Harry & Meghan - to hope the Royals answer back?

I think the allegations in the Oprah interview are serious enough that protocol should be breached and the Royals should have a voice to give their side too.

Heather, I can’t believe you mixed the two up.

They are so utterly dissimilar!

Stoppissingonmyheather · 10/03/2021 01:12

They both have Kent in the name they are both women they both look the same (to me) I bet the nice one of Kent has suffered for years with being confused with the wicked witch of Kent poor thing

Thewinterofdiscontent · 10/03/2021 01:29

I stand corrected, yes the Palace sent a correction to the press over Kates Botox claims. Also these;

In March, there were reports that Markle had told her friends that she had plans to raise her child in a "gender-neutral" way. Shortly after, a spokesperson from Kensington Palace issued a response, stating, "This story is totally false," per Hello! Magazine.

And in December 2018, reports surfaced that Middleton was angry with Markle because she had supposedly treated palace staff members in a rude manner. Shortly after, a Kensington Palace spokesperson told People magazine, "This never happened."

We've still got the sequel to go yet.
Aren't M&H making a Netflix documentary as well?

FastMovingSummerShower · 10/03/2021 08:05

One of the moments that has resonated with me was that when they were discussing Harry feeling trapped in the Royal Family and Oprah pointing out that he always looked so calm, happy and at ease when attending events.

Harry basically said it was his job to look like that and he was usually miserable inside. I wonder what the people he works with at Invictus and Sentebale make of that. All the time they thought he was passionate, involved and interested in what they were saying and really it was an act. It was just work. He would much rather be somewhere else.

He really doesn't think through what he says does he. Like the comment that he had no interest in streaming deals and only signed them to pay for security for his family. What does Spotify and Netflix think of that.

Oldbutstillgotit · 10/03/2021 08:26

Apparently there is another 2 hours of unused material so we may see a follow up or just snippets from time to time .

Another 2 hours! Honestly I don't think I could actually think of enough stuff to say to fit into a 4 hour long interview even accounting for all the ad breaks.
Liquorishtoffee · 10/03/2021 08:32

Maybe they are hoping for a Hollywood style reconciliation follow up. Much tissues, tears and hugs...

Or maybe they will never really speak to the family again, there will be an incredible amount of bad blood and they will only meet at family funerals.

I know some families do this - of course they do - and I’ve known friends who have met a new partner, and their world then centred their partner and everyone else can go hang.

Why would you do a Hollywood ‘interview’ (of course it wasn’t - nothing was queried or followed up) knowing that it will blow up your family? Talk about burning bridges. This was personal - not an expose of how awful the royal family are.

IrmaFayLear · 10/03/2021 08:42

I agree @FastMovingSummerShower . What a slap in the face for his projects. And even for the mayor of Dulltown he met on a wet Thursday when opening their elderly community centre. We might all know they’re “on” as Harry said, but to come out and say these events are boring as f**k is shallow and unpleasant.

In fact Harry does sound absolutely spoilt. He has swapped his gilded life in the UK with some “duty” thrown in for an equally gilded life in the US - being feted, large staff and luxurious lifestyle - it no dreary old members of the public.

redspecial · 10/03/2021 09:26

I agree too @FastMovingSummerShower. what does this say to his projects, and everyone he's ever visited officially, apart from that he hated every minute.

Harry is your typical yoghurt. they're rich and they're thick. Harry Enfield's 'Tim Nice-But-Dim was so funny because we all know at least one.

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/03/2021 09:54

Typical yoghurt Grin brilliant!

LadyEloise · 10/03/2021 10:08

The cream of the country - rich and thick is what's said in Ireland.

FastMovingSummerShower · 10/03/2021 10:11

Very interesting piece in Times - which covers the flower girl dress incident.

Meghan said in the interview Kate made her cry but then apologised and sent flowers. True in a literally sense maybe.

She missed out the rest of the story though... The dresses were to be altered a week before the wedding and Meghan gave Kate times. Kate asked to come at a different time and Meghan said it was not possible. Kate came at the required time and Meghan was very rude and unpleasant. Kate was upset and left in tears. William intervened to try and calm things and the next day Kate went over with flowers. Meghan slammed the door in her face...

Now I know this is just another version of events. It really makes you question things though.

@redspecial Harry with those comments instantly destroys the magical fairy dust of Royalty. For what for some people could have been a once in a lifetime event and a very special occasion (meeting a Prince) - which was all smiles and warmth is now revealed to be Harry going through the motions, 'switching it on' (his own words) for the cameras... meaningless

Diana for all her faults would never have said something like that. She would have said she might be dying inside at times but those moments of genuine human interaction with ordinary people were what made it worthwhile (whether that was true or not)..

IrmaFayLear · 10/03/2021 10:29

I agree. Does Harry think his mother was being “on” with all the people she met? False, in other words?

I really don't think so! The Duchess was from a wealthy 'trade' family in the north of England, and was much loved by my Mum and many of her generation. She had a late miscarriage/stillbirth, and suffered with understandable MH problems and turned to the Catholic Church. She became an anonymous piano teacher - Mrs. Kent, and is very rarely seen with the rest of the RF.

Princess Michael married Prince Michael (in Vienna?) out of the UK, as she was a divorcee. Very glamorous but seemingly disliked by many in the RF - they have commented that she is 'a bit grand for us'. She is also the one with the unpleasant jewellery! She is the one who commented that they'd travel anywhere for a free meal.

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/03/2021 10:46

The "switching it on" thing almost seems pathetic to mention. Maybe this is just my perception but surely switching it on is part of almost every client facing job? It's not some special hardship of being Royal that you have to smile and be friendly when you're not in the mood, it's normal grown up working life.

I thought that too. I used to be a teacher and there were many days I felt like crap and didn't want to be 'on' but with a classroom full I had no choice. I certainly wouldn't have then turned round to the parents and said I didn't want to be there and it was all an act, can you imagine the MN threads if a teacher admitted such a thing! Surely 99% of jobs require an element of being 'on' his job is certainly not unique in that regard.
MrPickles73 · 10/03/2021 11:13

FastMovingSummerShower do you mind to copy and paste the Times article please and I don't have a subscription. Thank you. Blush

FastMovingSummerShower · 10/03/2021 11:14

Totally and the comment about 'oh the cars and bikes are outside' time to switch on as if it was the hardest job in the world. So out of touch.

How I would love to to only have to get myself ready, stroll out to a waiting car and be guided through every moment of work barely having to do more than smile and nod. No one screaming demands at me. Everyone agreeing with everything I said with stars in their eyes. And it is not even everyday - once or twice a week probably at most. So deluded.

Stoppissingonmyheather · 10/03/2021 11:16

@ajandjjmum oh well only me then I never knew there were 2 till yesterday so forgive my ignorance and muddling and yes the Mrs Kent one is lovely the other one is a racist

LadyEloise · 10/03/2021 11:21

The lovely Duchess of Kent used to present the trophy to the Ladies Singles winner at Wimbledon. Her daughter is Lady Helen Taylor.
Princess Michael of Kent is the mother of Lady Gabriela Windsor who got married fairly recently PMofK is the mother in law of Sophie Winkleman, she of Peep Show fame.
