I like the idea and I like the video. (Not that keen on the big desk) And I though MM looked...alive!

Not sure who the other woman was. But there was good chemistry.

@Roussette

Rainy It was announced about 36 hours ago... I'm sure it's all in the planning.

Everything else that Royals do, all their initiatives, their zooms, their ideas... aren't jumped on within 36 hours with posters expecting chapter and verse, and results, and what will happen if this or that... otherwise it's awful.

I agree @Roussette, whenever any royal launches an initiative they are given a chance , it’s not dissected & continually criticised and results expected immediately. Harry & Meghan, especially Meghan the bar is high & has to be perfect, even gets compared to any other black person that is doing it just right .
Roussette · 06/08/2021 14:31

Cacacois I know you have experience of infrastructure. As I explained further up the thread, I don't.

Cacacois No one said the Royals are denying green energy in Scotland... they really didn't.

Zuluqueen · 06/08/2021 14:40
@Zuluqueen

Well the royals have been incorrectly accused of denying green energy to Scotland here 😂
There is that🤣

SueSaid · 06/08/2021 14:42

'whenever any royal launches an initiative they are given a chance , it’s not dissected & continually criticised'

It's this constant persecution complex narrative that is so tedious.

If any of the royals posted a glossy clip with this 'mentoring' initiative and an unfunny co star I'd have said the same thing.

Women are allowed voices, I'm allowed to say it comes across as self congratulating and so very cheesy. Forget '40 names for 40 minutes' or whatever the buzz phrase was. Get 40 celebs to actually negotiate posts and sponsorships without a little round of applause and spotlight shining on themselves.

So much whataboutery on this thread.

Why do you always use the royal family as a counter point to defend Meghan? It means nothing, they don’t even need mentioning on a thread about Meghan and an initiative she chose to do of her own free will outside of the RF.

I’m sure the Duchess of Sussex won’t appreciate being constantly associated with them after all the claims she’s made and desire to be independent Grin

Greenlittle · 06/08/2021 16:09

What Meghan is doing is offering the equivalent of a “free lunch”. If you want it, take it. She doesn’t owe us anything.

It is like people frothing and criticising about a free meal while accepting rubbish for food they have paid for.

And then saying thats whataboutery.

@Cacacoisfarraige, yes, I’ll probably ask for mentoring to stand for elections and I rely on your unwavering support regarding my dodgy dealings 😃

@Tuscancat

Kate does great work on early years? Why are people always pitching Meghan and Kate against each other? They are both excellent in different ways.
Agreed. I hate on threads like these where people pitch themselves as team Meghan or team kate. It's misogyny in action; there's more than enough room in the world for two royal wives to do their thing and it's embarrassing for grown women to be carrying on this way. I'd love to see the day when Mike Tindall and Jack Brookbanks are pitted against each other in such a ridiculous way.
Greenlittle · 06/08/2021 16:20

Kate is paid by us. So natural for us to expect tangible results and be critical when we see no real positive impact?
Megan is paid privately. I guess the ones who fund her can ask the tough questions and demand results?

The frothing is going on about her apparently being “hypocritical” for not doing more and not providing hand delivered child care vouchers and c-suite jobs.

I like the initiative. I like the video. Not sure about the desk. Or shoes. Not that keen on the decor either. I like country cottage cozy.

Of course she doesn't. I just think her high profile connections could be put to better use. I'd say the same if the Queen herself offered a 40 min mentoring sesh.

Op you keep saying 'Kate is paid by us'. You should stop this misogynistic thing you have pitting them against each other, it isn't a competition. We are allowed to scrutinise stuff celebs put out there regardless of who is bankrolling them.

She’s not offering the equivalent of a free lunch. She’s asking other people to offer the equivalent of a free lunch whilst not doing so herself.

Nothing misogynistic about saying Kate is paid by us. It is a fact.
I think we give circa 70 million a year to the family from our taxes?
Natural to demand “impact” and “outcomes” from people we fund

OP posts:
Greenlittle · 06/08/2021 16:36

@Cacacoisfarraige, what will the actual outcomes of Kates work? When can we see them? How will we measure effectiveness? How much does it cost us tax payers?

Aren’t these questions more pertinent for projects funded by tax payers rather than an initiative by an individual using private resources?

I’m sure all of Kate’s charities value her work as a patron just as much as Meghan's. I’m sure it’s been proven that royal patronages are very beneficial to charities. Surely that’s a good thing.

Did you also have an issue with Meghan as a paid Royal or just Kate?

Kate and William's costs are covered by the Duchy of Cornwall not the taxpayer.

Tons of information here. Feel free to critique it if you feel that strongly about Kate not doing enough with our money. I made my comments on it earlier in the thread.

No. Not the case. I've linked this article before, it doesn't go down well.

giving-evidence.com/2020/07/16/royal-findings/#:~:text=In%20short%2C%20we%20found%20that,engagements%20with%20them%20last%20year.here

The contents will be rubbished but let's just bear in mind it's a massive study, not an opinion piece and..
A database with 3 million entries. Every charity in England and Wales; every item in every set of financial statements it had reported in each of the last 25 years.

You have to read the contents to understand that royal patronages are not necessarily beneficial to charities, sometimes it's just costly, or counter productive. The benefits are only in staff morale or a feelgood factor.
