I like the idea and I like the video. (Not that keen on the big desk) And I though MM looked...alive!

Not sure who the other woman was. But there was good chemistry.

Not sure Glasgow will be too impressed with this... given the secret lobbying of the Scottish Ministers. 'Glasgow' is more concerned about the huge amount of drug deaths it has.

Greenlittle · 06/08/2021 13:59

@Cacacoisfarraige, I’m sure the RF wants to keep their land. As does everyone else.

The questions are
A) why is the RF the only one exempt from the environmental laws?
B) why is secret lobbying allowed by the RF when others have to declare their interests?

Cacacois Of course she's not stopping green energy per se... even her reach and powers don't go that far!

I am just taken aback that people think it's OK for the Queen to lobby to have laws exempted for herself, and for this to be done in secret. There's plenty more, not just this Bill.

Ah, so she is for environmental action as long as the costs are borne by others and don’t apply to herself. And she has “wriggle room” as she is signing the law.

Unbelievable that some one actually believes that it is ok for a state official to use their public position to exempt themselves from environmental laws through secret lobbying.
Sorry @Cacacoisfarraige. Our moral compass and values in what is ok and what makes an environmentalist are so far apart that there is no point discussing this.

@Cacacoisfarraige

No *@Roussette* she hasn’t stopped it.

Power companies run lies across landowner land all the time without a CPO.

You may request them to move the pole or run it underground (within reason) I think but the power company doesn’t own the land the poles are on.

Sometimes large infrastructure projects need to take land from lots of house owners (cycle lane / greenways etc

In that case they will discuss with owners and if some of all don’t agree the council can use a CPO on those who won’t agree.

So it’s not that he has refused the right to build on her land, she wants to keep her land

Scottish Power has a pole on my land and every year they send me a cheque for £5.50. Grin
Roussette · 06/08/2021 14:10

derxa Don't spend it all at once!

Our house 23 years ago had a pole on it.. back then I think it was about £0.48 once a year!

Sorry? What do you mean?

No of course my telegraph pole which was in my front garden did not have a CPO. Green Pipelines are a tad different I would've thought.

@CauliflowerCheese30

I assume that anyone who wants to be mentored will go through their website, and once they have handed over their story, then they have to sign the terms and conditions, which then they have no control over. My opinion of course.
There is no information on what to do if you want to be mentored via this initiative. The website just asks people to pledge their time to help someone.

I’ve seen some people on Twitter pledge and say to DM then. Or pledges that say comment below why you think it should be you (i do not like that). Also some have just pledged with no mention how people can apply. So I have no idea how people are going to be selected, I guess it will be down to the person pledging to decide who they want to mentor. There is no way to ‘apply’ for it via archewell, even for her 40 friends.

This is another point of criticism for me because the attention and focus is all on all the people giving up their time and how wonderful they are. I’m sure they all feel much better about themselves. No focus on the actual people it’s meant to help, or any guidance on how they can access someone’s offer or how any of this will be followed up. Looks like you only have a chance if you are on certain social media too.

Greenlittle · 06/08/2021 14:16

From the Guardian

The Queen’s lawyers secretly lobbied Scottish ministers to change a draft law to exempt her private land from a major initiative to cut carbon emissions, documents reveal.
The exemption means the Queen, one of the largest landowners in Scotland, is the only person in the country not required to facilitate the construction of pipelines to heat buildings using renewable energy.
Her lawyers secured the dispensation from Scotland’s government five months ago by exploiting an obscure parliamentary procedure known as Queen’s consent, which gives the monarch advance sight of legislation.

Grin They renew the pole quite often. We cut it up and use it for fencing
Roussette · 06/08/2021 14:20

Rainy It was announced about 36 hours ago... I'm sure it's all in the planning.

Everything else that Royals do, all their initiatives, their zooms, their ideas... aren't jumped on within 36 hours with posters expecting chapter and verse, and results, and what will happen if this or that... otherwise it's awful.

Greenlittle · 06/08/2021 14:21

Of course all of us the mere public are unreasonable and environmental heathens. Hence we require laws. The Royal family is above it all. They need to be exempt from laws because, you know, they are enlighten environmentalists who simply don’t need laws. In fact they show their environmental credentials by exempting themselves from environmental laws. (And doing it secretly because they are just being modest about their superior understanding)

Just as they did from equality laws.

And transparency laws.

And income tax laws.

Cacacois Digging up land to lay a pipeline is rather different to putting up a telegraph pole, given the distance between them is a lot... surely...

The RF are still exempt from racial, ethnic and sexual equality laws.

Cacacois I'm sure you know what I mean. I am talking about digging up land to lay pipelines
Or a telegraph pole
