Blurb from publisher.

In an intimate and heartfelt memoir from one of the most fascinating and influential global figures of our time, Prince Harry will share, for the very first time, the definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him.

Covering his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the frontlines of Afghanistan, and the joy he has found in being a husband and father, Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait, on that shows readers that behind everything they think they know lies an inspiring, courageous and uplifting human story.'

I read a comment on line somebody suggesting a first line for the book. 'Last Night I Dreamt I Went to Frog Cottage Again' I thought that was quite good. Grin

@Oldbutstillgotit

I doubt if M will criticise her ex husband - the floodgates might open ! To be honest I am amazed he hasn’t “ told his truth” but maybe he is too classy .
What a strange comment. Her ex recently got married to an heiress. I suppose he is moved on a long time ago, that goes the same for her ex boyfriends I suppose.

Do you go around following your ex and talking about them ? Does you DH?

Mummy194 · 21/07/2021 10:31

A lot of hand wringing about a book that has not come out yet.

Did people froth so much when others have written books, like presidents etc. (who all deal with high profile people), never heard anyone say they are breaching others privacy.

As always, with this couple, they are constantly admonished for what other people do with no problem.

CallmeHendricks · 21/07/2021 10:32

"Do you go around following your ex and talking about them?"

Why so strange? Isn't that exactly what everyone on this thread is effectively doing, yourself included?

CallmeHendricks · 21/07/2021 10:33

"As always, with this couple, they are constantly admonished for what other people do with no problem."

I really can't believe that you seriously can't see the difference here.

Presidents have achieved something.

smilesy · 21/07/2021 10:44

I think what many people are objecting to is that, unlike Presidents who have stories to recount about international relations and incidents and so forth, Harry doesn’t really have anything of substance to say that won’t involve breaching the privacy of his family and other people that he has associated with. As I posted previously, the ghost writer involved in Harry’s book has a special interest in father-son relationships, so this may well be the angle that it is approached from 🤷‍♀️

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/07/2021 10:50

If this thing about the book is true at all (and I'm still hoping it's not) who is the ghost writer supposed to be?

I wondered about the dreaded Scobie - after all they use him for plenty else - which would at least guarantee a laugh at the purple prose

Gosh I read some of the book and the writing was shockingly bad.

He is using a ghost writer J R Moehringer who is an excellent author. Would recommend reading some of his books.

Says it all about you, if you think Harry is your ex.

Meant read some of Finding Freedom written by Scobie.

Would love an option to edit posts!

The ghost writer has won a Pulitzer Prize so I'd imagine he's a better writer than Scobie!

Perhaps it's this kind of thinking, that Harry has not done anything that he needs to write about he has done. After all, the rags have not been reporting about his projects.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/07/2021 11:04

Ah, thanks Madasahatter; I've just looked him up and it seems he's hot on biographies about those (including himself) with daddy issues

Guess it could be time for Charles to start hiding behind the sofa then ... not that he'd have any room to talk after the job he did on his own parents via Dimbleby

Furries · 21/07/2021 11:04

Thanks to MN, the word frothing has been added to my list of words that I won’t use anymore. Every time I see someone use it (and it’s been used a lot on another board), all I can picture is that the person who is typing it is also frothing!

Maireas · 21/07/2021 11:07

"frothing" on here is often a synonym for "people disagree with me"

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/07/2021 11:08

Yes I know Smile Call me a coward, but the closest I came to that horror was extracts online, and I'm still trying to get over "the birds who looked as if their tails had been dipped in paint pots, serenading Meghan in her yoga garden"

Someone please pass the bucket ...

You may as well add 'whinging' and 'moaning' on that list.
HoppingPavlova · 21/07/2021 11:25

Presidents tend to write about their achievements, the strategy, thinking and beliefs around various policies whilst they were in office, how they fought their way up through the ranks in US politics and so on. They may throw in a few lines here and there about the ex-presidential dog to add to the ‘human’ factor.

Harry, in contrast, has achieved pretty much jack and anything that he has was only because of the position he was born into and what he was handed. I daresay this book will be another way to repeat ‘his truths’ which is another way of saying ‘I am very spoilt, not that bright, having a tantrum, wife wants us to stay in the limelight and has made me do this while working it so I think it’s my idea, and same wife is also prompting me to twist the way I see everything and view it through a lens of everyone wronging me since the second I was born’. In other words it will be a huge load of bollocks.

IcedPurple · 21/07/2021 11:27

I would bet that he could have made things easier for Meghan and Harry if he had taken them under his wing a bit more and this situation would not have got as out of hand as it has.

The reality is that Harry rushed into marriage with a woman he barely knew - just a year of long-distance dating, basically an extended holiday romance - and who had no experience of life in Britain, let alone life in the royal family. I don't think that's Charles' responsibility. William supposedly told him to take his time with the relationship, but Harry took that as an insult.

Meghan had a whole team of people whose job was to 'take her under their wing' What more did they need? They are middle aged adults, not children.

Thank you for posting that peach of a line. If I had any lingering thought about reading the book, they have now been well and truly buried!
Marmaladeagain · 21/07/2021 11:46

Yes the difference is he has nothing except tabloid fodder to offer. He has done nothing of substance and is only able to offer his observations on difficult decisions other people may have had to make.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t have the sense to understand some decisions no-one wants to make, but someone has to take responsibility.

Any time in the army will be out of bounds and I wonder how former girlfriends are feeling wondering what he will say. What about the casual girlfriends - they will have right to sell their stories on him once he has invaded his own privacy by selling his ‘true’ life story in his own words. It is up for contradiction by all then.

EleanorOlephantisjustfine · 21/07/2021 11:53

@BlueSurfer

Didn’t he and Meghan say that the OW interview would be their final word and they were moving on thereafter?
I don’t think they can help themselves. I wouldn’t be surprised if Harry never saw his family again. That said they seem to be stuck in victim mode and don’t seem to think they have done anything wrong.

Of course we only know what we are told by whoever is leaking from the Palace and Harry and Meghan’s mate Omid. I love to know what’s going on.

livingwitheds1984 · 21/07/2021 12:04

Harry's done nothing wrong. Why shouldn't he write a memoir? If you don't like it just don't read it.

If the royal family are so worried about their behaviour being outed then maybe they should apologise and try to make amends for bullying Meghan and tolerating racism, rather than continue trying to smear her and Harry in the press all the time.

The royals are vile and anyone who brings them down a peg is a hero in my eyes.
