Since they are in the news more or less daily why not a thread on this. Latest I've read over the last few days is that Meghan is going to produce a film from a book. And later this month she is teaming up with Michelle Obama for project on gender equality. Both sound interesting projects.

Yay another thread that will be full of posters ripping M to bits.

AnneOfQueenSables · 08/07/2020 19:36

Do we know which book?
I actually think film and feminism projects will both be a good fit for Meghan.

mrscampbellblackagain · 08/07/2020 19:45

I reckon Harry is more the object of derision now to be fair.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/07/2020 19:45

Is it perhaps this one, Anne - although the story seems to have come from one of the Sun's "sources" so a bit of caution might be wise

Viviennemary · 08/07/2020 19:57

That's the one puzzled. It sounds an interesting plot. But I might have chosen a less outlandish name for the lead than Maverick Johnson Scott. Still what's in a name. I read the first two pages which is on Amazon.com. some of it was dire but if you get past that it might be a winner. Who knows.

Thanks Puzzled yy it doesn't seem to have been verified by anyone involved.

It sounds like a name you'd see on the sort of novels they SELL in airport racks Wink

At least a bit of film production could (hopefully) be a non-contentious opportunity for Meghan. I wondered about the "Russian spy" bit, but then remembered the palace employed Anthony Blunt for years, even after he was caught

I hope this thread survives. I've been fascinated by the discussion.

Sorry, don't know how I got that capitalisation on "sell" ...

Wolfgirrl · 08/07/2020 20:17

@AnneOfQueenSables why? She was a television actress who married into one of the most misogynistic institutions in the world for fame & money. I wouldn't listen to her.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 08/07/2020 20:17

Blossom513 · 08/07/2020 20:20

Maverick just reminds me of Top Gun. And the TG sequel is called Maverick and I'm totally gutted it's release has been delayed due to the virus 😫

SunbathingDragon · 08/07/2020 20:40

Definitely. This could be a real turning point in how she is perceived. I’ll be interested in seeing this.
calmcoolandcollected · 08/07/2020 20:51

She is not teaming up with Michelle Obama. They are both speaking at at Girls Up, UN conference on global leadership. Michelle Obama is also speaking. They are not appearing together.

AnneOfQueenSables · 08/07/2020 20:56

why?
She was outspoken on feminist issues from a young age and I think she has a genuine interest hence why I think it's a good fit. Whether you personally would listen to her or would define her by her marriage, is irrelevant especially if she has a behind-the-scenes role. If she can link in with the Obamas it also brings her credibility and gravitas that she is lacking.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/07/2020 21:53

That sounds pretty accurate, but I was surprised to see that even the Mail did a straight-down-the-middle report on the forthcoming "Girls Up" thing
It followed with some waspish reporting on Harry's Commonwealth speech, but stuck to what seem the facts with Meghan

Quite a refreshing change really, though how long it'll last is anyone's guess

calmcoolandcollected · 08/07/2020 22:14

As a person who lives in a Commonwealth country, I believe any reporting on that speech could have been far more critical. I don't appreciate a man coming from the epitome of privilege lecturing me, as a member of the Commonwealth, on what I "should" be doing. It was tone deaf and failed to recognize what has been done.

In my country, we did a lot of things wrong, and our indigenous population is still paying the price of our government's attempt to assimilate them, against their will. But that has been addressed over the past number of decades, and is still being addressed by people on both sides of the aisle. I don't need some privileged prince, or his woke wife lecturing me on an issue they obviously have zero understanding of.

Wolfgirrl · 08/07/2020 22:17

@AnneOfQueenSables regardless of her potential, do you not find it distasteful? Her proclamations of feminism were clearly hot air as she gave up her job, family and country to marry a prince and live off the money of a tax system she has never contributed to. It is the least feminist thing ever.

narrowboatgirl · 08/07/2020 22:18

Can we please stop calling black and biracial women who stand up to racism “woke.”

It’s bad enough when it’s hurled against white people engaged in anti-racism.

How did she give up her family, country and career?

She’d left her birth country years ago to move to Canada for her career. And is now back in her hometown near her mum. She gave up her acting career to focus on being a “humanitarian” which appears to be a somewhat nebulous term covering being a sort of vague influencer and public speaker who does charity work. That’s the career path she’d been heading down for a while before she met Harry, which is smart since she knew she’d never be an A lister as an actress.

NoisyNeighours · 08/07/2020 22:25

Well she has managed to convince her prince from said misogynistic institution to not only listen but to join her so she must be pretty formidable in real life
