@rousette

I'm sure you won't mind that your excellent link gets 'pinned'.

Some of the things MM did before marrying H.

@cheezy you’re allowed bare shoulders for evening wear. You’re not allowed to expose your shoulders during religious or ceremonial occassions, such as during the Trooping the Colour.

AlphabetABC · 30/07/2020 19:28

I read somewhere that Meghan Markle was also a big fan of the Kennedy/Bessette wedding. She liked the optics of it.

SilkandSandwiches · 30/07/2020 19:29

Not a particularly happy marriage, if I recall correctly? Though a very aesthetically pleasing marriage.

HarryDaylight · 30/07/2020 19:30

Absolutely stunning. Roussette

Serenster · 30/07/2020 19:32

I couldn't't tell you how many times I saw that photo before I realised she (Carolyn Bessette Kennedy) is wearing gloves.

She is beautiful in that dress, but there are very few of us would be able to wear it as she does!

Roussette · 30/07/2020 19:32

Funnily enough, I have read about her before. I think she found the press attention more than she could bear, which reportedly took a toll on the marriage.

I like the optics of it too!

ButteryPuffin · 30/07/2020 19:33

Supposedly the Kennedys (John and Carolyn B) had lots of problems. Due to tragic events there's no knowing how that would have worked out in the long run.

I am not a big fan of that look for myself or for a royal wedding, but I do recognise that it became a Look and was hugely iconic in style.

Roussette · 30/07/2020 19:33

There are just some images that are captivating and I think that's one of them, sorry to say maybe because of the horrendous untimely ending of such a beautiful couple.

AlphabetABC · 30/07/2020 19:36

I wonder if MM would have preferred to have married ino the American royal family i.e the Kennedys rather than the British Royal Family.

Yes I remember being horrified when I heard the news of their helicopter crash. They had it all. So sad.
TheNavigator · 30/07/2020 19:39

I am sure MM married the man she loved - presumably if she had fallen for a Kennedy she would have married one. Or are you trying to suggest she was on the prowl? Behave.

ButteryPuffin · 30/07/2020 19:39

I would imagine so, if a palatable option was there, @AlphabetABC. I would think MM would be enthusiastic about being a political wife.

TheNavigator · 30/07/2020 19:39

Sorry, my post was in reply to AlphabetABC - this thread moves fast!

TheNavigator · 30/07/2020 19:40

Let us at least assume M & H married because they fell in love?

Ashley Cole?! Really?! Grin Grin

ButteryPuffin · 30/07/2020 19:43

Love's not the only consideration when marrying a high profile person though is it? Chelsy Davy decided it wasn't for her. Princess Margaret decided her love for Peter Townsend didn't override other considerations.

Samcro · 30/07/2020 19:48

Sorry but n the prowl is horrid.
Whats wrong with looking for love.
((((Hoiks bosom)))

Christ, she had a lucky escape.

Grin If I wasn't on the positive thread I might say 'better match', but I am, so I'll leave it.

It was apparently Meghan's then friend, Lizzie Cundy, who tried to set it up.

I was quoting another poster.

She might have enjoyed being a WAG more than being a duchess.

Mominatrix · 30/07/2020 20:01

@Roussette

Not sure.. reminds me a bit of that film midsummer! Oh heck, don't remind me of that !

One of my favourite images of a wedding is this one. They were American royalty. J F Kennedy Jr, and Carolyn Bessette. It's sleeveless, backless, the lot, but beautiful to my eyes.So poignant as they both died in a helicopter crash less than 3 years later.
A moment in time...

Yes, they managed a very private and quiet wedding with only 35 guests and less than a handful of photos published.

Quiet lives can be had if people truly want it.

mrscampbellblackagain · 30/07/2020 20:01

I think it is disingenuous to suggest that any established woman in her 30's wouldn't take a lot into account when choosing a husband.

I am sure the fact that Harry was a Prince added to his allure. In the same way that being rich/powerful/ambitious/successful makes a lot of people more attractive. And no judgement here for that.

Have been watching Indian matchmaker on Netflix and actually think there is a lot of sense in being slightly 'sensible' when choosing a spouse.

Carolyn Bessette wanted a quiet life, she never got it because of press intrusion. Well reported.
