I’m not damning him on his education or his academic achievements, but his manners.

Wouldn’t everyone here be irritated if you met someone who had moved to the UK a few months ago who started lecturing you on voting and British politics? I know I would bristle.

Maireas · 24/09/2020 17:04

I'm puzzled as to why they are upset re photos on HM's Christmas Speech. There were no photos on the desk, but when HM said "this year we welcomed our 8th great grandchild" they showed that lovely photo of HM, Philip and Doria with Harry, Meghan and Archie. They haven't done that for every new great grandchild eg Lena.
That story cannot be true?

Trut · 24/09/2020 17:09

@IrmaFayLear, I agree😃 it is a ‘top banana’ plus trailing spouse syndrome. I think a number of men and women feel disoriented when they move to a new country and have no ‘role’ as such...I’ve met quite a few over the years. It doesn’t come from a bad place though, just wanting to belong in their new country.

MissEliza · 24/09/2020 17:31

@Trut

Yes, you only have to go to the Living overseas board to see how difficult and lonely it can be after the initial adrenaline has worn off.
This is so true. I went overseas to be with my dh and I remember an elderly neighbour, who had worked all over the world, telling me exactly that. I thought I knew better but he was absolutely right.

@Iknowthingsthatwillhappen

I agree that we should all be encouraged to vote and have no problem with that at all, I do take issue with Harrys implication that he is not allowed to vote in the UK though.
This. Having listened to his actual words, I think they are pretty misleading (especially to an American audience who may not be so familiar with the need for the Royal family to be impartial). He could have always chosen to vote if he gave up all his privilege. Surely that would have been the obvious choice if he valued the right to vote so much?
Maireas · 24/09/2020 18:12

Also, there was nothing legally to stop him voting, as it is convention and custom. He's not even the heir.

Lockupyourbiscuits · 24/09/2020 18:14

I agree the implication is he has not been allowed to vote - it is misleading - he could have voted at any time he just didn’t want to leave the trappings of royalty
Seriously no one tied him to his heritage and privilege he could have left any time
Disingenuous and poor me again !

Viviennemary · 24/09/2020 18:18

There was absolutely nothing in law that stopped Harry from voting.

cyclingmad · 24/09/2020 18:19

Right now I have more respect for them than I do for our Queen who despite having millions, is being bailed out by the government judt because her investments have gone down due to covid. There are people losing their homes, jobs, everything they built up and she has more than anyone and is getting bailed out.

Wow my investments are being hammered...where is my bailout.

Jaxsbum · 24/09/2020 19:05

Just heard on the news what trump said.
What a vile man.

Roussette · 24/09/2020 19:18

@Jaxsbum

That's Trump for you! I take no notice, given he maligns anyone who doesn't kiss his arse

Viviennemary · 24/09/2020 19:59

They started it as far as I'm aware. So all Donald Trump has said is that he doesn't care for them too much either. Which is fair enough IMHO.

Roussette · 24/09/2020 20:04

They said 'vote' no more no less
IMHO

HarryDaylight · 24/09/2020 20:12

@Viviennemary

There was absolutely nothing in law that stopped Harry from voting.
So Harry wasn't barred from voting? Why is he meddling in the US elections? He should keep his royal nose out of foreign politics while he's using his Duke of Sussex title to feather his nest.
Roussette · 24/09/2020 20:16

Read the thread. Not quite like you're saying

thefatladyscreams · 24/09/2020 20:17

This is his quote for those of you who haven’t seen it:

"But many of you may not know that I haven't been able to vote in the UK my entire life.‘

Totally disingenuous.

I said he was lying earlier in the thread but was told I was wrong. I still stand by the fact he lied. He can vote in the U.K. and either hasn’t out of choice or in face has quietly voted which is something nobody would be aware of due to the secrecy involved.

A very sweeping and unnecessary accusation and statement.

Viviennemary · 24/09/2020 20:45

The thread where every poster respects each other. Confused

CallmeAngelina · 24/09/2020 20:48

""But many of you may not know that I haven't been able to vote in the UK my entire life.""

That ABSOLUTELY implies that he has been forbidden in some way. Bang out of order. (Not to mention that "his entire life" is irrelevant, as he would only have been eligible since the age of 18 anyway).

Surely the royal family will pull him up on that statement?
