Yes it's his birthday but you wouldn't know it. Not one mention jn the media about it and yet we were subjected to plenty of charlotte and her recent birthday. Funny that.

Another one her who did a double take seeing all those balloons. Regardless of wether it's Archie or not my first thought is my own grandchildren at that age invariably let go of a balloon so easily and thought I hoped they have secured them. And that I wished they hadn't used that particular image.Because generally I hate balloons now and the damage they do.I litter pick every day and like a PP want balloon releases banned. They don't want to show his face but personally a rear view of him feeding his rescue hens or anything else in their lovely 'backyard' would have surely fitted their carefully curated image as enviromentalists. But then as I say it's the balloons I saw over and above Archie.

EdithWeston · 07/05/2021 07:15

I expect that if attending an eventnejere helium balloons are there, you just have to make the best of it.

Choosing them yourself is fine for those who don't care much about the environment (use of helium, non-biodegradable single use plastics, and the risk of release). Choosing them and promoting them in a pic you know will be widely re-published is a deliberate act.

I took it to mean that the environment is not going to be part of their portfolio of interests after all.

Roussette · 07/05/2021 07:23

All that from a photo of a little boy on his 2nd birthday... blimey! They're going to destory the planet!

It could just be photoshopped for all we know! Next year, I think he should be sat in a field on his own... just in case there's anything to criticise!

Mummy194 · 07/05/2021 07:25

How on earth did you know they are not recyclable or that they blew away !

Yes, it's an odd choice, for environmental campaigners - bit like vegans posing with a bacon sandwich. One lapse isn't going to end their veganism, but it's a curious thing to choose.

That's why my assumption is the the environment is dropping out if their portfolio, because I don't see how it fits together otherwise.

And that's fine - they choose the causes they espouse, and it doesnt have to be a fixed set

EdithWeston · 07/05/2021 07:33

@Mummy194

They're not recyclable because it's inherent in the way that kind of balloon is made.

I do not know that they blew away, which is why I mentioned only the risk that they could. Though I dare say they tied them in to him so he couldn't let go. But I can't prove that either.
So settled for risk - you can mitigate the chance of that risk happening, but if by mischance it does occur, the consequences can be severe

Roussette · 07/05/2021 07:34

A little boy is holding balloons which means that Harry and Meghan are now dropping any environmental issues from anything they do in the future.

Rightio.... Hmm
They should be covered in woad and drinking from streams quite obviously!

I am glad that people in my life don't make such ridiculous assumptions about me.

Lol. and dress him up in leaves and plants.
EdithWeston · 07/05/2021 07:37

I think you're wildly over interpreting what I actually wrote, and the reasons I gave.

No, I don't think any of those things you have just suggested

Mummy194 · 07/05/2021 07:37

Sorry, post @Roussette

Roussette · 07/05/2021 07:41

No I haven't.
You have stated they will be dropping the environment out of their 'portfolio'.
Because of a picture of their little boy on his 2nd birthday.

I think it's you wildly over interpreting, not me!

BlackCatShadow · 07/05/2021 07:42

i suspect it was trying to be Winnie the Pooh whimsical and they never really considered the environmental aspect. it's still a cute photo.

Anyway, Mummy194 and Roussette are here to pour scorn over anyone who doesn't fawn all over Meghan, so I'm out. I'm sure the lad had a lovely birthday.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 07/05/2021 07:43

I took it to mean that the environment is not going to be part of their portfolio of interests after all.

Yes, it seems the local wildlife doesn't write cheques for millions of dollars that buy private jet use.

EdithWeston · 07/05/2021 07:46

I knew I can't write to the standard required on MN!

I said (bold added for emphasis)

"That's why my assumption is the the environment is dropping out if their portfolio...."

and

"I took it to mean that the environment is not going to be part of their portfolio of interests after all"

I have not at any point said they will be doing so.

And am definitely open to other suggestions on how to square choosing an environmental anathema for a high profile picture.

Roussette · 07/05/2021 07:58

Anyway, Mummy194 and Roussette are here to pour scorn over anyone who doesn't fawn all over Meghan

Pouring scorn? No, I'm just having a bit of a laugh at the constant criticisms. There is no way on god's earth I could make an assumption that they are dropping environmental issues from their portfolio because their little boy is holding balloons. Such a stretch!

There is absolutely nothing they can do that is right for some. That is the bottom line.

lollipoprainbow · 07/05/2021 09:07

@Roussette I'm inclined to agree, whatever they do is pulled apart ! Yet William and Kate merrily do what they like and get praised to the hilt, their PR machine is jn massive overdrive at the moment. Can you imagine if M and H set up their own you tube channel.......

OP posts:
Roussette · 07/05/2021 09:28

@lollipoprainbow
I know!

The Youtube channel... fine, do it, the RF needs a massive boost at the moment because unquestionable affection for them is waning a lot. But let's not have a meltdown because H&M are doing something ^to support themselves and not live off the taxpayer*.

Personally, I can't understand why Charles isn't selling himself more to the public because he's next in line, but I suppose footage of him pottering about in the garden of Highgrove is not so attractive. And he's done a video of that anyway.

A FIELD?! A field @Roussette - and disturb all the habitats of mini beasts? No, that would be abominably selfish. Far better to just plonk the boy in a puddle in the middle of nowhere
Roussette · 07/05/2021 09:51

I am worried about the dandelions, to be sure.

Grin
FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 07/05/2021 09:55

Well indeed!

I notice no one has pulled me up on my declaration of my buying a balloon arch. It's almost like it's less about caring about the impact of the environment and more about needlessly sticking the boot in.

I am NOT a H&M fan (I especially dislike Harry) - but I like to think my reasons are based on good arguments and concerns and less about nit picking how they celebrate their child's birthday. I also can't get too upset about the private jet thing. I do genuinely believe that they are concerned for their personal safety (and for good reason when they've received death threats) so I believe that's about ensuring they're Comfort and safety rather than thinking they're too good to sit with plebs.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 07/05/2021 09:55

*their Blush

Roussette · 07/05/2021 10:01

Frangipani

Exactly. You and I might be apart on our views of H&M but sometimes common sense has to be applied to all of this, otherwise it's just petty bashing with no discussion.

I am going to be that annoying poster who looks at every picture that comes out from them and predicts what the criticism will be! And betcha, I'll get it right!

JingsMahBucket · 07/05/2021 10:09

@Roussette @Mummy194 you’re cracking me up this early in the morning 😂

Samcro · 07/05/2021 10:11

shock horror other small members of the RF like balloons..
send them to the tower.

Happy birthday Archie

@Roussette you should open a Pools really

10/1 - criticism of Archie's trousers
3/1 - criticism of use of balloons
4/1 - saying Harry sounds less English than he did before

You'd make a killing 🤣
