The royal family

What were Harry and Meghan hoping to achieve?

This is an honest question not a chance to bash anyone. I'm curious about why Harry and Meghan would do this and what the consequences could be. They must have realised the massive fall-out this would cause. This could be the end of Harry's relationship with his family. But for what? Sympathy? Increased profiles? Honesty?

Meghan’s PR team informed the bbc that they wanted a diverse group to discuss the Oprah interview

The sheer arrogance!

Lollipop1234 · 11/03/2021 18:03

“Oh don't be ridiculous!! It is not a generation thing at all! Danny Baker knew exactly what he was doing when making such an underhand disgusting racist post! I'm no fan of Megan but what he did was abhorrent and he deserved to be sacked! It was NOT a 'different generation' thing in the slightest!”

I honestly don’t have a clue why he made those remarks, anyone with half a brain would know how they would come across and why would he want to jeopardise his job and risk being cancelled?

Blueberries0112 · 11/03/2021 18:03

She was in her late 30’s so of course she is rushing. Her biological clock is ticking.

DeepThinkingGirl · 11/03/2021 18:09

Blueberries0112

Well she still has my sympathies.

There is no wealth or fame in the world that can compensate me from the idea of feeling secure about my children and my home.

I bet that’s not the life she pictured no. No mother would.

Malteser71 · 11/03/2021 18:11

I don’t think Danny Baker meant to be racist. He’d have to be fucking stupid to post stuff like that and mean it.

IntermittentParps · 11/03/2021 18:38

I also always felt Danny Baker's tweet/image was misconstrued. To me it read as a family who are, whether they like it or not, in the spotlight constantly, being forced to play out their family circus in public. The monkey being, in my reading, an image of the circus/a family being wheeled out for entertainment.

That said, I do think he didn't stop to think that it might be misconstrued, which was a mistake.

LIamaDelRey · 11/03/2021 18:40

Well Danny Baker was fucking stupid. He claimed it was his go-to pic for whenever any posh people had kids and claimed he was lampooning privilege. Elsewhere he claimed it had been about royals vs circus animals. He also said he'd have posted it about anyone.
He's an experienced journalist but claimed he hadn't known which princess had given birth?!
When sacked, then threw dummy out, making out he was being treated differently for being working-class.

Either he is a very stupid man or a very racist one - he said Occam's razor - but in this case, that really could be either or both.

TonyGates · 11/03/2021 18:47

I liked Danny Baker but his tweet was disgusting. I struggle to believe he was that stupid. It was racist and offensive and he deserved to lose his job. Stupid man.

Even if he didn't mean to be racist, it just wasn't very nice. It was nasty.

Impatiens · 11/03/2021 19:04

It was horrible, and his refusal to offer a proper apology only made things worse and gave licence to racists.

eaglejulesk · 12/03/2021 04:58

Excellent post @onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad

Didn't Danny Baker go back to work for the BBC within like 3 months or something?

Mummy195 · 12/03/2021 07:17

@IrmaFayLear

But *@Mummy195* , the questions weren’t a surprise. They knew in advance what was to be discussed. It would have been “nicer” to have said, leave names out of it and cite other falsehoods which maybe weren’t refuted. Naming Kate and the row was a definite personal swipe.
Not according to Oprah. They did not know what the actual questions would be.
Mummy195 · 12/03/2021 07:20

And that reporter shouting out question. He really should have asked Kate why she did not correct the crying story. Or asked why did you make MM cry.

As for William ' We are very much not racist', well he may as well have added 'I have lots of black friend' in the end Hmm

GoLightlyontheEarth · 12/03/2021 07:23

Do you really think they would have answered such very personal questions when they were there to do a job? I though that reporter was very rude.

Mummyoflittledragon · 12/03/2021 07:31

@HmmmmmmInteresting

But for Meghan to sit there in a $5000 dress,

What's wrong with her wearing a $5000 dress? It's like you wearing a 2p dress.

I’ve only read the thread up to this point. Meghan has very expensive clothes tastes. The dress will likely have been bought recently and since they have been making. But that won’t be true of her entire wardrobe. The point about the $5k dress is that it would pay for a lot of security. Charles was still funding them and someone upthread said was also paying for part of their security. Idk when that stopped. But they should not have expected a champagne life style when no longer working royals.

There is such strong opinion on both H+M which doesn’t feel proportionate to their existence as humans on this planet. I do wonder how much influence the media really does have in shaping perception?

That's a bit of a leap. What, specifically, has William done that is racist?

Well, what else is he going to say??? Confused

Not a leap at all. Anyone who has a dash of intelligence knows better than to whitesplain racism
miserablecat · 12/03/2021 08:57

I'm surprised he said anything. When politicians are shouted at in a similar way they often just walk away and ignore it.

GoLightlyontheEarth · 12/03/2021 09:00

I think he was so angry he felt he had to respond. I’m glad he did.

Good article. I would also add that also Meghan embodies the positive qualities that makes the haters recognise that they lack in themselves. She is gorgeous, articulate, intelligent, charming, go-getting, kind, rich. Her husband left the royal family for her while their men leave them on 'message seen' on Whatsapp. Add racism into the mix and the British people collectively lose their damn minds.

IrmaFayLear · 12/03/2021 09:22

I am [hmmm] that you think “gorgeous” and “rich” are necessary qualities for a woman. That’s the vast majority of us completely damned!

The collective British people? Well, that would be you too then, presumably?

Stratfordplace · 12/03/2021 09:28

Re Mm’s $5000 dress, she did allegedlyhold a Sayonara Zara party and gave away her previous wardrobe.
