Has anyone else seen this on Instagram? It's so lovely and natural. Their PR camp are hitting the right buttons! The Oprah interview now just seems so trashy in comparison!

OP posts:

I thought she overdid the head tilt and her performance was more of a caricature.

Totally agree.

WTF was the creeping coyly round the statue in leaves about?!

Maggiesfarm · 02/05/2021 21:13

@Andylion

I think I must be the only person who wasn’t a fan of the actress playing Diana ,

I thought she overdid the head tilt and her performance was more of a caricature.

I thought she was delightful! An absolute sweetie. I can't say I noticed her tilting her head particularly.

As for the mooted new royal yacht, I think the Emperor's New Clothes might be more apt as a moniker.

If Emperor’s new clothes comes into play, folk needn’t worry about the cost of a new Britannia.

It’ll be a canoe self identifying as a Royal Yacht. 800 quid tops.

Wonder if Andrew would have turned out differently if he had been the oldest? Or would he have always been rotten to the core?

figuresomethingout · 03/05/2021 01:06

Perhaps he would have been guided and protected from his dimness more carefully, and allowed to do less in the way of 'deals'.

That said, what ever could have protected him from the disastrous marriage. There seems to be something toxic about the relationship he has with Fergie where they bring out the worst in each other in terms of character. I say seems, I don't know, but they seem to make similar mistakes. You have to wonder if he couldn't have been easily led to be a better man by a less damaged, better woman (not that it would have been her responsibility, but still a possibility).

ChessieFL · 03/05/2021 07:47

Would he have been ‘allowed’ to marry Fergie if he was the heir to the throne? Would she have been considered suitable Queen material? I don’t know much about her background so I don’t know. I suspect that if he had been the heir he would have been encouraged to marry someone else.

Roussette · 03/05/2021 08:22

I think Andrew is like he is because of his position in the family. There's lots out there saying that because the Queen went on a Commonwealth Tour for months when she had Charles and Anne.... the big gap and the chance to be with her younger two meant that Andrew was indulged and ended up as her favourite.

(I was pulled up for posting this a while back... I am only repeating the very many sources out there saying this. I have no idea if it's true)

I think we are all shaped by our position in the family. And he was. And took advantage of. It is said that Charles just doesn't like him or get on with him and there's been a feud for a long time.

It will be interesting when Charles takes over. Andrew will be even more out in the cold.

EdithWeston · 03/05/2021 08:32

I think you're largely right on that Rousette though I'm not sure how much the Royal parenting style changed between the elder and the younger two.

But the differences between older/younger siblings and the different expectations must have had some role (plus of course the parentage rumours, which one assumes aren't true, but would still not be nice to hear)

The tabloids played their role too - Randy Andy the playboy prince was approbation then, and we can all see now what that's likely to have done to his attitudes

Ocsetldil · 03/05/2021 08:55

Why are people breaking into Royal Lodge at the moment?

Roussette · 03/05/2021 09:05

I read that it was a woman who was detained under the Mental Health Act.
She said she was Andrew's fiancee and had come to have lunch with him.

motherloaded · 03/05/2021 09:11

@StartupRepair

Wonder if Andrew would have turned out differently if he had been the oldest? Or would he have always been rotten to the core?
or course!

And so would have William. Hopefully it will be over soon and different for George and his siblings.

figuresomethingout · 03/05/2021 12:29

mother

You're saying William is rotten to the core?

Maggiesfarm · 03/05/2021 13:48

Neither Andrew nor William are rotten to the core. What a horrible thing to infer. Obviously I've read stuff about Andrew in recent times but at the moment we don't know what is true or false. I've never read or heard anything negative about William, he isn't perfect because nobody is but he seems to be a well grounded, well meaning, devoted family man.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 03/05/2021 13:51

Pp didn't suggest William was rotten, just that his if he'd been born into a different position in the family, he would likely have turned out differently.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 03/05/2021 14:11

I think H would have too.

I don’t think he would have been quite so angry and bitter.

The good thing is that Wills popped out first.

Imagine Harry’s sulky coupon on a stamp...

smilesy · 03/05/2021 14:13

Why would your position in a family make you “rotten to the core” or not? That would imply that everyone turns out with the same personality according to where they were born in their family, which is nonsense. I’m not sure that phrase is applicable anyway. I don’t think Andrew, tool that he is, is rotten to the core. That’s a bit strong. By the same logic, that would make Harry rotten to the core and much as I think he’s a bit of a prat too, that phrase does not apply to him either.

figuresomethingout · 03/05/2021 14:50

I quite like William. I think he tries to do the right thing. Of course nobody's perfect, I'm certainly not.

SaturdayRocks · 03/05/2021 19:34

There is something interesting to observe in the birth order of Royal Family members.

Elizabeth - dutiful and hard working. Margaret - flighty party girl.

Charles - well, I mean what can you say. Definitely preferable to Andrew, although Anne is clearly very hard-working, and Edward (and Sophie) appear to be pretty grounded.

And the then William - sensible and calm, compared with Harry who seems to have pretty poor judgment on many things.

The notable exception to the ‘rule’ is Edward and Albert, but even then, Albert/George very unwillingly ended up taking over anyway.

smilesy · 03/05/2021 20:43

I really don’t think birth order has anything to do with it. They are just different personalities. Yes Margaret was the younger sister who was definitely less responsible than the Queen, but then as pp said, Anne is sensible and Edward. And George VI. So that has disproved the theory.

motherloaded · 03/05/2021 21:15

Imagine having been told from birth that you will be King of England, with courtiers bowing to everything you say and want!
See what success has done to celebs who became famous too young, it's not always pretty.

Wiliam is VERY certain of his own importance and always make it really clear and doesn't take anyone who dares expressing a different opinion very kindly.

Spoilt as the royals might be, I honestly think he would be marginally less arrogant if he had been treated differently from birth.

MummyJ12 · 03/05/2021 21:32

@motherloaded, what evidence do you have to form an opinion that William is arrogant? Or that he doesn’t take kindly to other people’s opinions?
This is obviously your opinion yet you state it in your post as it is fact. It is not.

Viviennemary · 03/05/2021 21:43

Princess Margaret's behaviour was quite bad for a royal. But nothing was ever done about her. Still I don't think she was a very happy woman.

derxa · 03/05/2021 21:47

you will be King of England No such title

vikingwoman · 03/05/2021 22:02

QE2 knew she’d one day be Queen around age 10. Can’t imagine her being arrogant and “VERY certain of her own importance.” Hmm

Marmaladeagain · 03/05/2021 23:09

King, Queen and Prince of England seems to crop up so many times from certain posters who struggle with facts, even when corrected lots of times. Their history books need renewing seem to have copies hundreds of years old and full of hatred. 🙂
