The royal family

To be shocked at some RF members turning their back?

It has been reported that some Royal Family members literally turned their back on Prince Harry at Prince Philip's funeral and refused to even acknowledge him.
I have had extended family members behave badly and are in no hurry to be friendly. But I think this is appalling behaviour. I would never do that and especially not at a funeral.
It reminds me of that video being shared where William and Kate totally snub and ignore Harry and Meghan.
It is just so rude and awful.

I’m not sure why the private vows would matter most. Isn’t the point of getting married to share your vows with friends and family? Otherwise, why would anyone have a big wedding? If they had said that they wanted a private wedding, I’m sure everyone would have been happy for them as we have often said. Why the need to be secretive about it and then share this secret out of the blue? It did come across as sticking two fingers up at all the well wishers and all the wedding guests.

Yes, the queen was hardly talking them in to a huge wedding when meghan had been married before. She did not even attend charl3s 2nd wedding.

She didn't attend the civil ceremony, but did attend the Blessing and held a reception for them. I'm sure that for her the church service was the most important element and it was certainly the most public element.

I agree with everything you said. I just wondered if that is what Meghan meant, that the private vows meant more to them.
castemary · 10/05/2021 16:47

No the expectation was for a public wedding. This was reported in the press at the time.
The Royals obviously do not have much choice over the wedding they want. Maybe Kate and William wanted a wild west themed wedding? But it would never have happened.

smilesy · 10/05/2021 17:02

@Andylion yes I think that is what she meant. I was just wondering why. I mean, were the vows different to the ones they made in public? I can’t imagine they could have called up the Archbishop of Canterbury to come and listen to them reading poetry to each other or whatever. He’s not really their personal priest. He may have discussed their vows with them or something but I can’t imagine him going off piste like that. I know M said they had some vows framed that they had said but in front of Justin Welby? Really? His job is to perform a CofE ceremony according to Christian values, not listen to some schmaltzy romantic stuff. I don’t imagine it would have been a ceremony of any sort. He wouldn’t have been happy if they said that they wanted to do that surely as it would undermine the actual ceremony. I may be being too cynical but it just seems a bit “off” to me.

Lauren15 · 10/05/2021 17:15

Honestly I wish it was possible to ignore M and H. I looked at my online news this morning - there was a story about M making some donation. I didn’t click on it but I saw the headline. Then at the supermarket, her face was on the front pages of several newspapers. They put themselves out there, the mass media report on it and unless you live under a rock, you’ll see and hear about them. I wish they’d just go away and live private lives.

nevertrustaherdofcows · 10/05/2021 17:18

Can I just say that my taxes and I would totally be behind any royal wanting a wild west themed wedding ...?

smilesy · 10/05/2021 17:21

@nevertrustaherdofcows 😂

Thanks to all who answered about the commonwealth ceremony. I watched a bit on Youtueb, it took place in 9th March last year and Charles wasn't doing handshakes due to COVID - it was SO strange watching people in a huge crowd with no masks when COVID was rampant!

Anyway I just watched the clip of Meghan saying they got married 3 days before the wedding. Harry does a very awkward thing in that he sings "just the three of us" in the style of the "just the two of us" song. That's EXACTLY the kind of weird thing I do in a massively awkward situation and it made me chuckle Grin

I, Hazza, do promise to eat your burgers for ever more as long as you wear that same outfit and write books about seats. I will remain forever foofstruck and dribble helplessly in your presence.

I Meggi will always overlook your choice in party attire and will not resent you being born second for much longer. I will feature chickens at every opportunity and will forgive you if you act like a cockerel

I will commission a coin for our new country in order that they can celebrate our arrival. It will replace the currency eventually because we are bloody well going to be important somewhere.

JW. Amen.

All. Just the three of us - we can make it UP if we try 🎶

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 10/05/2021 17:53

@SheldonesqueTheBstard that is GENIUSGrin

Depends who they are; after all it worked for Anne the second time round

Granted Charles and William as future kings would be expected to have big do's, but for the rest it's probably more to do with royal PR than anything else - after all they're not paying the lino's share of the costs, so they get the ooooohs and aaaaahs and someone else pays

Though with what happens to so many royal marriages, it's a shame they bothered ...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/05/2021 18:59

Lino's share??? LION'S share ... Blush

Lauren15 · 10/05/2021 19:48

After watching that clip, I don’t think even OW bought the backyard wedding story.

Theunamedcat · 10/05/2021 19:53

I dont think she did either, but it seems very privileged to just call the archbishop of Canterbury for a quick illegal wedding in the garden my eyebrows were a bit high by this point
FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 10/05/2021 20:02

I think I'm gonna start singing "juuuust the three of us" every time someone in my company is telling porkies and I don't feel I can speak up.

I mean Harry must have been thinking at that point "um, no we didn't...just look at the chickens...look at the chickens and hope she stops talking"

CallmeHendricks · 10/05/2021 20:10

See, most of us, if our other halves came out with that sort of bullshit, would call them out on it and say, "Whaaat? What on earth are you talking about? No, we didn't."
But I suppose Harry didn't feel he could. For all sorts of reasons.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 10/05/2021 20:11

@CallmeHendricks well no it would break the "its us against the world, we never so much as raise our voices" romantic persona they're trying to create

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 10/05/2021 20:13

I had the shiniest arse in Christendom that night.

My eyebrows raised that much they slid over the back of my head and hit the lower cheeks like hairy window wipers.

Although, to be fair, it was mostly at the one interviewing with the faux shock and wow faces.

Shocked my great big shiny harris...

If I don’t sing ‘just the three of us’ it’ll be a frantic ‘cut to the CHICKENS’ if someone is digging themselves a hole.

@fiheka

Okay I think some of you are nastier than me. I would say hello, minimal stuff, then talk to someone else. I am not expecting them to be the best of friends. But physically turning your back and ignoring a family member is very harsh.
Were you there?

The family were together for private prayers prior to the TV coverage and this was private. So there is no evidence of what went on.
