Harry appointed senior exec at $1bn startup

Just seen that Harry has been appointed Chief Impact Officer at a billion dollar valued Silicon Valley startup.
This feels so unfair. I know people who have worked for years first qualifying then gaining experience in their field, without a hope of a job like this. Harry of the 2 A levels and zero formal work experience outside of the army. He can bleat about the hardships of privilege all he wants but he’d never get near a job like this as a private “normal” citizen.

Thank you. And to their families. 💐

Roussette · 24/03/2021 09:04

Legwarmers Harry's timing was off because baby arrived Sunday night!

I did laugh at what Mike had said and BBC read out this morning on the sofa.. it was literally a birth in the bathroom with no one there but him and her, him panicing, towels and hot water and him saying to himself 'brace brace brace'
Really funny

redspecial · 24/03/2021 09:14

throwing around the word 'woke' to insult people really does you no favours.
woke definition alert to injustice in society, especially racism

no. my comment has nothing to do with injustice, unless you wish to discuss the injustice of complaining about how poor you are from a multimillion dollar house while wearing a £4000 dress, or rubbishing your £30 million wedding that actual poor people's taxes contributed to. we just all have a different tolerance for the shallow, wealthy, competitive virtue signalling crowd.

purpleme12 · 24/03/2021 09:21

I don't understand why he said he was ashamed that Megan was struggling with her mental health when he's supposed to be so into improving mental health

SozzledSausage · 24/03/2021 09:35

"I couldn't help my wife with her mental health so I'll become Chief Impact Officer at a mental health charity......"

They clearly didn't ask him about his track record at the interview. Hmm

The pair of them look more and more foolish every day. It's very difficult to take them seriously.

derxa · 24/03/2021 09:38

@redspecial

I hadn't seen the news about Zara, how marvellous. Congratulations to them, they seem like a great couple. On the bathroom floor before time to get to a hospital is sort of good, means its nice and quick.
Well done Zara and Mike. No Portland hospital for them. Just push it out girl! My cousin had her second in a car parked in a high street. I don't get this timing of announcements drama. Zara must think that Harry has lost the plot.
IrmaFayLear · 24/03/2021 09:38

I must say though that Harry is getting his money’s worth out of that suit. He wears it all the time.

Agree that it is just a “name” job; he won’t have to do anything except deliver a few speeches written for him and schmooze a few people. It’s like when celebrities are a “brand ambassador” for a product. Just a useful face and name.

All these posh people seem to float around doing naff all. Has anyone posh ever worked for a local council or in a normal job with four weeks’ holiday? They all seem to be self-employed as artisan cheese makers etc or have stunt jobs where you never actually have to turn up in desirable organisations.

cyclingmad · 24/03/2021 09:44

You all moan about posh peolle just having ways lives and bash Harry and Meghan, yet seemingly support the rest of the RF who itself is an institution where only those born into the family can be Prince, Princess, Queen or King and be paid by taxpayers.

Lol the irony in that! They don't have any qualifications in being heads of state they are tight it, whose to say there aren't more qualified people out there who cannot be trained to do it and do a better job.

So if your going to complain about certain groups of people being given 'jobs' but arent qualified or deserving of it because mummy and daddy pulled strings or they are rich etc. look no further than the RF itself.

Diptyque · 24/03/2021 09:45

I hope Mike and Zara call their son Flash.

redspecial · 24/03/2021 09:46

H said he was ashamed that Megan was struggling with her mental health, but he isn't just simply supposed to be into improving MH, he actually founded a charity to raise awareness. The man is an even bigger twit than we realised, and a crap DH for not seeking help for his DW when it appears she so desperately needed it.

"brace brace brace" Grin that's hilarious. MT's rugby training kicking in there. was he expecting the baby to rocket out like a rugby ball and punch a hole through the wall or something?

IrmaFayLear · 24/03/2021 09:49

But the rf have to live in a goldfish bowl, are “trapped” according to Harry and have to turn out multiple times a year on a rainy cold Thursday to open a community centre in dreary corners of the UK. If they have a bit of privilege in return for that, good luck to them.

Samcro · 24/03/2021 09:53

so after all the "he should get a job"
he gets one.
"not that job"
really he can't win,

EsmaCannonball · 24/03/2021 09:57

I guess it's so annoying as he's started lecturing everyone about racism and privilege and then he goes and lands yet another position based upon the very lucky accident of his birth. He's still part of the backslapping circle of society but he's very keen that you should check your privilege.

I'd rather we didn't have a royal family but, as we seem to be stuck with them, it would be good if they did get 'real' jobs, especially the ones who don't have royal duties. Air ambulance pilot was a good one (although I wonder if he would have liked it so much if it was his only source of income) and primary school music teacher was another good one. Let's have more of that kind of thing.

jessstan2 · 24/03/2021 10:02

They've called him Lucas.

Most people have to turn up every single weekday on rainy cold days in dreary corners of the UK - it’s called going to work.

Oh I see - born on Sunday and announced 4 days later today. So they could have announced it Sunday - no that was wrong as that's the baby's birth, Monday - oh no that's a day before lockdown anniversary & Eugenies birthday or Tuesday - no that was Eugenie's birthday and the actual lockdown anniversary or wait Wednesday no... that's the day the Tindall's announced the birth of their baby. Hmmm -!(which day would you have advised Harry & the company to make the announcement) - if that's the case focus on the news that interests you- there is plenty to go round. And if the public were not so obsessed with H&M these silly ideas that any news about them is to block other RF news it would not be an issue. if there is a thread about Zara and the baby even on MN it would not get the same interest as to why or if tH&M are still eating avocados. They gather so much attention because the public are more interested in them than other issues, otherwise they would Not be news. Your interest in them sells and news corporations make a lot of money from the public obsession with H&M. Would the tabloids really be interested if they were not making money out of Publishing any thing about H&M whether true or not. If H&M make an announcement the tabloids / media are the ones who can decide not to publish and if the public do not read it then they will see less and less,
PreparationPreparationPrep · 24/03/2021 10:15

"I must say though that Harry is getting his money’s worth out of that suit. He wears it all the time. "
and if he wore different suits he would be accused of lavish spending like his wife. Hmm

5lilducks · 24/03/2021 11:17

He's employed by a mental health organisation but he can't even help his own wife - oh the irony 🤣

MintyMabel · 24/03/2021 11:46

These kinds of appointments are happening all over the place, not sure why people are picking up on this one in particular.

People deciding he has no skills and will be crap at the job can’t possibly know that. This will be a role created for him, in discussion with the people running the business, it isn’t a role that’s been denied to someone else. So many people screamed that he needs to pay his own way and stand on his own two feet, now he has, that’s not good enough either. What did they expect, that he would take a shift or two at Walmart?

I’m mildly surprised - someone who was unable to help his wife secure the support she needed only 18months or so ago does not strike me as the best fit for the first part of the role.

Another unfair portrayal. He was unable to move an immovable institution to get her help, so he removed her from the situation. That’s what I’d expect any husband to do. Failure would have been to not get help but to change nothing else.

purpleme12 · 24/03/2021 11:55

I'm sure he said in the interview that he was ashamed of her feeling like that though... and he's been championing mental health improvement before now so i still can't understand that

viques · 24/03/2021 12:00

I hope they have agreed to a probationary period. He doesn’t strike me as a good catch as an employee. Apart from the name.

Bit chavvy Flash. I’ve taken a shine to Cillit.

No, if you read the transcript he said that he was ashamed of her needing the help.

Oprah: So then did you tell other people in the family, ‘I have to get help for her. We need help for her’?

Harry: No. That’s just not a conversation that would be had.

Oprah: Why?

Harry: I guess I was ashamed of admitting it to them.

Oprah: Oh.

Harry: And I don’t know whether . . . I don’t know whether they’ve had the same . . . whether they’ve had the same feelings or thoughts. I have no idea. And it’s a very trapping environment that a lot of them are stuck in.

Oprah: You were ashamed of admitting that Meghan needed help?

Harry: Yeah.

diddl · 24/03/2021 13:58

"Another unfair portrayal. He was unable to move an immovable institution to get her help"

Why did he need to move an institution?

He just needed to pick up a phone!
