The royal family

Do you think Oprah didn't ask the right questions.

Lots of subjects were spoken about but I felt that Oprah could have asked for further information.

What questions do you think she should of asked.

My question is to Harry 'why didn't you get Meghan help with her MH if you are a loving husband'

Yes the arrogance of the idea of "collaborating" is truly astounding.

I get M didn't understand, but surely Harry could have managed M's expectations.

They were never on a path to ascendancy - it was a downwards trajectory as William's children become the future. Harry should have explained that to her.

Until in 20 years time when they're on "The Crown" the younger generation are saying "who are they? oh that's Prince George's uncle, I think, although I'm not 100% sure.

Number3BigCupOfTea · 18/03/2021 17:49

How much explaining does it require. I'm Irish, we don't have royalty but we all know enough to understand that it's the oldest child of the oldest child and so on. We can all see that Anne, Andrew and Edward have seemed to become more peripheral than they seemed when I was in my teens and 20s (Now 50). It isn't difficult to grasp at all

GoLightlyontheEarth · 18/03/2021 17:50

If Harry loves his grandmother so much , why is he tolerating the ‘collaborating’ and ‘joint engagements ‘ comments? Surely he can see they are totally and utterly inappropriate?

Blueberries0112 · 18/03/2021 17:52

Because the oldest child of the oldest child don’t always work.
King Edward was the oldest child, the royal line was suppose to go to him...he didn’t have any kids did he?

If he loved her that much. Why would the pair of them done an Oprah interview

I know the queen plans to out live Charles but they could have waited a few years or something

The Charlie Hasbro cartoon and all this other stuff that effects the family must be like a kick in the teeth. Poor woman has spent her life dedicated to the monarchy.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 18/03/2021 17:58

Bet the queen sometimes wishes she only had Anne😉

Marmaladeagain · 18/03/2021 18:04

That's right so Harry was important until William had his first child, then second and now third. So George's children are the line going forward and Harry is who? (harsh, but true).

Always going to happen - the abdication, not the norm, so I don't think generally people expect the younger sibling to one day be the monarch. However, it is a form of service/army type of upbringing that prepares the children for these roles.

One of those things where : if I don't do it, someone else will, so it may as well be me as I want to do a good job of it" type thing.

For all Harry's comment that W and C are trapped, neither would give up the role they've prepared themselves for - so Harry is a little disingenuous there.

Although, TBF they're not going to say to H - it's my burning desire to fulfil the role to the best of my ability are they? H would feel even more hard done by than he does now.

MrsTabithaTwitchit · 18/03/2021 18:07

And yet Anne used to be monumentally unpopular , the press used to be vile to her . She was called the Frown Princess and was cast as rude and grumpy especially in comparison to Diana and once told the press to ‘naff off ‘ and worse .

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 18/03/2021 18:09

My mother is the same age as the Queen, my father would have been slightly older than Prince Philip were he still alive.
If one of my children had done this to my parents I would be furious. I cannot see how any loving grandchild can think that bringing the family into disrepute is a good idea. Now is the time to forgive and forget, and make amends. This will in all likelihood be Prince Philip's last year.
It would be bad enough if they were carrying on like this in private, let alone using the American media.

Definitely would have been a lot easier.

Before Charles and Diana had William, Andrew was second in line to the throne 😱 If Charles hadn't had any children, Andrew could have been King if he outlived Charles, and Beatrice would have been the future Queen.

Maybe he can, but even if he risked pointing this out to his wife, what makes anyone think this would change things?

Given Meghan's emphasis on women having a voice and her use of "my truth" (as opposed to the objective truth), I don't really get the impression she'd be happy to accept guidance which might not suit

IrmaFayLear · 18/03/2021 18:21

Although Andrew would have been on a much tighter rein. It’s always the spare going rogue and causing at best embarrassment and at worst uproar. Although George VI (as he became) seemed content to be out of the limelight with his family; it was the actual heir (Edward VIII) who stuck a spanner in the works that time.

Coronateachingagain · 18/03/2021 18:30

Delivered under a layer of smoky eye

Exactly. Smoky soft and mysterious. Aha she was not going to use her assertive black liner and well delineated makeup this time. But then she is an actress, must know some tricks of the trade.

Buddywoo · 18/03/2021 18:39

Interesting that they were telling 'their truth' and expected it to be accepted as the truth. I remember when the book which Diana collaborated with came out. That was also described as'her truth'. There were a lot of inconsistencies, omissions and untruths in that book but over the years it has come to be accepted by a lot of people as totally true.
I wonder if this will happen with this interview.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 18/03/2021 18:50

@paquerette I forgot that. Oh dear

flossiegrippiter · 18/03/2021 19:02

Yep. Margaret has her wobbles too. Especially when she tried to gain more of a place and was sidelined a bit. Maybe M should have watched The Crown episodes about Margaret!

Meghan was hoping they would "use her" as she said and then become another icon of the British monarchy. But what she did not get is this is not a race, the winner was established long ago. Not about the people within the RF but what they represent. Seems Harry never got it either, you can forgive Meghan but Haz....

GoLightlyontheEarth · 18/03/2021 21:19

Thank God Harry is the ‘spare’. What a disaster it would be if he was going to be King and his wife Queen.

Coronateachingagain · 18/03/2021 21:52

Just another Meghan thread deleted in AIBU. I wonder if they got a warning from the team across the pond. Grin

I don’t believe they do, not from people who don’t read articles about themselves... Grin

I rather suspect it’s because he’s the spare that he is as bitter as he is. Although he’s not known for intelligence and being intelligent is a desired attribute in a monarch.
Coronateachingagain · 18/03/2021 22:02

Well no need to if you have hired a whole team to do it for you 😁

Blueberries0112 · 18/03/2021 22:09

I actually think Harry would make a good King. — I have my reasons

(Don’t argue with me, I already know what everyone is going to say)

Grin still it's keeping someone over there employed!

If you do an interview like that then don't expect speculation to only go one way.

Oh and if anyone is policing from across the pond then a bit of advice, change your PR bods.

Coronateachingagain · 18/03/2021 22:21

Actually that is another question for Meghan.

"When you say you don't read articles about yourself, is it because you have outsourced your social media and image to your team? (Who surely will alert you of any interesting news about you out there)"
