Harry to sue BBC

I just read Harry is going to sue the BBC for announcing the Queen wasn't consulted over the name Lilibet. They said she was told of their plans . Maybe told isnt quite the same as consulted. When is this all going to end. Seems to be getting worse instead of improving.

No need to explain it to me. Rather than pick the whole thing to pieces, I chose the most ridiculous thing.... the waffle maker.

Of course the royal aides are vexed, they can't control the narrative, H&M aren't under the PR machine any more. And Harry saying 'shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honor. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name' is quite normal to me. Why can't he say that.

Roussette · 09/06/2021 20:09

Just in case you think I'm confused Ricki... that was a reply to you. 😂

RickiTarr · 09/06/2021 20:10

😂 No I think they were pretty similar @smilesy

dorangme · 09/06/2021 20:11

Stop focussing on the blessed waffle maker and look at the whole picture

I'm can only see the bigger picture, even if they are what people say: narcissistic, liars, spoilt etc etc. So what? there are dictators, pedophiles & murderers out there. But this he said, she said is what the country is obsessed with.

No that’s not really it. Try reading the article and don’t get sidetracked by waffle irons.
Roussette · 09/06/2021 20:12

smilesy my reply to Ricki answers your post too. Blessed waffle maker!

Roussette · 09/06/2021 20:13

Ricki I read the article thanks.

You have a take on it. I have a take on it.

Roussette · 09/06/2021 20:14

Oh and... it was a 'waffle maker'. Very different to a waffle iron 😂

smilesy · 09/06/2021 20:14

@LivingInThe80s. I read many different news sources. It just so happens that the Telegraph has some interesting articles on this subject at the moment. I never said they had been briefed. I don’t believe unquestioningly everything I read but I did realise when I read this that it is indeed true that HaM do, in fact, mention only their interactions with the Queen and go out of their way to praise her and try to make her separate from the rest of the family (eg with the racism claim). That is what interested me about this.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 09/06/2021 20:16

If I remember James asked H about HM and it lead to the birthday present it was around a role play and conversation about having tea with the queen. And her calling to ask Meghan what A wanted for his birthdays and she said waffle
Maker. I watched it as I quite like James C - but not enough to go back and check the conversation of who said what and when. So H didn't jump on the bus and start talking about the Queen - it was very relaxed JC style and JC led while I thought H was a bit shy until they got to the assault course then he seemed
More in his element. Yes I watched it and it was fun! Smile

Well the interesting story today is Harry a) using the biographer he definitely didn’t cooperate with on the FF book as an unofficial spokesman, & b) threatening the BBC with legal action for something a senior Buckingham Palace source did.

So it’s a very interesting story for anyone interested in media, communications or current affairs. These are the days we get some interesting entertainment out of the RF.

CallmeHendricks · 09/06/2021 20:17

Why the hell is anyone giving credence to what Omid bloody Scobie says, fgs? He's been quoted today as being a "close friend" of the Sussexes, when last I heard they were flat-out denying they had anything to do with him when they were trying to distance themselves from his book about them.
So which is it?
I'd bet on the Palace any day over him.

Roussette · 09/06/2021 20:17

Thanks Preparation that was my memory too.

Yes hugely, they’re nothing like each other at all.

You’re repeatedly missing any salient point at all for a bet? Or is this the way you always think?

Bizarre and really quite fascinating, isn’t it? Smile

I definitely think it's interesting how the British public are reacting to all this "entertainment". I'm a 2nd gen immigrant so don't really have the inbuilt deference.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 09/06/2021 20:22

@VeilofWinterFog

It feels like they are trolling the RF now. Of all the names they could have chosen this is probably the only one that would cause controversy or hurt to the family- maybe apart from 'Wallis'.

There is a sentimentality and 'ownership' to a nickname, especially such an intimate and historic one such as this, that does not exist within a given name itself. It is so deeply personal. A family nickname is wonderful gift and intimately bound with someone's history and identity. There is unique bond between the giver and recipient.

To take that name, particularly given the current family dynamic and use it as your child's given name is very provocative. They must know this. Then to attempt to copyright the name is just beyond. If feels like theft.

I think there is a lot of upset within the RF that has led to this statement to the BBC from a 'senior official'.

It will be very interesting to see if there is any official word from the Palace itself.

Not read the whole thread, will carry on reading. But this is also how I feel.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/06/2021 20:23

They exchanged vows together in front of the ABOfC prior to the wedding

And we know this - how exactly?
If memory serves, the Archbishop said he had some "personal and pastoral meetings" with the couple prior to the wedding, but that he "won’t say what happened at any other meetings"

CauliflowerCheese30 · 09/06/2021 20:24

Isn't he updating the book also? Or putting new things in it.

Oh it’s better if you’re a republican. I don’t think it would be any fun at all if you felt deferential.
Roussette · 09/06/2021 20:26

Don't take it so personally Ricki it was a joke, hence the laughing emoji.

A waffle iron you put on a hob. I used to have a toastie iron. Great it was. Lost it in a house move.

They’re the same thing. But don’t tell the PP who thinks this is the crux of the day’s events and a huge gotcha. Wink

smilesy · 09/06/2021 20:28

@PreparationPreparationPrep. Okay… a waffle iron is a bit like a very large pair of fire tongs with a waffle pattern at the end. You put the mixture inside and hold it over a fire. A waffle makers is a modern machine version to make waffle with. My grandma had one that she had rescued from the neighbouring farm (a waffle iron that is) and it ended up hanging up with lots of other curios in my parents porch. Now that’s enough waffle for this thread 😂
