Has anyone else seen this on Instagram? It's so lovely and natural. Their PR camp are hitting the right buttons! The Oprah interview now just seems so trashy in comparison!

@motherloaded

Meghan gets abused for daring wearing skinny jeans, whilst Kate is getting praise for the same outfit. Confused

Maybe you would like to start your own Meghan-loving thread? I would if I were you. Wink

There are many things that I pay towards that I 'don't like'! That's the way our country works.

true, but it's 2021. We don't have to put up with the royals.

If the majority says that they had enough, the royals would go. It's high time the public is actually asked to decide on the subject -maybe after the pandemic, we are still stuck in the Brexit mess anyway.

NEVER going to happen. The Royals are here to stay.

Keep saying it will though, if it makes you feel better eh? Smile

Bit odd to be on a Royal Family topic when - judging by your posts - you clearly LOATHE them. Confused Does it make you feel good to bash and berate them?

@motherloaded

So putting the Cambridge kids on a pedestal just because of their birth.. hmm is rather pathetic. Do people have such a low self esteem that they enjoy believing someone is above them?

Bit nasty. You really do not like the Royals do you LOL! As I said, does it make you feel good to berate and bash them? Maybe YOU are the one with low self esteem, hmmmm? Wink

VladmirsPoutine · 30/04/2021 17:17

I think the issue with shoulders is when it’s appropriate. Evening dress OK. Formal daytime wear not. And whether you know.

It was for similar events IIRC. Also Meghan castigated for holding her bump whilst for Kate it was a loving act or something. Also avocado praised when Kate ate it but when Meghan did she was fuelling drought and murder. Thank goodness Meghan took her prince and son out of this island -it would have been the undoing of her!

stclair · 30/04/2021 17:25

I saw them on the beach in Norfolk last summer and they were like this, having a normal family day out. Well-turned out though of course, compared to the average beach goer!

If that was Holkham beach, it is so lovely there.

I agree that the Royals are here to stay. They bring in the tourist dollars. I read somewhere that the Monarchy contributes about £2 billion per year to the UK economy. As a business alone, they are great value for money for the taxpayer. And let’s face it, they carry out many engagements a lot of us would find boring. For that alone, they deserve my respect.
Frankly, I don’t understand the snarkiness on this thread. The 10th Anniversary video was lovely. Of course it’s PR.... it needs to be from a business standpoint.
The kiddies are adorable too.

fluffysocks89 · 30/04/2021 17:54

It strikes me that most do their best and the few pence from my taxes which contribute to their upkeep is peanuts

Why is it that it’s always broken down to a “few pence” when we’re talking about the royals. Nothing else gets broken down the same way to make us feel it’s good value. Those “few pence” is a lot of money all told. Why should it go to a super rich privileged family, especially when so many vital services have been cut. It’s ridiculous.

There’s no proof they bring in the tourists. Tourists would come whether or not. Empty royal buildings would be a huge draw. The 2 billion they apparently bring in to the economy is nonsense, that’s what they have us believe.....all the profits from the crown estates would ALL be ours if the monarchy was gone. We’d be hugely better off if they were gone.
fluffysocks89 · 30/04/2021 18:02

And those “engagements” they carry out that they call work.....most of us wouldn’t find boring,we’d probably pay to go to a lot of them. We’d have to make our own way there too of course.

motherloaded · 30/04/2021 18:04

littlepattilou

why do you take everything so personally? Are you related to them or something?

I don't hate anyone, I don't care enough about them. I am just saying the monarchy is outdated and no longer relevant or useful.

Why do you need to put people you don't know on a pedestal? They are just..."people". That's the point.

Once they are private citizen, they can release a spin-off of Made In Chelsea or do whatever they please. Their current behaviour is not acceptable, the Andrew situation is not acceptable, and I find the whole Meghan debacle quite embarrassing.

But do tell us why you do feel the need to have an hereditary Monarch over your head?

What did Meghan do to you? Kate was in the paper just yesterday wearing skinny jeans. Did you miss it?

I would find those engagements work, especially if I had to make sure I didn't express a real opinion or say anything to draw condemnation.

I wouldn't pay to go to the opening of a primary school I didn't go to or cut a ribbon on Skegness on a rainy day in November, or have endless luncheons with the type of people Jackie Weaver has to handle. I would rather be a doctor or a teacher or sitting in my lovely garden with a good book.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/04/2021 18:08

"Never" is a long time, and I've no doubt various european monarchs didn't think they were going anywhere either - until populations no longer had any use for them

I do agree they won't be going anywhere soon though, especially while the Queen's still alive

It always amazes me too, the way people fiercely defend them. Why can’t they see how wrong it is, an unelected monachy.

fluffysocks89 · 30/04/2021 18:09

This pandemic has actually highlighted how absolutely useless they are to us.

gottakeeponmovin · 30/04/2021 18:09

I'm not a royalist but it did make me a bit emotional. If that was my family someone would get sand in their eyes, one of the kids would burn their tongue on a marshmallow and frankly I haven't looked at my husband like that since i was 19

DoubleTweenQueen · 30/04/2021 18:11

It’s likely Hunst’on beach & dunes, from where they live ;)

vikingwoman · 30/04/2021 18:17

A large chunk of the money goes to maintenance of the Royal buildings. So whether they are “empty” or not, they require upkeep. The reason why so many country estates from the last century were taken over by the National Trust was their exorbitant maintenance cost and upkeep. Preserving these Royal buildings comes at a cost whether there’s a monarchy or not.
And yes, they do bring in the money. Every time there is a Royal wedding, special occasion, etc.

Well obviously some of the stuff is boring. But I think a lot of us would love to have the problem of being “bored” in our daily struggles through life. Small price to pay for what they get in return though isn’t it.
Wabe · 30/04/2021 18:22

I don't think the royals are necessarily here to stay at all. The tourist income would continue to be generated regardless, as with Versailles, and I think that with Prince Philip's death, even ardent royalists are for the first time seriously considering the Queen's likely lifespan, the uninspiring prospect of Charles on the throne, the deglamourising effect of the Oprah interview (which, yes, improved gossip value, but diminished the sense of a family set apart by a divine birthright etc etc), and the quite alarming thought that, had Andrew come before Charles in birth order, the heir to the throne would now be someone wanted for questioning by the FBI for his friendship with a paedophile and his relationships with trafficked underage girls. Because that's what you get with a hereditary monarchy -- you take your chance about who is thrown up by chance and birth order.

I think it's a potential minefield of a moment for the RF, and that a lot of frantic thinking is going on about glamour and mystique versus accusations of luxury, workshyness and distance from ordinary people, duty versus relatability etc etc.

You're fiercely defending your views - surely those of an opposite opinion should be offered the same courtesy?

Just because you say it's wrong, doesn't mean it is. That is just your opinion - which of course, you're entitled to!

fluffysocks89 · 30/04/2021 18:24

No they don’t bring in the money. When W and K got married they cost the country millions in lost revenue through people being off work.

Dinner with Donald Trump? Or was it a whole weekend. There isn't enough money in the world.

You cannot be serious. One maybe but not actually having to go to loads of them after doing engagements during the day. Travelling about all over the country.

No ta.
