The royal family

To be shocked at some RF members turning their back?

It has been reported that some Royal Family members literally turned their back on Prince Harry at Prince Philip's funeral and refused to even acknowledge him.
I have had extended family members behave badly and are in no hurry to be friendly. But I think this is appalling behaviour. I would never do that and especially not at a funeral.
It reminds me of that video being shared where William and Kate totally snub and ignore Harry and Meghan.
It is just so rude and awful.

Well they would be pretty low ATM no one's been allowed anywhere much recently. I'm not sure tbh, I will concede to your point as it's not really that relevant IMO.

I'm sorry I don't recall slagging you off for posting anything. Neither do I recall saying people shouldn't talk about the RF here or anywhere else???

You posted an opinion that I disagree with, there's nothing personal about it at all???

saraclara · 06/05/2021 23:21

OP:
I think constantly reading leaked untrue stories about yourselves and your wife must have been hard for Harry and Meghan.

The irony is off the charts.

Ontheblink · 06/05/2021 23:21

MN vipers!!😂, that really made me lol. Yes all of the mumsnetters who hate M&H for speaking out against racism, it’s definitely a fitting name.

Marmaladeagain · 06/05/2021 23:23

You do realise William was working in the RAF for 15 years - helicopter rescue?

He didn't retire from that too long ago really and has been gradually moving into royal duties, a job you don't generally retire from and takes time to learn the ropes for.

Taking time to get involved and learning on the job and think about how you will approach things sounds very sensible to most people.

Unlike some we could mention who won't listen to advice and charge in like a bull in a china shop thinking it's a doddle of a job.... and going to "shake it all up" along the way.

m0therofdragons · 06/05/2021 23:24

A quick google shows that in 2018 Prince William did just under 250 official engagements and that included visiting 11 foreign countries.
Charles,Anne and Edward did 450-550 engagements (they don’t have the balance of young children and are one generation above).

What would you say was a reasonable number of engagements?

m0therofdragons · 06/05/2021 23:26

Oh yes and William worked for search and rescue. That probably doesn’t fit your “lazy” story though.

fiheka · 06/05/2021 23:28

@amusedtodeath1 various people were suggesting I should get a life for talking about the RF.

Don't you mean being snide about W&K?

amusedtodeath1 · 06/05/2021 23:31

Oh I see, the way you wrote that made it seem like you were talking to me personally. I have no problems with you giving your opinion.

fiheka · 06/05/2021 23:31

@motherofdragon William in 2018 worked for about 125 days. So an average of 2 and a half days a week. So he basically works part-time.

fiheka · 06/05/2021 23:32

@amusedtodeath1 no sorry it was not aimed at you personally.

'The man who runs the costume shop said William asked for a zulu costume but he did not have one, so instead he hired a "native" costume with a black leotard and leopard skins (I presume fake).'

It's like an episode of Mr Benn! 😄

fiheka · 06/05/2021 23:33

Yes I agree! Grin

Do you have this info to hand? As in do you have a folder you keep tidbits like this in to do a gotcha?.
.

Marmaladeagain · 06/05/2021 23:35

so do you only count working days if someone's hand is being shaken? Could there be any hours spent on behind the scenes work, or do you think it is only engagements?

Did you realise he was in the RAF, you don't seem to mention anything about that when you're dismissing William's working life.

I think he retired around 2017, didn't he? Looked at wiki and says in 2015 he started full-time at East England ambulance - so 2018, would potentially be first full on full-time royal.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_William,_Duke_of_Cambridge
Seems fair enough to me....

Marmaladeagain · 06/05/2021 23:37

I think maybe look back at Harry's working life - he retired quite a long time ago from the army .... do you have that info to hand, what Harry was up each year on appointments since he left the army? Be interesting to compare maybe, might give bit more perspective on each one's work ethics....

Sallyandsam · 06/05/2021 23:38

My proof is that William said we are not a racist family. That is not true. Princess Michael is racist. If William does not realise that then yes he does not understand racism.

GrinGrin You do realise that Princess Michael of Kent is the wife of Prince William’s second cousin twice removed?

Rather clutching at straws to suggest that a distant cousin by marriage typifies the views of the royal family Grin Grin.

pinkmagnolias · 06/05/2021 23:39

The W&K PR is in full cycle mode and it’s working judging by this thread.

It was said said M&H would never leave. Harry wouldn’t leave his lifestyle. Meghan married only to live with the RF. They left and the Daily Mail readers are seething. It’s funny to watch from the outside.

amusedtodeath1 · 06/05/2021 23:40

I do think William has taken a very sensible long term view of his life and his future responsibilities. He's taken his time in most things and I think, so far, it's served him well.

Harry has always been reported to be more outgoing and less cautious than his big brother.

I know it's stupid and it might be because it's late but it does make me feel a bit sad, the rift between William and Harry especially. I feel sad for the Queen too.

There's quite a few of them I'd quite like to talk some sense into.

SteveArnottsCodeine · 06/05/2021 23:40

The royal family are clearly really quite abusive. That’s been clear since Diana. Prince Harry is well out of it and I hope he can have a better and more fulfilling life in the US away from their nonsense. Good for him for calling them out and shame on them for ever letting it get this far.

PurpleRainDancer · 06/05/2021 23:42

@Lisa52

I think it pales into insignificance when you look at the way Harry has treated his family recently. I think turning their backs is showing great self-control. I'm not sure I would be so dignified in the same circumstances.
This

Give your head a wobble OP

CatherineMorland · 06/05/2021 23:42

anodyne Kate and William who clearly are not in love, but will stick together because they must.

Wow OP, aren’t you a peach?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/05/2021 23:45

I don't really see it as them stirring, it's their truth

I've often wondered where this rather odd phrase came from and what it means - surely "truth" is an objective thing and neither theirs, mine or anyone else's?

Someone can have their own ^perspective" but not their own truth, so presumably it must mean whatever nonsense they want to spout unchallenged?

amusedtodeath1 · 06/05/2021 23:45

PR my arse Wink.

I can see quite clearly a couple trashing family on a TV show and the rest of them staying silent. You don't need PR to look good in the public eye compared to that interview. Christ, they really should pay H&H because they've made them look so good by comparison.

mermaidsariel · 06/05/2021 23:46

@fiheka

Okay I think some of you are nastier than me. I would say hello, minimal stuff, then talk to someone else. I am not expecting them to be the best of friends. But physically turning your back and ignoring a family member is very harsh.
Were you there? How do you know they ‘literally turned their backs’? Harry has treated his family appallingly so if he received some cold and curt treatment it’s what he deserves. Instead what I saw was W and K chatting amicably to him on the way back. Did you not see that?
