I had Pippa dolls in the 1970s, and one was black.

They may have important things to say, but getting the details wrong undermines the message

Onceuponatimethen · 01/10/2020 20:50

I had a little black baby doll in the 80s - I named her Ruby. She’s probably still in the attic actually!

Erictheavocado · 01/10/2020 21:24

As a child starting school in the mid 60's, there were several black dolls in the 'home corner' in my infant school class. And more recently, around 25 years ago, I remember shopping for dolls/books/jigsaws etc with a friend who was setting up as a childminder and wanted to have suitable toys and books for all the children she was minding. We had no trouble at all finding suitable items in toys r us. I would be surprised if it was especially difficult to find suitable toys and games now.

Maireas · 01/10/2020 21:29

Sometimes I'm surprised at how ill informed they are, eg about the Commonwealth. A lot of what they no one could disagree with ie racism, equality etc, but they're so pompous and ignorant it's annoying.

MissEliza · 01/10/2020 21:43

I have a 12 year old dd and I have to say, I didn't notice many black dolls on offer when toy shopping for her but I do remember them when I was a child. I also recall going to buy a 6th birthday card for a black friend of DD's and feeling dismayed that little girls cards were dominated by white Disney princesses. It must be hard to grow up in that environment. H has fuck all knowledge about it though. I'm extremely sympathetic to people who have grown up feeling different but I'll let them speak about their experiences for themselves not act like I know how they feel.

STOP PRESS

Harry has told The Queen that she is eating the quails eggs all wrong, and they should be lightly poached rather than sucked.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 01/10/2020 22:36

My mum was given a black doll as a child (her only doll) around 1930 and loved it so much she kept it all her life. I have it still.

peachsquish · 01/10/2020 22:47

Another one whose mum had a black baby doll. She was born in 1944 and they lived in the NW in a small village.

I couldn't get my head around Harry's comments about the diversity of London, that you think it is a Diverse city but when you get out and about and speak to people you realise it is not that diverse...

Shows what an absolute bubble he has always lived in and how out of touch he is. He can only be referencing his own experiences of being in London and talking to crowds that turn up to see him - that are invariable predominantly white.

I noticed that they kept referencing how their jobs and the travel they have done, and the people they have met give them some sort of insight that they feel compelled to share. It is all so patronising.

lifestooshort123 · 02/10/2020 06:05

He would change his mind if he travelled on public transport in London. What an idiot. This appeared in my news feed - the DM have their ducks in a row...

That's a good article by Sarah Vine in the Daily Mail (I never thought I'd write that!). She makes excellent points about racism, but also about Harry. Very true.

Snugglepiggy · 02/10/2020 07:44

I have just watched the interview and Meghans very first gushing words 'I had no idea there was a Black History month in the UK! 'Well no .If you had stuck around long enough and visited some actual schools up and down the UK and got to know some teachers like my DD before you wrote us all off you would have known.Patronising doesn't even come close as a description. And to think I was genuinely excited she was becoming a member of the RF.

Oldbutstillgotit · 02/10/2020 07:52

That list of details ! I really don’t know how MM is going to wriggle out of this .
I know OS is to be called as a witness but what about his co - author ? She seems to have disappeared! .

Will be interested to hear what Omid has got to say about his book being called 'anodyne' and 'inaccurate' by Meghan's lawyer!

So clearly Black History Month wasn’t of interest to her during the brief period of time she lived in the U.K. (and she was here for two of them).

I’m much more interested to hear from Carolyn.

Excellent article by Trevor Phillips in The Times today

The comment about black history month in the uk is hilarious. I grew up in the east end and it’s the most diverse place I can think of, we had black history month each year and even CBeebies talks about it.. she’s a fucking idiot lol. How can she not see how stupid this makes her look? She obviously was t interested in black history month herself if she didn’t know it’s the done thing here. Harry is a lot more dumb than I once though too, I’m more annoyed at him and his ignorance than hers.

Mummy195 · 02/10/2020 09:51

I understood that to mean before she lived in the UK.

London has pockets in terms of diversity. Around Belgravia, Sloane Square etc. are very white. There is a smattering of other BAME when you go further down to World's End. Edgware Road is mostly Middle Eastern people. A lot of black people will be found in places like Camberwell, Lewisham etc.

Harry was born in the UK, so I see no reason why he would not be involved in charities and empowerment here. This was to raise awareness for NexGen Trailblazers Awards.

Sounds like you are speculating about when she meant it. Why wouldn’t she say it was before she lived in the U.K. if that was the case then, instead of giving every impression that she hadn’t known and had just found out? Surely even you can see that it doesn’t look good for her to be implying to people that Black History Month wasn’t something she was aware of? So she either didn’t know about Black History Month or put together and said a badly phrased and incorrect speech. Neither is a good look.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/10/2020 10:09

On a slightly different tack, and since someone mentioned travel, what happened to Travalyst? Is it still going or was that just one more here today gone tomorrow "initiative"?

Come to that, what's the story on their alleged intention to support everyone through Covid? We don't seem to have heard much about the recently either

Add into that that MM claimed not to know about Black History Month and it's clear how out of touch they are. Just plain embarrassing now.
