Ohhhh so you’ve now changed the goalposts once more — first it was “Harry and Meghan must get a job, as soon as they’re no longer financially dependent on the UK taxpayer the hate will stop and we’ll leave them alone.”

Then it was “Harry and Meghan must get a job, but it must be a job that they landed without any possibility the people who hired them were impressed by their backgrounds. Only then will the hate stop and we’ll leave them alone.

And now it’s, “Harry and Meghan must get a job, it must be a job that we think they landed without the possibility the people who hired them were impressed by their backgrounds, and also it must not be a job they’re doing because they want to earn money. Only then will we leave them alone and the hate will stop.”

No matter what they do the hate will never stop because you’ll never stop moving the goalposts, so why not become super wealthy and famous and do the work your passionate about l? Like anyone would turn down a million dollar high profile Netflix deal.

MissEliza · 23/09/2020 23:30

There's literally no job they can get H could definitely get a job as a helicopter pilot but I don't think that would pay the bills. Therefore, they have to pursue roles they're not qualified for.

cyclingmad · 23/09/2020 23:44

Plenty of people in my workplace who aren't qualified for their roles....havent seen a hate campaign against them yet demanding they pursue jobs they can do....Grin

StartupRepair · 24/09/2020 01:26

Neither of them has produced a documentary before so they were hardly leaning on past professional experience.

Kokeshi123 · 24/09/2020 02:35

Always puzzled at celebrities, actors etc. who seem convinced that weighing in on political debates will sway people. We're living at a time when COVID19 (the pandemic itself, and the fact that we are all staring down the barrel of a deep recession) and concern about environmental degradation are fraying people's nerves and creating anger and frustration at wealthy people. That said, if Meghan wants to encourage people to vote, well, that's her right. She might be better advised to use the name "Meghan Markle" and keep Harry out of it, though.

I don't think they have to formally drop their titles (via Act of Parliament) in order to stop using them? Camilla is "technically" the Princess of Wales but chooses not to use that title, even in official matters. If someone is writing up a post on social media, there is no reason why they can't simply opt to go by "Harry and Meghan" and ignore the Duke and Duchess titles.

Andylion · 24/09/2020 05:11

Perhaps William's pitch included some restrictions because of his position and that is the reason it was rejected by Netflix.

lifestooshort123 · 24/09/2020 07:42

I'm pleased they got the Netflix deal as they have to earn a small fortune to support their desired lifestyle so being a teacher or helicopter pilot wouldn't pay enough. The bosses at Netflix are not stupid and must reckon they are worth the quoted sums so good luck to them. The video with them on a park bench somewhere is annoying because it's not Harry's place to add comments in support of Meghan about voting in the US but most of us on here don't appear to have a problem with Meghan having a voice. It might help this thread move along if people could accept it isn't always about her - Harry should have kept quiet on this one.

MissEliza · 24/09/2020 08:07

Harry is an absolute embarrassment by making the comments he did. I couldn't believe it when I read them. I

Guymere · 24/09/2020 08:33

Not sure if this has been posted about already, but Meghan’s sacked her barrister. David Sherborne QC is no longer representing her against the Mail on Sunday. He didn’t do well enough in the opening skirmishes apparently. This is in the Times Law pages today. She’s appointed his rival apparently!

lakeswimmer · 24/09/2020 08:33

In the interest of keeping this thread on an even keel - I think the liberal use of "hate" is really unhelpful. It's being completely devalued as it's chucked at anyone who dares comment on someone else's behaviour (not just in this thread but on MN and social media generally). The only exception seems to be if they are white, male and heterosexual in which case they're fair game (unless they're Harry)

I don't hate anyone at all. Just because I think Harry might not be best placed to comment on voting doesn't mean that I hate him or Meghan.

In the same way, just because I comment on someone who is a particular sex, ethnicity, religious group, sexuality, gender identity doesn't mean I'm a misogynist, homophobe, racist etc. It's perfectly possible to be female/muslim/gay/transgender and also be an idiot. The two things are not (necessarily) related.

An example of this was a recent Twitter thread by Benjamin Cohen (editor of Pink News) which was followed on the FWR boards. He was having his arse handed to him on a plate but of course he tried to suggest that it was because his detractors are all homophobes rather than because he's a hypocritcal twat Grin

I think Trump realises it. A lot of us realise it. The Royals certainly realise it. This is a disaster for Harry.

Oldbutstillgotit · 24/09/2020 09:15

Has @froggygoneacourting supplied a source about Netflix rejecting William’s documentary?
I may be wrong but I suspect that H and M have agreed to a Diana film. If so I would imagine BP lawyers are at the ready .

GetOffYourHighHorse · 24/09/2020 09:35

I am not a Trump fan but his withering comments were funny. Of course H&M won't profess to give a rat's ass about anything he says but I bet it stung this very thin skinned pair nonetheless.

I quite liked the palace's curt response too 'he isnt a working royal, his opinions are his own' Grin.

What a monumental prat H is.

Jaxsbum · 24/09/2020 09:40

@froggygoneacourting

I genuinely believe it would.

Genuinely, why?

For months it was “if Meghan stopped being a working royal the hate would stop.”

Then it was “if they stopped using their HRHs.”

Then it was “if they paid back Frogmore.”

Then “if they got a job and earned their own money.”

They’ve done literally every single thing that’s been asked of them, and the haters keep changing the goalposts.

No one really cares about a title, it’s just another thing to beat them over the head with. If they gave it up, I’m very certain we’d have threads breast-beating about how awful Meghan is to snub the Queen and then you’d all find some other reason to attack her.

Really good post.
Dairyfine · 24/09/2020 09:42

..... and now it's America's Got Talent. She certainly knows how to keep a low profile.

'and now it's America's Got Talent. She certainly knows how to keep a low profile.'

Criiiinge. The pair of them! They wanted to back off and have a quiet life, diddums. Hmm. Or, actually they wanted to use the massive platform the RF gave them to be celebs in the US and get the adulation they deserve!!!

LanaArcher · 24/09/2020 09:53

The AGT contestant’s story is really heartbreaking and he has really been hell. As for Trump not surprised, he feels badly for a Ghislaine Maxwell.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 24/09/2020 09:58

'The AGT contestant’s story is really heartbreaking '

They're always heartbreaking! It js just typically virtue signalling/attention seeking to pop on to a talent show to pat someone on the head and I'd say the same if Kate or the Queen did it.

Roussette · 24/09/2020 10:02

@clearedfortakeoff

And who would that be?
Those that don't buy into the scenario that H&M are the spawn of the devil?

Personally I thought threads were for discussion and that in turn would be dissenting opinions or do you just want a thread purely for only negative opinions about them?

I could turn that comment back on you and say these threads are always dominated by the same old 2 or 3 posters rambling on with the same old criticisms

Roussette · 24/09/2020 10:06

Exactly! Given Trump's adulation of some of the worst people to walk this earth, (Putin, Erdogan, Kim Jong Un et Al) I wouldn't be taking much notice of his opinion

Roussette · 24/09/2020 10:07

Ooops sorry that was meant to be boldened not underlined of your name!

IrmaFayLear · 24/09/2020 10:12

Why on earth are they weighing in with comments on America’s Got Talent? How tacky . I know they have to keep their profile up but really.

What happened to living the simple life away from publicity? It’s all a bit bizarre, really.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 24/09/2020 10:18

'Exactly! Given Trump's adulation of some of the worst people to walk this earth, (Putin, Erdogan, Kim Jong Un et Al) I wouldn't be taking much notice of his opinion'

Yes of course you're right. It was funny though and justified. They started it Grin. Bet Harry will need a gallon of chamomile tea to calm him down, he'll be fummin.
