The Queen.s lady in waiting has been around for decades apparently

BlessedDD · 17/04/2021 16:56

Yes they had separate households and lives

AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/04/2021 16:56

Both new mothers were there

LemonViolet · 17/04/2021 16:56

@JanFebAnyMonth

So neither of the new mothers were in attendance?
No they were both there, walking in heels and all!
BlessedDD · 17/04/2021 16:56

Perfect if you have the means to live like that (and the help)!

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 17/04/2021 16:57

They were wrong to say there were any great grandchildren there. They are all aged 10 and under and none of them went.

SueSaid · 17/04/2021 17:00

'If I was Harry i would be on the plane ASAP. He's done what he came back to do. It'ts true though that whatever he does it will be wrong.'

Oh you'd hope he'd at least wait until Sunday, maybe have a garden catch up with his family.

Alsohuman · 17/04/2021 17:01

@SallyOMalley

Elgar's Nimrod is beautiful. My grandfather (in the RAF all his working life) chose it for his funeral. He died over 10 years ago and I still cry every time I hear it.
It did for me. My dad was RAF and we had it at his funeral too.

Such a beautiful funeral. It was faultless.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/04/2021 17:01

I'm glad the cameras didn't focus too much on the royal family in their private grief

AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/04/2021 17:03

Perhaps the great grandchildren were there but not visible?

AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/04/2021 17:04

Autumn with savannah perhaps?

I find the idea of being a lady in waiting fascinating. It's basically just a name given to the Queen's very organised BFF.

Wonderful service. So dignified and beautiful.

I was just thinking the same. I am watching but I feel they should be allowed this without it being televised. Or, no close ups of them. How awful for the world to witness and comment on your grief / stiff upper lip.

He was a Prince of the Realm and deserved a fitting state funeral as would happen without the pandemic, this I think was much more fitting for him (He helped arrange it). I think that the cameras did really well without being invasive xx

Found it very moving.
Watched on the bbc. Can anyone tell me, did they play nimrod when the bands were playing?

JayAlfredPrufrock · 17/04/2021 17:13

Yes

magicstar1 · 17/04/2021 17:17

I’m not British, but watched it all and it was a lovely ceremony. The poor Queen looked so wobbly on her feet at first...I feel so sorry for her. All the people saying well they had 70 years together. How much harder must it be to have spent 70 years with someone and then they’re gone.

Yes.
JinglingHellsBells · 17/04/2021 17:17

@Whatnameisgood

Does anyone know who’s going to be living with the queen (family and friends, I mean) and supporting her over the coming weeks?
Edward and Sophie live 10 mins away! Andrew lives with her at Windsor all the time now.

I am not sure why you think anyone should live with her?
Not all widows or widowers have people living with them.
She will still be working- she's the Queen.

There are a few of them. Today’s was Lady Susan Hussey who is one of Prince William’s godmothers, so well in with the family.

The Queen will have the same HMS Bubble that has been with her from the start of this pandemic

And there were no great grandchildren there I assume they were referencing the fact he had them

ApplyWithin · 17/04/2021 17:22

For me the most moving image - after the cap and gloves in the carriage - was the sight of the royal household staff lined up against one of the walls. In their aprons and uniforms like they’d just stepped out of the kitchen. Those are the people who knew PP well, looked after him daily. What a change in their lives as well.

randomer · 17/04/2021 17:22

The non Windsors are an interesting group with some exotic names.

Haberdasheryhen · 17/04/2021 17:22

I thought the presence of his ponies and carriage was very poignant.
