Has anyone else seen this on Instagram? It's so lovely and natural. Their PR camp are hitting the right buttons! The Oprah interview now just seems so trashy in comparison!

OP posts:

You're fiercely defending your views - surely those of an opposite opinion should be offered the same courtesy?

Everyone can have an opinion, and if everybody did agree, the royals would be long gone by now anyway.

It's very strange that some posters are taking the whole issue VERY personally. Why is that? We are talking about people they don't know, will likely never meet (or just 5 minutes in some event), and just happen to be famous.

Quartz2208 · 30/04/2021 18:29

They do look happy and settled and it was nice to see

It didnt look like any normal I see on a day to day basis though it looked very put together. Which it should because they have the people and the money to do so.

I joked imagine if they had DS and tried to put him in all that Boden

ancientgran · 30/04/2021 18:31

I don’t see why it would be like that. If a presidency was run similar to Irelands it would be a hell of a lot cheaper......we wouldn’t be paying for security for about 20 relatives of the president (as we do for the royals), we wouldn’t be supplying them with umpteen castles and palaces, and most importantly......with a president, you aren’t stuck with them forever, with their children taking over when they die, regardless of merit. It’s wrong on every level. Doesn't the president get security for life? So you can end up with a few costing money unless they die off quickly.

fluffysocks89 · 30/04/2021 18:32

.......
You cannot be serious. One maybe but not actually having to go to loads of them after doing engagements during the day. Travelling about all over the country.

How long do you think these “engagements” last for? They hardly do 8 hour days......and it’s nowhere near every day either. The toil of this “work” is all done by others. They just step into the car.

ajandjjmum · 30/04/2021 18:32

This doesn't make sense. If everyone agreed, they might agree they should stay! Grin

I hate the way that some posters try to talk down to others who have a different opinion. Just accept that we differ, and we'll all have to live with that - it's really not too hard. I don't think I am taking anything VERY personally - just saying what I think, which is just as valid as what you think. Albeit different.

Yes and rightly so, but not distant family members too.

Distant family members don't get security. Anne/Edward only get security when 'on royal duty' - ie. working. The York princesses don't get security - that's what Andrew got in a strop about.

OK but it isn't just the current president it could be a few, their partners probably get it as well and if they have kids I can't imagine the Presidents kids just walking off to school by themselves.

This is a very interesting article.
When the Queen dies, it will cost the country billions.

www.businessinsider.com/what-happens-when-queen-elizabeth-ii-dies-king-charles-2018-6?r=US&IR=T

Funeral. Coronation costing billions. Travel disruptions. Businesses closed. Stock exchange closed. Armed Forces and police new uniforms. New insignias. New coignage and notes from Royal Mint. Change of passports, stamps, postboxes and so on...

Anyone who doesn't think the RF cost us is misguided.

ajandjjmum · 30/04/2021 18:39

There are currently six living Presidents, who will all have (and need!) security.

Roussette · 30/04/2021 18:41

It's a bit different to Andrew, a non working Royal, costing £300,000 a year in security

fluffysocks89 · 30/04/2021 18:44

Presently there are 21 members of the RF getting round the clock protection by highly trained Scotland Yard officers. They work in shifts round the clock so that there is an officer for each royal at all times. Think of that if you ever struggle to get the police to come out to you.

ajandjjmum · 30/04/2021 18:46

It's wrong - especially when you consider that Anne (who is often the hardest working Royal) doesn't have full-time security.

That's another example of him being an entitled brat, and HM letting him get away with it.

I don't think they're all perfect, but on the whole, I believe they do a good job.

Opinions may vary!

And according to recent popularity surveys. The reaction to Philip's death. The majority of the country won't mind. Sorry if some do but that is kind of how this works.

There’s no comparison. The Irish Presidents kids aren’t high profile, no one knows who they are, any security costs for them would be minimal, a drop in the ocean compared to the royals. A true democratic country, Ireland does very well with a presidency.

Do they? I couldn't care less

I don't want to live there
motherloaded · 30/04/2021 18:54

The security is a weird point though.

Harry is famously the grand-son of one of the richest women in the world. The security risks for his kids and wife (and himself) are enormous. People have attracted kidnappers for a lot less!

I hope that the queen and Charles pay privately for his security, they can afford it which is the reason why he needs it in the first place.

motherloaded · 30/04/2021 18:55

I do like the idea of the queen successor having to fight for the throne when it becomes vacant though. Grin Individually, not through "heroes".

Feelings always run high at times like that. Mob hysteria in a way. Wrong time to estimate public opinion. Also it depends who’s doing the “popularity survey”

halcyondays · 30/04/2021 18:58

How can there be 21 royals higher profile than Anne?

BBC1 has a look back at the Royal Wedding on tonight.

fluffysocks89 · 30/04/2021 18:59

derxa

Nobody’s asking you to. But you wouldn’t want to live there because they have an elected president? Confused

motherloaded · 30/04/2021 18:59

Prime Ministers still have security, don't they?

It would make no difference if we had a president or chancellor or whatever head of state instead of a PM.

Seems like you're in accord with Stacey Soloman. Apparently she's concerned about all the homeless people in this country. Shame she's not housing homeless people in her new mansion.
