Has anyone else seen this on Instagram? It's so lovely and natural. Their PR camp are hitting the right buttons! The Oprah interview now just seems so trashy in comparison!

OP posts:

“The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father's Day, the month after Archie was born,"
That's rather sweet. Good for her.

Ballstothis1 · 04/05/2021 17:40

I read these threads sometimes, never felt the urge strong enough either way to participate, but clicked the link to book.

Won’t post the words, but all I will say is I don’t think it will be a bestseller, I will stick to Guess How Much I Love You.

stairway · 04/05/2021 17:52

Looks like Meghan’s decided to use her title on the book. That should boost the sales.

OverByYer · 04/05/2021 20:13

Maybe Meghan could use her inclusive lens when she writes the next book about father / daughter relationships?

Roussette · 04/05/2021 20:16

Why would she?
He sold her down the river and they aren't close.

ajandjjmum · 04/05/2021 20:33

He sold her down the river and they aren't close.

Despite the adoring comments she wrote at him on SM the Father's Day before she met Harry.

ajandjjmum · 04/05/2021 20:35

2016
“Happy Father’s Day, daddy, I’m still your buckaroo, and to this day your hugs are still the very best in the whole wide world. Thanks for my work ethic, my love of Busby Berkeley films & club sandwiches, for teaching me the importance of handwritten thank you notes, and for giving me that signature Markle nose. I love you xo — Bean.”

So sad.

OverByYer · 04/05/2021 20:38

Gosh that is sad.

CallmeHendricks · 04/05/2021 20:53

Wow. That's a lovely, sweet message to her dad and seems to show a warm and loving relationship.
How on earth did it get to where they seem to be at now? I don't accept it was him "selling her down the river."

RickiTarr · 04/05/2021 21:08

Caveat: I’m not a huge user of SM.

That is a very personal message to put in the public domain. Especially when you have many thousands of followers. It seems very performative to me. Not that she is alone in that, but it does make me wonder.

It is sad.

Meghan gave up so much for Harry, she was doing really well work wise and would have gone on to bigger things, and she loved her dad.

What the press did in manipulating that poor sick man was appalling and nobody stepped forward from 'the firm' to even try to make things better.

I was really glad that she mentioned, in the Oprah interview, that she had 'lost her dad'. That was heartfelt.

It would be so good if they could reconcile. I dread to think what effect it would have on Meghan if her dad died suddenly, soon. He's not a well man, anything could happen.

Marmaladeagain · 04/05/2021 21:17

what I find most weird is that Harry never went to the trouble of meeting his father-in-law to be. How discourteous is that? Go over and speak to him and prepare him and warn him that you have rules in place that he mustn't break. Don't tell him after the event. How can the palace get involved, when Harry hasn't even ever met him?

CallmeHendricks · 04/05/2021 21:19

^Whilst this isn't meant to be a thread about Meghan and Harry, I just want to respond to @Maggiesfarm.

"Meghan gave up so much for Harry, she was doing really well work wise and would have gone on to bigger things,"^ I don't think so. Suits was coming to an end and she was getting older in a notoriously ageist industry.

"What the press did in manipulating that poor sick man was appalling and nobody stepped forward from 'the firm' to even try to make things better." I'm not sure it was "the Firm's" job to step forward; it was Harry & Meghan's role, and "recollections seem to vary" as to how/whether that happened.

" I dread to think what effect it would have on Meghan if her dad died suddenly, soon. He's not a well man, anything could happen." That is certainly true. She must be aware that it is a possibility, though. And how she might feel. Not to mention how the world's press will judge her (rightly or wrongly).

CathyorClaire · 04/05/2021 21:25

@KarmaNoMore

They are advertising them so much as the future of the monarchy, I am quite convinced Charles will be skipped over or abdicate quite quickly.
There is literally no chance of this.

Charles has served the longest royal apprenticeship in history and his chafing at the bit has been apparent for years. He's not going to pass up Buggins' turn at any price.

I think Meghan was embarrassed by her Dad’s poverty and lifestyle, so prevented them meeting. If your fiancé kept you away from their father, you wouldn’t get all hyper assertive and overrule that.
SaturdayRocks · 04/05/2021 21:27

Totally agree @CathyorClaire, as I said upthread.

This wishful thinking is strong in some, but it’s simply not going to happen. If you want to pick and choose, you need to get rid of the monarchy altogether. Which, of course, it could come to.

I agree. What the hell happened?
BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 04/05/2021 21:36

Agreed. The whole point of a hereditary monarchy, the whole bloody point of the whole thing, is that you don't get to choose who wears the crown. Not the monarch (abdication is not usually considered acceptable), nor the subjects. No one gets to choose.

SaturdayRocks · 04/05/2021 21:37

I find the idea of publishing a personal, heartfelt message to someone I love online for millions to read absolutely 😱😱

Wow.

CathyorClaire · 04/05/2021 21:41

He loosely befriended Bishop Ball, as did many others. Even the then AofC, George Carey, who was lovely, stuck up for Ball, afterwards saying, "We were all duped". Jimmy Saville had no close friends but was 'friendly' with many people in high places, part of his cover

Chrles lobbied Lambeth Palace on Ball's behalf. He also used those notoriously opaque Duchy of Cornwall funds to buy him a house to rent. Not the actions of a loose connection.

Savile was close enough to Charles to look over speeches and to entertain him to private dinners. he also acted as a marriage guidance counsellor to both the Wales's and the Yorks.

Oh, yes did he have friends in high places.

Wow.

Yes, exactly.

I do feel a bit sorry for her. It was easier, years ago, for ambitious actresses to rewrite their backstory or cover up anything painful.

I think she has probably been genuinely torn over her Dad, but has also told fibs to cover up things that embarrassed her, and found excuses to drop people who don’t fit her image. She’s probably not as confident as she looks.

vikingwoman · 04/05/2021 22:05

Switched off at inclusive lens.
Same.

I find that message a little odd in its tone. It’s the way a young girl might talk to her father . Perhaps an 11 year old. This was a woman of 35 I think at the time. Someone who had been married. It sounds wistful and little girlish. Incidentally, she got rid of the Markle nose, so she can’t have been all that attached to it. I find the way she expresses herself saccharine and a bit adolescent generally. I wonder if she is stuck emotionally in some way.
mermaidsariel · 05/05/2021 02:46

@Ocsetldil

Meghan has written a children’s book based on Harry and Archie’s relationship. You can buy it here
You start to feel that there is literally nothing M feels is private and not up for selling in some way.
