  • George, Charlotte and Louis were made princes and princess by letters patent to get around the "grandchild of monarch" rule. Otherwise they'd have to wait until Charles acceded the throne.

For some reason, Archie was not going to be made a prince at birth in the same way - he would have to wait until Charles acceded and it was automatic by right of law.*

The first Black prince of the Blood of the UK.

That's just deliberately shit isn't it.

It wasn't to get around the 'grandchild of the monarch rule' though. It was to avoid a situation of W+K having a firstborn girl (before they knew George was male) who wouldn't be entitled to be 'Princess' but would be third in line to the throne due to the Succession Act replacing male primogeniture with absolute primogeniture, because the first boy they had (even if after their first child had been a girl) would be HRH Prince RoyalBaby as a result of the Letters Patent from 1917 entitling 'the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales' to be styled as such.

It was to correct a possibly weird situation.. If Charlotte was the eldest she'd have outranked her brothers in terms of line of succession but been outranked by one of them in title, which makes no sense at all and causes difficulty in terms of rank in the family. None of that is relevant in Archie's case, so the normal law applies.

Wow, sooo many jealous people on here, angry with Meghan for no reason. Yes you will never have her beauty, fame, or personality and you will never marry a prince who loves you and your babies more than anything. Accept it. She is a wonderful human being who was treated horribly by the our press and the RF. I really hope they have a beautiful life together with their children.
I won't say I would rather be homeless than marry a prince, but it's pretty damn close. Give up your job, stay stick thin, produce a bunch of heirs whether I want to or not, dress immaculately at all times while not spending too much, say the right thing, walk the right way, be constantly scrutinised and criticised by the press.... I am amazed the RF has managed to sell this as a good thing.
Guylan · 08/03/2021 23:35

Further to my comment above, the removal of Royal titles from five Grandchildren of the King of Sweden it has not affected the two grandchildren who are in direct line to the throne. As it is widely reported Charles wants a slimmed down monarchy, feels possible any discussion to possibly not give Archie a title in the future was this than the shocking accusation that it was because of his potential skin tone - but as said obviously I can’t say for sure.

Living in the USA the checkout aisle has far more magazines devoted to the royal family than you see in the UK. I was really surprised when I first noticed this, it has always struck me as odd.
Oh those magazines were a highlight of our trips, utterly hilarious!
Lipz · 08/03/2021 23:35

The bit I'm confused about is Megan saying she asked for help, Harry asked for help for her, they both asked for help and we're refused. Then Harry comes into interview saying, no he didn't ask for help as it isn't the done thing and that he was ashamed to ask for help.

teentipans · 08/03/2021 23:36

You say the whole dress thing is nonsense but for it a false story to be leaked out from royal sources weeks or months after it happened, smacks of the institution contributing to the horrendous abuse she received by the press.

But in sure you think Megan is lying about it being wrong.

Sorry but for that alone the Rf should have at least made a statement to say the story wasn't true. Because it wasn't just one article it was tens of articles assassinating her character over what you call 'nonsense. So if its all nonsense then the press abuse is quite disproportionate wouldn't you say?

My point exactly!!!

ChocolateSantaisthebestkind · 08/03/2021 23:36

Also, does anyone believe that Archie's favourite word is 'hydrate', my 3yo would never use that, it's not a commonly used word in conversation is it?! Mimicking 'Drive safe' if he's heard his parents say it, but hydrate, no way!

Are you 12?
TaylorSwaft · 08/03/2021 23:38

Cyclingmad by nonsense I more meant it was a thorn in Megan's side, she wanted to put her 'truth' forward, not that she made it up. I fall out with my SIL, she's awful, horrible. That's my side, she thinks I'm a stuck up bitch. That's her side!

In proportion to the other behaviour it was less serious, it was sorted out between them, but she couldn't let it lie.

But yes I agree wholeheartedly the media and press have been horrific all round. And they will profit so hugely from all of the fall out.
It's tragic all around.

itsgettingwierd · 08/03/2021 23:38

@TaylorSwaft

It'sgettinfweird of course they are lovely about the Queen.

What granny gave she can take away.

And they are lawyered up to the hilt, of course, so sticking to the script.

I just don't feel Harry is being anything different to Harry has ever been.

Right back to when he wanted to serve in the front line.

He wears his heart in his sleeve. Always has done.

Interesting about them saying she wouldn't be supported from the off with security. Again it all goes back to William gets stiff as the heir and a Harry isn't afforded equality as the spare.

In fact so far most of this has led to me to think that the palace sovereign funds are not as they once were.
They opened up Buckingham Palace years ago to raise funds.

teentipans · 08/03/2021 23:38

Plus, she is worth several millions is she not? He apparently has at the very least £10 million, possibly up to £40million. Is Netflix really a necessity? I'm not saying they shouldn't do it - do what they like, but his cousins haven't inherited what he has and they seem to be able to pay for their lives and security just fine

Which cousins? Some were paid for & H was left 10m by his mum apparently. E & B security was costing 0.5m a yr so you can see how it adds up.

why are there two versions

Kikitheparot · 08/03/2021 23:39

The racist remark by a royal has been given centre stage.

  1. Harry and Megan do not agree when it was said. Megan claiming it was made when she was pregnant and is relevant to Archie’s lack of title. Harry (to whom the comment was made) saying it was early in their relationship.
  1. They have said that it was not said by the Queen or DofE. Any change to protocol would be the Queen’s decision. Clearly the decision maker on titles and the racist were different people, and Megan is aware of this. It is therefore a huge leap to directly connect that racist comment with the lack of title.
  1. It seems clear it was a horrendous comment by one person, and one person alone. That does not make the entire royal family racists. It could been anyone within the royal family, which includes many elderly and peripheral members.

Harry and Megan need to name the person so that a proper investigation can be conducted.

"And he's not even 2!". Yeah, we get it, he's clever. Well I'd forgive her for that, we're all eejits when it comes to our own children
GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 08/03/2021 23:39

@ChocolateSantaisthebestkind

I also think she watched Diana's interview. I've never seen her wear eye make up like that before.
Oh, for fucks sake.

One search of Google images proves that this is a bunch of shite.

It's a smokey-eyed look, not a conspiracy.

Yeah, he was ashamed to ask for help, why? She didn't trust anyone either. She might have been paranoid. He should have asked for her to be assessed.
Aspiringmatriarch · 08/03/2021 23:41

@Puzzledandpissedoff

Just realised what the other big inconsistency was ... speaking alone, Meghan claimed that the conversation about what the baby's skin colour might be happened when she was pregnant, but later on Harry informed us it was "right at the start"

If that really happened in the way they presented it I'd have thought it would be so shocking, and gone over so often between them, that there's be no way either could forget when it was ... and yet their accounts didn't match

I don't agree that they likely spend all their time going over this stuff and I think it's very credible that things were said at different times and they're both giving their own recollections. The two versions don't even contradict, so not sure why you're picking holes in it, unless you think the whole thing is a fabrication?
teentipans · 08/03/2021 23:41

when excatly did the racist comment happen then-when she was pregnant or before

was it explicitly clear there was only 1 comment?

I have drunk a bottle of wine watching this but am still absolutely miles away from being this inebriated. Can you please let me know what you’ve been drinking so I can put some in this week’s click and collect ?!

I assume they didn't want it in the papers but I do think they must have been able to find a discreet contact.
