Has anyone else seen this on Instagram? It's so lovely and natural. Their PR camp are hitting the right buttons! The Oprah interview now just seems so trashy in comparison!

The security is a weird point though.

Harry is famously the grand-son of one of the richest women in the world. The security risks for his kids and wife (and himself) are enormous. People have attracted kidnappers for a lot less!

I hope that the queen and Charles pay privately for his security, they can afford it which is the reason why he needs it in the first place.

But other grandchildren of the Queen also don’t have publically funded security.

Ireland is merely an example of a neighbouring democracy with a cost-effective elected ceremonial HoS, and which has had some excellent recent presidents who have had broad appeal and been generally representative of the people who elected them. And who, in any case, if they don't like the winning candidate, get to elect a replacement at the end of that president's term.

Who said they were higher profile? That’s just it, they are minor royals, and they still cost us dearly.

Of the grown up grandchildren I think only William has it.

It would make no difference if we had a president or chancellor or whatever head of state instead of a PM.

No one is suggesting replacing the prime minister, though! Just that you could have an elected Head of State, who would have a largely ceremonial role, and need not have any kind of political background -- entirely different to the PM.

Exactly this. Everyone is entitled to their views, and to fiercely defend them. But the Royal family haters (who are often the Meghan lovers,) do NOT like it that some people disagree with them, and love the Royal family. They seem quite annoyed by it actually. They also have this bizarre idea that they are right, and the Royalists are WRONG.^

And as for the snide remarks, and demands to know WHY we like them, and telling us we must explain why we want a monarch blah blah blah...

I do find the hatred and sheer contempt for the Royals (from a few posters) quite bizarre though!

A little staged, but not hard to stage because they work well together as a team, and family is important to them and they're both good parents to happy children, that's obvious. I think their children will grow up well-balanced.

I want to live in this country (the UK) with all of its flaws and a monarchy. After all the misery and disruption due to Brexit and Covid more disruption would be unacceptable to the majority.

Exactly. He's not hard working, his entire schtick for his entire adult life has been the "I'm not Charles" hustle. Except he's just like him, even down to the tone deaf environmental posturing whilst living an unsustainable life and the widely rumoured cheating.

If he isn't a respectable family man, what exactly is he bringing to the table to make us keep them? We were only going to keep it past the Queen for the hope that William would better but he's not, it's the same old cheating, same old patronising, same old rubbish new century.

I agree, even before I read about those rumours, I thought that the future of the monarchy depends on william keeping it zipped up in his pants.

Well that's what Stacey's suggesting. The Queen gives up all her homes to house the homeless. Meanwhile the republican 'high earners' of MN will continue to have a London house and a bolthole in the Cotswolds.

How fickle. I’d rather have a few thousand more nurses, or police, maybe a new hospital. You know, alternate worthwhile stuff you could do with the money saved that we spend on the royals.

I think Kate is absolutely ideal for the role. Could not be better.

I just like to question the whole thing. And will continue to do so. ATM I'm on the fence with it. I would be happy with a seriously slimmed down Monarchy. Which has almost happened because of Andrew, H&M. But enough of the 'grace and favour' apartments and let's give some of these massive estates all over the country back to the people.. there are far more than we even know about it. 21 at the last count.

But the British royal family are human magnolia. Utterly dull and unremarkable

The current and previous two Irish presidents have done more interesting things with their lives than the Queen ever has. Unsurprisingly, given the limitations of her role in terms of education, employment, freedom and broad life experience. It would have a handicapping effect on the brightest personality.

And if you want pageantry, why not just randomly select a member of the public of the right size to wear the tiaras, ride in the carriages etc? And you’d really choose the changing of the guard and the state opening of parliament over better public services?

Maybe some of the Euro royals are a bit sexier with more colour and va va voom. Perhaps they could take over for a while. A gap year abroad so to speak. Not that awful Albert from Monaco though.

I am yet to meet one person who can explain - let alone convince me - why the royal children are anymore special or deserving to become head of state than any other child.

There's also the small issue that someone like Andrew could have been born first.

Plus the fact that the royal family has proven how little they bring to the country during the pandemic. It was their chance to shine, and I don't mean anyone expected them to become a medical professional and work on covid wards. They have done nothing.

Time to go, the country will benefit financially !
