Harry and Megan have just announced their new baby's name.

What's everyone's thoughts?

OP posts:

@Terzani

Both are nice names. Lilibet, why not? Only that both names are from the paternal family and none from the maternal one. Isn’t there any worthy female relative or ancestor among the Raglands and the Markles? Especially since Meghan is a feminist and describes Harry as a feminist too.
I doubt it would have had quite the impact they were looking for tbh. Least it keeps them in the head lines for a bit hey?
dorangme · 06/06/2021 19:06

When they are sticking the knife in, they don't use a kitchen knife, they use a massive samurai sword.

By using the same name?

PreservativeFree · 06/06/2021 19:08

I generally have no interest at all in the Royals but I saw the thread title and thought "that's nice".

Armi · 06/06/2021 19:08

I think the whole situation is really peculiar. The name thing strikes me as being totally kiss-ass and inappropriate, given the recent comments from both of them about how hateful the whole institution is. Are they trying to imply that they still have a marvellous relationship with the Queen, despite what has been going on? They are just monumentally odd.

Babies being born is always good news, however.

Roussette · 06/06/2021 19:08

From memory, I don't think that Harry had to ask the Queen's permission to name his children, he was too far down the line of succession when Archie was born

I thought the opposite. All members of the RF had to run the names past the Queen in advance. But what do I know.

Prince Philip used to call the Queen 'cabbage'

dorangme · 06/06/2021 19:08

Doriana Elizabeth.

Sorted.

TheMoth has spoken, why you think your name choice is more valid than the parents choice is intriguing.

TooOldandTired · 06/06/2021 19:09

I think it would have been better just to call her Lili if that is what they intend to call her and she still would have been named after the queen. Lili Diana is lovely. Good luck to them and everyone else who has had a baby today.

I was referring to the OW interview. They don't just have a family row, they go on international television and announce it.

So both of Diana Spencer's granddaughters are called Elizabeth Diana in some sort of capacity then?

I think Lilibet is way too cutesy;they could have gone for Lily,Betty or Lily-Beth.

TooOldandTired · 06/06/2021 19:10

I also think it would have been lovely if she had been named after Meghan's mum although I guess Doria Diana doesn't work too well.

BreakingtheIce · 06/06/2021 19:10

I would love to know what the Queen thinks about her private pet name being used by a couple who have totally embarrassed the whole family and brought the RF into disrepute.

SueSaid · 06/06/2021 19:10

Lovely name. Finally showing some respect and courtesy to the person who has given them such a platform and great privilege.

TuvoknotSpock · 06/06/2021 19:11

Lovely name. Lilibet is very pretty

ApplyWithin · 06/06/2021 19:11

It’s also such an invasion of the Queen’s privacy. Yes, I know we all know her immediate family called her Lilibet but it was very much a pet name only used by her closest loved ones. To me it is a gross assumption of intimacy to appropriate it for their child.

Lily Diana on its own perfectly lovely name.

dorangme · 06/06/2021 19:11

Buckingham Palace have announced that the RF are delighted.

Upthread a poster said the lack of comment by BP was a sign of their feelings. So we should take the above as all is well & no need to be outraged for the Queen.

thenewduchessofhastings · 06/06/2021 19:11

Or Eliza

MagicSummer · 06/06/2021 19:11

Perhaps 'Thomasina' would have gone some way to repairing the rift with her father?

Marguerite2000 · 06/06/2021 19:11

@dorangme

Exactly. The insular ignorance of UK posters is extraordinary.

This is always evident on the baby name boards

Why would British posters know every unusual name used in America? Names usually become well known via celebrities/public figures, and there don't seem to be any very well known ones named Lilibet.

Has Andrew used the pet name?

BreakingtheIce · 06/06/2021 19:12

Eliza or Lily would have been better.

DateLoaf · 06/06/2021 19:12

I have to be honest I wonder how HMQ must feel about this. It’s her lifelong private family nickname based on a cute little childhood thing, not a real name. Her late parents and her late husband called her it. Her grandkids like Harry presumably just call her granny. It feels off key to make her private life nickname into a very public formal first name for one of the great-grandchildren, somehow. The Queen’s private life from what we know of it, probably being a very precious commodity to her.

A tribute to the Queen would have been to use her actual name, Elizabeth, which carries the nice religious meaning, rather than to use her private life name. Diana is a lovely choice as a middle name. It would have been nice to use Doria’s name or give a nod to her in the names as well though. I wish the whole family all the best and I’m sure soon it will feel very normal and nice as a name, as all babies’ names come to do.

SnottyLottie · 06/06/2021 19:12

I must admit I do feel kind of bad for Doria. Meghan is obviously very close to her mother and from everything I’ve seen about her she seems like a very warm, loving woman and is very classy (unlike the rest of the Markles). Why don’t they honour her in the baby’s name?

scully29 · 06/06/2021 19:13

Its a beautiful name!!

@BreakingtheIce Wow, way to blame the victim. The RF themselves have totally embarrassed themselves and brought themselves in disrepute. But lets do blame the whistleblowers. Hmm
