Harry & Meghan - to hope the Royals answer back?

I think the allegations in the Oprah interview are serious enough that protocol should be breached and the Royals should have a voice to give their side too.

Did you see the woman reporter on TV this morning saying that twice the Palace had phoned her to ask her to not publish a negative story about William, and if she agreed to cover up the story then they'd give her a negative story about Harry in exchange?

That's breathtakingly bad.

FedNlanders · 09/03/2021 18:57

@PheasantPlucker1

Kate and Maghan crying - one had just given birth, one was about to have a huge public wedding in a foreign country.

Id cry at the slightest thing if I was in either situation!

My sil has made me cry and me made her cry, we are still friends, its just been an immensely stressful few years.
Same4Walls · 09/03/2021 18:59

A listers are savvy people, they won't like to be too close to people so thin skinned who run their mouths off to the world for exposure.

That's a very interesting point. I don't suspect its occured to them that most people they would want to associate with in America will probably go nowhere near them for fear of every comment being misinterpreted or used as ammo against them in future.

Twintub · 09/03/2021 19:00

The royal family won’t enter a media tit for tat as evidenced by the press release they have made. I suspect the queen has more pressing concerns as it’s looking very unlikely Prince Philip will come home.

The concern about colour could have been as simple as discussions other mixed race families have said they have had With on other threads about this or it could have been voicing a concern about whether they would face racially motivated attacks from media and public. I don’t really think any close family member would make a deliberately racist remark to Harry. I think it’s all very sad initially I think everyone thought this is great, a breath of fresh air and sadly it’s been anything but. They either should have named the family member or not mentioned it at all.

PowerhouseMamma · 09/03/2021 19:00

A dignified response.

I read it as:

Sorry to hear that you are not happy.
We've had a quick chat with everyone, Wills and PC, and the staff and a lot of them heard the comments, but it has totally been taken out of context.
We don't air our dirty laundry in public and we won't be engaging in Jeremy Kyle style antics in the media

You are family and we love you, but from now on we will refer to you as Harry and Meghan as you are not fit to have royal titles.

PheasantPlucker1 · 09/03/2021 19:01

@CarrotIsApple

Why are the billying claims a public matter but racist comments being 'being discussed in pvt'? #Asking4aFriend
At a guess, because one was an official complaint to an employer which named Meghan and her behaviour.

One was a comment during a TV interview which named a "person" who said something, but the Firm dont know who or what.

I think M&H have every right to a public enquiry if they want that but theyd have to choose that for themselves.

missbridgerton · 09/03/2021 19:08

I think the statement was incredibly well worded, and is pouring sand over the flames rather than throwing petrol.

Well played, your Majesty.

shamalidacdak · 09/03/2021 19:10

Well done Queenie. I'll be sorry when she's gone, Charles is not a patch on her.

saracorona · 09/03/2021 19:10

Well they have put out a small statement now but before that I was going to say! I wouldn't make a statement yet but would try to make contact with Harry and Meghan first. After that I'd would do an internal investigation and find out who, what, how and context. If someone owns up, well they apologise! In person would be best! If no one owns up then I would take the risk and ask them publicly if H&M refuse to talk privately. It is an all white family with little experience of varying black communities so there's bound to be something that will require some education and a sincere apology. However I can guarantee that nothing will appease H&M unless it comes with a lot of millions. That and a Title and being included in big events and using the Royal brand when it suits them. I don't support or want a royal family but I feel for the Queen only because she is human and very old, her husband is in hospital and now this!

Lol this! And now that parliament is getting involved combined with the MM bullying enquiry and alleged charity fraud, I think they'll be detitled forthwith

Sounds about right Grin

Archie in a few years time...

So mom, some kid at school told me that daddy was a prince and lived in a castle?
Yes
And his big brother - who I’ve never met - is the king of England???
Yes
And aunty Katie is a Queen???
Yes
With a crown?
And cousin Charlotte is a princess - for real?
Uhuh
And cousin George is gonna be king one day?
That’s right
And he lives in a castle with servants and everything?
Yes dear
So where’s my bloody castle?

Poor Louis. Even Archie forgets him. 😥
Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/03/2021 19:33

There's nothing else they could really do - H&M have shown they have a massively grudge, are willing to use the biggest media available, and will lie. How else do you deal with that but to try to de-escalate and hope they bugger off?

Makes sense to me

FWIW I've no respect for the behaviour of H&M or the rest of the RF, but in the face of a load of unsubstantiated allegations and inconsistencies I don't know what else they could have done

Backed by lawyers the RF's questions may well be a lot harder to answer than Oprah's, and seen in a generous light, keeping it private may even save H&M further embarrassment if they can't back up their claims

As long as they don't go running back to Oprah of course ...

Kimye4eva · 09/03/2021 19:36

I'm saying that it's my opinion that William probably made the offending remark - and it was likely as offensive as Harry took it to be.

I disagree. I think it was a minor royal and they didn’t say who because no one will really give a sh1t about something Peter Phillips/Princes Michael of Kent/some distant cousin said.

Twintub · 09/03/2021 19:38

I think the comment was made by Princess Ann not sure why but then taken massively out of context

user1978366282 · 09/03/2021 19:39

I thought 'while some recollections may vary' was British for 'you big fat liar' . lol
Well played by the Palace. Not pandering to these attention grabbing wokies airing the dirty laundry of the british royal family on an American talk show while spreading their woke nonsense of 'spread compassion', a message which doesn't seem to extend to either of their own families.

The Palace was right to say it is a private matter that will be dealt with as such. With 'while recollections may vary', what they're effectively saying is that it is one person's word against another's........

Emmelina · 09/03/2021 19:42

That’s a very carefully worded statement!
“While some recollections may vary” - ie, nobody else remembers it that way but you do you, we’re just acknowledging your moan. And taking care of it privately means we can expect no more from them officially I think.

redspecial · 09/03/2021 19:42

I don't think they'll remove their titles of Duke & Duchess, or the earldom and bart. Even if they couldn't find Sussex on a map. It will take an act of parliament, and if they remove them Harry's title is Prince by birth, so M would use her title of Princess Harry. To an American audience, a Princess is loads better than a duchess.

Line of succession - they may boot him off that who knows. I doubt it.

If things go to shit in America they will never be homeless, Charles won't see his grandchildren suffer for his son's choices, they will always have very comfortable lives.

Archie will be a prince once his GF becomes king. They do it this way so that HMQ's GGC are not all princes and princesses and on and on.

Number3BigCupOfTea · 09/03/2021 19:44

Im Irish so not invested in to the queen but omg that was a class response 👸

Sadsiblingatsea · 09/03/2021 19:45

I’d like to hear more from the victims of the bullying. So much has been hushed up to protect this couple.
I’ve never been keen on Harry ever since seeing the photo of him posing next to the dead water buffalo he’d just shot.

user1978366282 · 09/03/2021 19:47

Given everything MM said about how she doesn't care about the grandeur and stuff and how they think the RF is racist and horrible and unsupportive etc - I don't understand why they don't relinquish their titles and why do you still want your son to have a title. It's not for security reasons as they claim - because come on, you can get security for him, all you need is money.

If the RF is as bad and as racist and as toxic as they claim it is, relinquish your damn titles and stop wanting your son to be a part of it!

PowerhouseMamma · 09/03/2021 19:48

'while some recollections may vary'

Or,

FFS Harry. What the actual F are you going on about?

I reckon the offending racist was someone under 6 and Harry doesn't want to make a child cry by outing them.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 09/03/2021 19:49

The interview was less about the royal family and more about making a living in America to support their family in a billionaire life style. They couldn't delay the interview because of Philip. Why? This week George Floyd's jury is picked. We are seeing the rise of America new royal family. Well at least some publicist somewhere is hoping.

BluesInTheSun · 09/03/2021 19:49

Mumsnet new low, gaslighting is acceptable as long as it’s done to a person of colour. They admitted that the conversation was had in a way that indulge the public’s white British need to downplay racism (it was taken out of context, it was just casual, it was just banter, totally innocent). The palace would not have leaked old bullying accusations if the RF was not at fault.
