Yes it's his birthday but you wouldn't know it. Not one mention jn the media about it and yet we were subjected to plenty of charlotte and her recent birthday. Funny that.

I highly doubt one photo will reverse the good work they have done. They have a little boy, little boys love balloons and I trust that two environmentally conscious people would dispose of the balloons responsibly. This is just nit picking

Itreallyistimetochangethings · 06/05/2021 21:38

@ChardonnaysPetDragon - are you being serious??Hmm

enjoysun · 06/05/2021 21:38

Jesus Mary and Joseph and the wee donkey. I'm not a massive fan of them, but now there are comments about the balloons. These guys can't do right for doing wrong. Give them a break!

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/05/2021 21:41

I have said a number of times in the past that the arbitrary H&M hate just isn't that prevalent on MN - then someone goes and claims that their 2yo having balloons will single handed my melt the polar ice caps. I hate being proven wrong

BTW you'll hate me, DD'a 9th birthday is coming up and I've ordered a balloon arch for her party. May as well just go and strangle a rabbit ey?

Roussette · 06/05/2021 21:42

@FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop

I don't agree. These famous people raise awareness. Do we ask all the celebs who do CINeed how much they've donated? What about SUTC that's been on... shall we ask them too? They do Bake Off, must make sure they divulge what they;ve donated before they bake those cakes!

That is nitpicking. Along with the balloons.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/05/2021 21:54

@Roussette well I don't personally ask them because I don't know any of them but I've always wondered yes - when millionaires preach to the every day man that they need to donate money it's absolutely fine to wonder "well hang on, millionaire, why don't you do it if you care so much?". My opinions on this predated H&M by about 20 years. Not nitpicking, a valid question around philanthropy

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/05/2021 21:57

@ChardonnaysPetDragon - are you being serious?

Yes. This is a very famous couple who are trying their hardest to be humanitarians. They are sending the wrong message which will be copied by millions.

It's wrong and sad.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/05/2021 21:58

Yes, millions of people will go out and release balloons into the air because Archie had a bunch of balloons on his 2nd picture. That is definitely something that will definitely happen

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/05/2021 21:59

I trust that two environmentally conscious people would dispose of the balloons responsibly.

Firstly, you cannot possibly know that. Secondly, are you just as certain that the ones who will follow their example will be just as conscious?

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/05/2021 22:00

@ChardonnaysPetDragon I reckon I could count on one hand the amount of people who will "follow suit" and get balloons for no good reason because of this photo

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/05/2021 22:00

You are trying to minimise this and I understand your motives.

However, the message they send is wrong and they ought to know better than this.

Samcro · 06/05/2021 22:02

Bloody hell, no wonder they walked away.

Roussette · 06/05/2021 22:07

@FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop
glad to hear you're not just picking on H&M for this pressing need to know about how much all these people donate.

But we all know if H&M said they donated $$$$ the posts would say, look at them showing off about what they've donated.
I've seen it on here with the donations they have made. The roof on the Texas womens shelter, SmartWorks etc... all the posters who don't like them said how much they were looking for attention, we don't want to know etc.

Bottom line. They can't win if they do. Or if they don't.

I've seen it all before on these threads.

Roussette · 06/05/2021 22:08

Bloody hell, no wonder they walked away

Ain't that the truth.

Roussette · 06/05/2021 22:10

Chardonnary

Would a bouncy castle be suitable for you? Or is that dangerous and they are sending the wrong message?

What about facepaints? Some children are allergic to facepaints... how irresponsible of them?

There is nothing they can do that will be accepted by some.

Oh do tell me what my motives are please. Do you think I am the owner founder of a multi million pound balloon company?
FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/05/2021 22:20

@Roussette you're probably right. They can't even get balloons to celebrate their child's birthday without coming under fire. Most odd.

Absolutely not!

Archie must stay in his room and only play with recycled-from-nappies wooden toys and wear rags, and eat foraged berries lest he tears a hole in the ozone layer with his tiny little hands

Roussette · 06/05/2021 22:25

Stop it, you're making me 🤣😁😂

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/05/2021 22:30

I’m not sure why it’s so difficult to understand why balloons are dangerous for wildlife and why it’s so important to send the message that they are, indeed, dangerous.

But it does seem that some posters do struggle with it.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/05/2021 22:32

@ChardonnaysPetDragon no one is struggling wth that concept. It's quite well known that helium balloons can be damaging.
However the point is

  1. It's a weird assumption to think the balloons were let loft
  2. An even weirder assumption to say that millions of people will know be letting balloons off willy nilly because of that one picture.

Sometimes people on the public eye are allowed to not be perfect

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/05/2021 22:32

*let off

megletthesecond · 06/05/2021 22:39

The first thing I thought was "those balloons had better not be released". I'm trying to get our council to ban balloon litter releases.

BlackCatShadow · 06/05/2021 22:59

When I saw the photo of the balloons, i knew there'd be a lot of comments about them. Not very woke of them to use balloons. it's a cute photo but I wonder why they are so obsessed with not showing his face. He just looks like a young harry.

I believe the ballon arch that Princess Charlotte was playing with was when they were on an official trip to Canada. So, not something they had much control about.
