I like the idea and I like the video. (Not that keen on the big desk) And I though MM looked...alive!

Not sure who the other woman was. But there was good chemistry.

Ah, I remember! I’ve seen the other one in a funny clip about pizzas 😃

Um.... it’s Melinda whatshername isn’t it?

That’s a big stone table.

Greenlittle · 05/08/2021 14:55

Melinda... or Melissa? She has good comic delivery

Melissa McCarthy is one of my favourite comedians, she was in Bridesmaids (a stupidly hilarious film!) and also took off Sean Spicer brilliantly on Saturday Night Live back at the beginning of Trump's presidency.

I liked this video.

Samcro · 05/08/2021 16:15

I liked what I saw. seemed a really nice idea.
the lap top set up was odd though.

Greenlittle · 05/08/2021 16:32

I liked the laptop on top of books. I’ve done that for zoom calls!

I wonder if the exchange was impromptu or whether they had rehearsed it?

Ah, Roussette, so she is a comedian. Good delivery and quite entertaining

the angle is very important in zoom calls, I try to show just the top half of my head because I hate how I look Grin

I would imagine it was discussed but not necessarily rehearsed.

Very definitely rehearsed.
Flomoon · 05/08/2021 16:35

She always looks great imo. The initiative seems interesting, although not sure how relatable a celebrity advising how to balance going back to work would be. Would be great to have funding for organisations that can provide support at local levels, but again, that's not her burden and its great to be doing anything towards it!

Greenlittle · 05/08/2021 16:39

That’s an interesting point. Can a call with a celeb make a difference? Or is it that they will pull strings and help you get an interview or job?

Obviously it was rehearsed.

Melissa McCarthy seems like a lot of fun. Doesn’t take herself terribly seriously.

It's good to raise awareness of the issue. Not sure that 'confidence' is necessarily the main issue faced by women who've been pushed out of work due to the pandemic, though. Things like childcare being unavailable, carrying the extra burden at home, jobs being lost through furlough or companies closing. All issues that have a structural / policy basis, so businesses and governments need to act. It's not solvable on an individual basis by each woman realising their true worth.

ElspethFlashman · 05/08/2021 16:47

Obviously it was scripted. As was Harry juggling outside. I mean they're both actors so a 30 second skit isn't exactly taxing.

I thought she looked lovely but I absolutely hate those big stone oversized tables you see in a lot of Californian mansions (have a bit of a Zillow addiction, lol).

GrrRightBackAtYou · 05/08/2021 16:52

I’m trying to figure out her necklace -is it zodiac or something?

ElspethFlashman · 05/08/2021 16:55

Yeah they're 2 different diamond constellations for each of the kids star signs.

$2k each I think.

HotChoc10 · 05/08/2021 17:01

I thought the video was quite sweet and charming but am a bit curious about the initiative. Are the 40 friends she's recruited set up with an unemployed woman or do they have to find one? How much can you really do in 40 minutes?

I've seen lots of the famous people's posts about taking part in it but not much about who they're helping and how.

I kept thinking ... imagine stubbing your toe or banging your knee on that. Ow!

Samcro · 05/08/2021 17:05

What a nasty post.
By the way she is 40

Applesonthelawn · 05/08/2021 17:06

I thought it was unbearably cringe, not funny and unpleasant. Alone the idea - would it help someone who has lost her job to have 40 minutes talking to Princess Eugenie (who seems like a lovely person but without particularly pertinent experience)? It just seems like they find people who have suffered a misfortune (job loss this time), and latch onto it with some pretend "help" so we can all admire their worthiness, wealth and extreme good fortune. For the person targeted, it's probably at best a fleeting distraction from the reality of life, at worst demoralising to be used as a prop because your life has hit a bad patch. And all because it's her birthday, all to celebrate her. Just massively tone deaf.

Regularchoice · 05/08/2021 17:08

I saw Princess Eugenie is rowing in behind the initiative. I guess MM didn't see the episode of the Windsors where B and Eugenie had to get JOBS!! 😂

ElspethFlashman · 05/08/2021 17:09

I have to admit I do not understand the 40 minutes to get someone back into work thing.

Are these women supposed to offer them a job or something? If not, I don't understand how it would help someone?

I mean, say I was unemployed and Beatrice rang me. She seems like a lovely person but what could she actually do to help??

ElspethFlashman · 05/08/2021 17:10

Or Eugene rather. Always get them two mixed up.

Regularchoice · 05/08/2021 17:11

Maybe recommend you a nice fascinator Elspeth?
