalling.

SueSaid · 07/08/2021 17:02

'My nomination would be David Lammy. He is a fantastic orator '

Well I'm not sure about that but he seems a lovely bloke and can laugh at himself. I love this clip of him

www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1345434/Labour-party-news-david-lammy-latest-house-of-commons-alex-chalk-mp-video

PreparationPreparationPrep · 07/08/2021 17:06

@JaniieJones I didn't listen to the clip - it's a bit long. But saw the DE headline - is that the kind of thing you Love?

SueSaid · 07/08/2021 17:09

'Im sure it's there but I hadnot seen any racial abuse of PP maybe I'm Not looking in the right places'

No no no, it doesn't work like that. You don't have to see 'racist abuse', we have arrived at a situation where to have a negative opinion on someone must be due to their race not their actions. I'm sensing some of you aren't keen on this boot on the other foot scenario.

Roussette · 07/08/2021 17:09

Ahhhh I presume you're a fan of Priti Patel. Shock

Her decisions and past behaviour doesn't exactly engender likeability or trustworthiness does it?
Her record is appalling. If she had her way the death sentence would be reinstated, she'd ban same sex marriage, she labels immigrants as foreign criminals, she's a confirmed bully and the Police don't like her.
Apart from that...

Having said that, no one should be abused online, and that is wrong.

AnnunciataZ · 07/08/2021 17:12

There was a cartoon depicting PP as a cow which was pretty damn racist and roundly condemned.

However I dislike her because of her policies and views (she favours the death penalty FGS) and her party's policies, all of which affect people on a daily basis. Meghan's activities? Not so much.

SueSaid · 07/08/2021 17:15

'Ahhhh I presume you're a fan of Priti Patel'

Not at all, again my point is if the negative scrutiny of theSussexes is always race based why do some then stick the boot in with Patel and not see the blatant hypocrisy.

'Having said that, no one should be abused online, and that is wrong'

We've agreed again roussette Grin.

AnnunciataZ · 07/08/2021 17:18

If you want to draw a comparison between Meghan and a politician who gets a disproportionate amount of abuse then Diane Abbott is a better example. Not Priti Patel. There's numerous threads on MN tearing her apart for the most ridiculous of reason whereas with PP it's almost always about her politics.

Roussette · 07/08/2021 17:21

I stick the boot in about PP (not to PP) because of her past record. The fact she was taken on as HS despite being forced to resign before, secret meetings, her awful bullying that meant the taxpayer having to fork out ££££££ to shut it all up.... and the stuff mentioned above.

I don't feel like that about Meghan!

Yes, on the abuse online, I know about that !

Roussette · 07/08/2021 17:24

Annunciata Oh yes on Diane Abbott. What she has to go through every time she opens her mouth is appalling. She is ridiculed on MN also.
There is a lot she has done that is admirable, she is very popular in her constituency, but she's just the butt of jokes on here.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 07/08/2021 17:26

No no no, it doesn't work like that. You don't have to see 'racist abuse', we have arrived at a situation where to have a negative opinion on someone must be due to their race not their actions. I'm sensing some of you aren't keen on this boot on the other foot scenario.
@JaniieJones I'm not saying it's not there I'm sure it is after all she is an Asian MP in the UK. It maybe more of where I read but very rarely see a MN thread about PP and if it's there I'm
Not sure it is as popular for those who aren't keen on her as MM is to those who are not keen on her. IYSWM if PP comes up On my Twitter feed it's usually about her policies and response to issues affecting some groups. But as PP said racism is not acceptable and no one should have to tolerate it.

MrsMayJune · 07/08/2021 17:31

Priti Patel does receive racist abuse. Who says she doesn’t? However, she also abuses others and facilities racism (abuse of black footballers).

However, when we come to Diane Abbott it’s a whole different ball game. The abuse she receives is off the scale and I think the stats is that it accounts for half of all the abuse women MPs receive. If you say it has nothing to do with her race, you are part of the problem.

One thing is for sure, racism is part and parcel of British society and the media. Meghan was not approved of because she had black blood flowing through her veins.

I’ve always said that if your greatest supporters are white supremacists in the US, the dailymail and the right wing and the far right, then you’ve got a problem. The Royal Family has a racism problem. Thankfully no amount of denial can erase the truth that stares us right in the face. The history only makes it worse and the lack of diversity within the family and their senior staff has sown their own irrelevance.

SueSaid · 07/08/2021 17:32

'If you want to draw a comparison between Meghan and a politician who gets a disproportionate amount of abuse then Diane Abbott is a better example. Not Priti Patel'

Ah you like mm and Abbott so that criticism is not fair, you don't like Patel so that's ok. Got it.

This thread honestly. The selective 'bigotry and racist' allegations depending on personal preferences 🙄.
