Has anyone else seen this on Instagram? It's so lovely and natural. Their PR camp are hitting the right buttons! The Oprah interview now just seems so trashy in comparison!

i dont see the capacity to cheat in W.
he is lucky to have K.

VladmirsPoutine · 30/04/2021 10:54

Tbh any woman would be lucky to have William. Were it not that I was born at the wrong time/place I too might have been posting from my palatial bed.

CokeDrinker · 30/04/2021 10:56

@Wabe

And maybe it's just me, but it really jarred me when William didn't wear a wedding ring, like Charles and Philip. It just.....I don't know, I guess I disliked him from that moment, I mean even if you're not going to wear it every day, to not accept a ring when 'exchanging of the rings' is a key part of a wedding ceremony, I would be heartbroken if I were Kate. I thought badly of him after that.

That is fairly bizarre. It's jewellery.
.

Yes, I know, but it's what it symbolises, @Wabe . It is, after all, an important part of the ceremony, and traditionally the Priest or Pastor doesn't announce you husband and wife until after the 'exchange of the rings'. But I'm willing to accept it just might be me.
ShoppingPrecinctPrincess · 30/04/2021 10:57

They don't look 'privileged' in that video, they are just a family enjoying a day out. If we didn't know who they were, they could be anyone. Dressed ordinarily, doing ordinary things outdoors.

That's what's giving me the eyerolls. Them playing at being a middle class family from Surrey. They are privileged. They have unimaginable wealth, numerous luxury residences, staff to wait upon them, Norland nannies in those ugly uniforms, the whole nine yards. But people are supposed to be impressed that they cosplay as being an ordinary family for PR purposes. The family portrait a pp posted of Charles and Diana seems very grandiose in 2021 but that's still the reality for the royal family, it's just the public aesthetic has changed, now they pretend they're just like you and me.

@SaturdayRocks

I believe wedding rings are considered very déclassé for men in UC circles. Wills not wearing one is not necessarily reflective of his feelings for Kate.
What is UC?
ShoppingPrecinctPrincess · 30/04/2021 10:58

upper-class

ShoppingPrecinctPrincess · 30/04/2021 10:59

wedding rings - bad
pinkie rings - good

SaturdayRocks · 30/04/2021 11:01

Nancy Mitford would’ve just said U.

MummyJ12 · 30/04/2021 11:07

@fluffysocks89

It’s unfortunate that we heavily scrutinise people. I think we need to be kinder.

It would be unfortunate if we didn’t scrutinise them. The RF are funded by the taxpayer, they already have huge privacy laws in place, particularly their finances. It is perfectly right that they are scrutinised. Years ago we would probably never heard about Andrews antics. It’s the price they have to pay for all their wealth and privilege. We have the right to know.

You’re absolutely right, I should’ve put scrutinise people’s interactions. Sorry I wasn’t clearer on that! Smile
CokeDrinker · 30/04/2021 11:42

@ShoppingPrecinctPrincess Thanks.

PlayMemory · 30/04/2021 11:54

Love the video but William looks uncomfortable and bit embarrassed, especially in the last shot. Catherine is absolutely gorgeous as are the kids. Gives me goosebumps. The music with laughter overlaid felt a bit wistful, I thought. Overall, it made me smile but left me feeling a bit melancholy. Confused

Wabe · 30/04/2021 11:55

That's right. The British UC consider men's wedding rings a bit nouveau. 'Continental' at a push.
PicsInRed · 30/04/2021 11:59

@lollipoprainbow

If Meghan and Harry had made a video like this they would have been slaughtered in the press. The media couldn't stand Kate years ago she was slated a lot, such hypocrites.
And by a "rock photographer" 😂 there would be absoute derision, but that's ok for this two apparently.
SaturdayRocks · 30/04/2021 11:59

Or in the case of wedding rings, non U!

Personally, I think signet rings are really quite 😕 Just a hop, step and a jump from sovereign rings. 😬

My God isn't he just!
Thesearmsofmine · 30/04/2021 12:03

It’s a nice enough advert for them I guess.

To the pp talking about rings, DH doesn’t have a wedding ring and I never wear my rings, it’s not a big deal.

GlencoraP · 30/04/2021 12:11

My dh doesn’t have a wedding ring , in fact most of the men in my family don’t. It’s a relatively modern thing for men to have rings in this country.

motherloaded · 30/04/2021 12:15

In fairness, ring or no ring make no difference about Will's marital status being public knowledge.

Havehope21 · 30/04/2021 12:17

I thought it was lovely - didn't read too much into it. They have a deal with the press that the paparazzi respect their privacy if they release photos at key events. I thought it was a well thought out, beautifully filmed video sharing an insight into their family life. If you don't like the RF, you don't need to watch it. If you do, enjoy it!

But the point is that, regardless of whether you 'like the RF', you still pay for them.

Which is the whole point of the video -- giving fodder to the fawners and attempting to stave off the others from prompting a change of public opinion at a key moment when a lot of people are talking about the mortality of the Queen, the prospect of Charles as elderly heir to the throne, the Sussexes' grievances, the sudden shortfall in the numbers of 'working royals' etc. Not perhaps as dramatic as the public opinion at Diana's funeral, but definitely a tricky moment. The PR will be being very carefully considered.

merrygoround88 · 30/04/2021 12:35

They present an aspirational idea of the perfect middle England family.

This fawning over people with little achievement beyond presenting a particular lifestyle - Barbour, Land Rover, picnics, ‘traditional’ values - is very English and a quite interesting dynamic.

It’s almost nostalgic and you can see it in the amount of admiration someone like, say Jools Oliver gets.

ShirleyPhallus · 30/04/2021 13:01

I’m not absolutely sure how Kate is held up to be a role model. I certainly won’t be teaching my daughters to not pursue any kind of career but hang around the rich men hoping to be picked up instead

And she’s very good at turning up in public places in a nude heel, waving at the right time and smiling at the right times but... that’s it isn’t it. No personality beyond that.

merrygoround88 · 30/04/2021 13:14

@ShirleyPhallus She’s the perfect upper middle class Mummy and there is no more aspirational group than these mummies.

It’s how she was raised. Look at her mother (of whom there is something to admire) and how she worked to create or at the very least present the perfect life and family. I have no doubt she worked bloody hard but there is an aura of perfection and wholesomeness which is quite seductive

VladmirsPoutine · 30/04/2021 13:19

@merrygoround88 Altogether I don't blame women for aspiring to it. It's a perfectly valid life choice. Thinking about working all hours, getting an education, working some more, trying to be all things to all people and not having very much at the end of the month. The stress of bills and kids and all that brings really who wouldn't want a life when the most important thing you have to think about is whether or not you waved with the correct hand and if the dress you wore matches the shoes you wore. Sounds a hell of a less stressful than 'normal' life!

Roussette · 30/04/2021 13:22

I think Carole Middleton has done fabulously well and Kate never puts a foot wrong. The Cambridge children seem lovely, polite and really well brought up. They’re always perfectly turned out as well!

Gosh Shock
I knew people who think like this existed, but have never seen it on MN!

Firstly... the kids are lovely, the video was unnecessary but I get why the RF are doing it, Kate was really over-grinning and that made it look rather unnatural.

But how anyone can say they are polite, well brought up children. Well.... they are schooled for royal life from a young age, so obviously are but we do not know them, we don't know their personalities or what they are like.
And no it is not an insight into their personal life at all. We say 1minute20seconds of a contrived rehearsed video and think we know them??? We know nothing. Just what the PR machine feeds us.

As for Carole Middleton having done a fab job with Kate... well... what can I say... apart from ..what a ridiculous comment.
