Watching on BBC 1. Wish Huw would shut up and let us listen to the bands/watch them March.

The commentary now is a bit insensitive, asking what they thought the queen might be feeling. What do they think?!

CubanLinx · 17/04/2021 16:00

@Peregrina

I actually think that this is a much better and respectful way of doing things than the 800+ congregation plus gawpers that there would have been.

I agree. This made it much more of a family funeral and much more dignified.

Agree. Less of a spectacle. Really beautiful.
SoupDragon · 17/04/2021 16:00

Despite all the ceremonial parts at the beginning, it was a family funeral.

GooseberryJam · 17/04/2021 16:00

@FlattestWhite

Hope they can have a wake of some sort, I know it's only 15 but maybe they can split into two groups or be outside in small distanced groups or something.
I wondered about this - whether you could split the 30 into two groups of 15 in separate rooms.
BlueLobelia · 17/04/2021 16:00

I think Duchess Kate gets it right sartorially every time. She has really blossomed into someone who appears a natural future Queen.

LIZS · 17/04/2021 16:01

Great contrast of the ceremonial pomp beforehand and silence as the family left.

Yes I agree. What do they thinkshe’s feeling?🙄
Beakind82 · 17/04/2021 16:01

@BlueLobelia

And Peter looked like he was crying. Blesd them all, and indeed everyone who has lost loved ones this past dreadful year.
Yes, he looked like he was struggling :-(

Agreed! What a crass question.

I agree, what an ill judged thing to say.

His cap reminds of my father's funeral they were the same age

SpringtimeSummertime · 17/04/2021 16:02

I thought it was excellent. So much better not to have hundreds of people swarming around. Focus was on the what mattered.

TableFlowerss · 17/04/2021 16:02

I loved Harry, William and Kate walking together 😀 hopefully the start of new beginnings 💜

The ponies really got me.
They knew he had gone.

I've just really surprised myself by raising an eyebrow at Katie Nicholls not having black tights on while she spouted her nonsense about the Queen's feelings.
SuperSange · 17/04/2021 16:03

What is the call to arms? The piece of music after the last post?

LemonViolet · 17/04/2021 16:03

I didn’t see Charles & Camilla or Anne & Tim walking, they were probably in a car, and the Queen’s cousins are all elderly and probably wouldn’t walk either.

I watched it on the Royal Family YouTube channel to avoid all the chatter. It was very peaceful and dignified.
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/04/2021 16:03

It was a very poignant service, and my heart broke for the Queen, sitting on her own.

My father wanted ‘For those in peril in the sea’ at his funeral, but he died suddenly, and in the shock afterwards, I forgot. I still kick myself for that.

I thought this was lovely, I suspect it was natural but they must have also known the eyes of the media would be on them and that was such a gentle way of doing it, poignant but not at all detracting from the occasion
hannayeah · 17/04/2021 16:04

@Justmuddlingalong

Apparently it's traditional for the eldest grandchild to walk in the middle, so that would be Peter Phillips.
I thought it was nice and easier for them, too. It would be such a reminder of losing their mother, to them and the whole world. It takes the focus off their relationship and keeps it firmly on their Grandfather where it belongs today.

They would know the whole world would be studying their every move to try and make something out of the slightest glance. It seems much better to eliminate that so they don’t have to feel on guard any more than they already must as Royals.

Charles and Camilla were walking. Charles was seen tucking his handkerchief into a pocket Sad
Roussette · 17/04/2021 16:06

BBC said that Phillip had planned the Land Rover for 18 years and made tweaks to it over the years. This would mean that the Queen has her funeral planned too
