The royal family

What were Harry and Meghan hoping to achieve?

This is an honest question not a chance to bash anyone. I'm curious about why Harry and Meghan would do this and what the consequences could be. They must have realised the massive fall-out this would cause. This could be the end of Harry's relationship with his family. But for what? Sympathy? Increased profiles? Honesty?

The interview was shameful. I’m not a Royalist. I have no problem with them bringing the Royal family as an institution down.

But for Meghan to sit there in a $5000 dress, complaining about how no one told her how things would work, whilst admitting she did no research, comparing her being told to stay inside a mansion with butlers and maids to attend to her every whim to lockdown and claiming she didn’t know who Harry was nor did she ever google him? Sorry but do fuck off dear.

And the lies. Oh the lies. Archie wasn’t given a title because of his skin colour (even though they were very vocal about him not having a title) The marriage with no witnesses so the real wedding that cost us millions was a sham.

Harry didn’t come across much better. “I’ve been cut off financially from the family” He says as a millionaire who never has to do a days work in his life again if he doesn’t want to. He whines like he was having to sign on.

Harry and Meghan can’t have it both ways. They are like the person who leaves their job but still expects an invite to the office Christmas party and all the perks but not the work.

Sorry but cry me a river.

The interview was great and Piers Morgan resigned. I think we should send them a thank you card.FlowersGrin

I think Prince Charles believes he has supported Harry a great deal financially. Until Harry stopped working. All of this would have been clear to Harry. As for his charity focus on mental health and then failing to obtain help for his wife is unbelievable! Incredible in fact.

I have yet to find anyone who thought Harry looked happy. He seems to know he is still in the family but it’s now the classic situation of unconditional love despite what he’s done and said. Whether he’s liked is another matter. He will have to hang on in there or he loses his children.

Ohdeariedear · 10/03/2021 15:55

Any statement the Queen has put out on this has (I think?) referenced that they remain much loved members of the family. It’s always struck me as quite an emotional turn of phrase from a distinctly unemotional family and I always wonder if it is really some kind of message to Harry that the door is always open once he comes to his senses and realises it’s coercive control. Because I genuinely think it is - he’s been isolated, then removed from his family to another continent.

How does M get on with her own family? I think that’s a red flag.

I'm no contact with my family now, they are toxic people who caused me nothing but pain and I had to go no contact for my own mental health and recovery.

I found Piers' comments and comments like yours to be triggering and lacking any empathy for people in this situation!
How lucky you are to have never had to experience this situation!

lockitdown · 10/03/2021 15:56

I was interested in the part where she put her had on harry's to silence him whilst she answered about any information and training. I think he was about to explain the training she had and she stopped him.

Allington · 10/03/2021 15:58

Hmmm, may be true, may be smart communications staff knowing it will play well with the public. Or, realistically, a bit of both.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 10/03/2021 15:59

But for Meghan to sit there in a $5000 dress,

What's wrong with her wearing a $5000 dress? It's like you wearing a 2p dress.

lockitdown · 10/03/2021 16:01

I thought she looked nice.

RaspberryRoyale88 · 10/03/2021 16:04

Cause wearing a $5000 dollar dress whilst moaning that you are cute off from the family financially appears to me to be foolish and somewhat hypocritical. It’s not like they need the money, it’s not like they can’t afford to pay for their own security. They can. They just don’t think they should have to and they think it’s okay for the Royal family to keep funding them for nothing when they took a step back.

RaspberryRoyale88 · 10/03/2021 16:04

*cut off not cute.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/03/2021 16:06

Harry didnt ask to be born a prince. Being a prince carries risk. The risk is somewhat mitigated by The Firm paying for security.

He has left The Firm but he still has that birth status (of which he did not choose), and that status still carries the risk.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 10/03/2021 16:06

I don't like all this "they wanted privacy but now put themselves on TV". Celebrities are not public property, they should be allowed to live in peace while occasionally doing an interview.

Absolutely this. They never said they wanted privacy. Watch this clip, which was cut out of the interview.

They wanted to be more financially independent.

Sounds like they got more than they bargained for.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 10/03/2021 16:08

So much jealousy

Snugglepiggy · 10/03/2021 16:11

Only just watched.Twice they clearly stated it had been a two year conversation between them leading up to them 'stepping back ' ie not leaving .That's the beginning of 2018.Before they married.Almost certainly before the flower girl fittings.Re wound to check that as like several other things so contradictory.
Ditto the annoyance of Meghan at Archie not being a prince because without it there's no security .Yet later she said clearly she wrote several times when their security was cut off in Canada to beg for security for Harry. She wasn't bothered about it for herself or Archie but wanted to protect her husband.I could understand initially why they would want to lead a different life. But this ? How on earth is this going to offer them more peace of mind,or as importantly more security. In the last year they couldn't have done more to shine a massive spotlight on themselves. I just don't get it.

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/03/2021 16:11

If MM had borrowed one of my £6 Primark dresses, she'd have been slagged of for that. Let's face it, some people are going to be nasty about her and everything she does.🙄

The office desk photo is a good analogy.

Like when Raheem Sterling's girlfriend went to Primark. The week before they were slating him for spending money. 🙄

@lightand

Yes. It's like we don't want to work for the family business but we still want a wage.

But actually I'm thinking MM was pulling the strings not fully understanding that the RF, can be quite ruthless, when they need to be.
Harry has probably told her but she didn't listen.

Am I right in thinking that when they quit they released a statement to the press and that was the first the RF knew?

Butterflyfluff · 10/03/2021 16:19

I agree with many others that the interview simply aimed to raise their profile and future earning opportunities

What I do wonder is what next though?

By burning their bridges with the RF what are they going to do when all the current furore dies down?

They can’t really come out with a load more claims can they?

And given they’re outside of the RF what can they do to hold the public interest, thus generate income?

The only big drama I can foresee would be a divorce.........

He has left The Firm but he still has that birth status (of which he did not choose), and that status still carries the risk.

Being born a prince might bring risk, but it also brings astronomical wealth. He could pay for his own security, like all the non-royal A-listers do.
RaspberryRoyale88 · 10/03/2021 16:27

Jealousy? Why the hell would anyone be jealous of Meghan and Harry??? As far as I can see they are the best example of “money doesn't bring happiness”

I don’t think airing your dirty linen in what was essentially a posh Jeremy Kyle is something to aspire to.
Without their titles and the Royal family, what do they bring to the world? I can’t comprehend why anyone would want their lifestyle.

I’m so tired of any criticism of these two is automatically jealous or racist.

Impatiens · 10/03/2021 16:31

Agree @RaspberryRoyale88 they've got everything material they could want, a lovely little child and another on the way, they've got each other - yet they seem miserable and bitter.

GoLightlyontheEarth · 10/03/2021 16:32

@HmmmmmmInteresting

So much jealousy
Hmm... no . Not from me. I despise the pair of them and wouldn't want their life if you paid me.
