News on Meghan and Harry

Since they are in the news more or less daily why not a thread on this. Latest I've read over the last few days is that Meghan is going to produce a film from a book. And later this month she is teaming up with Michelle Obama for project on gender equality. Both sound interesting projects.

Well, that took a funny turn.

I think it was a useful springboard for her. Shes kept the 'duchess' title so she is obviously down with the class divide when it works in her favour.

I don't believe that. I think she didn't realize how mind boring a lot of things the royals do really are. Had she known, I suspect she would not have agreed to that life from the get go.

Just because we have a female queen now, it doesnt change what has led us to this point and all the other ills it represents.

But I don't think the institution is misogynistic today. I believe the press is, though. I doubt the attacks on Diana, Sarah, Sophie, Kate, and Meghan would have occurred with such ferocity, if at all, were they the male spouse of a member of the BRF.

Come on, we all know she is after one thing, woke A-lister Hollywood fame, with all the hypocritical trappings to go with it like private jets etc.

If she was a keen environmentalist she wouldn't be running an enormous mansion just for the 3 of them.

How anyone would think she is an inspiration to young women is beyond me.

I don’t think Meghan was bored. Her worst enemy couldn’t fault her formidable work ethic, and she seems to be an extrovert who loves meeting new people and being around groups, especially groups of woman and POC women. She seemed really happy plowing all her energy into things like the Grenfell Kitchen cookbook, and the other charity that provided training and clothing for marginalised women. Neither of those were glamorous or high profile.

I don't recall MM saying much about the environment. Harry, OTOH . .

I agree MM would have remained a D list actress had she not married Harry, and would not have met Beyonce, or George Clooney, or Elton John. But I still don't believe she realized the intense scrutiny she would face, or that she was in a "pecking order" as a working member of the BRF, or that a lot of the work she'd be doing would be dull. But then again, a lot of work I do is routine and dull, it's not all excitement and challenge, and I suspect that's the case with most things in life. It just tells me she wasn't suited for this particular type of work.

Neither of those were glamorous or high profile.

Were they not high profile, you wouldn't know of them.

I do think she was bored, and I think the restrictions of royal life were not for her. If they were, she would still be living in the UK.

I must say I still don't know exactly why she left. Most jobs are a lot of slog even the glamorous ones. I watched a programme about Margot Fonteyn once and it's not all first nights, curtain calls and bouquets of roses.

Is Meghan a citizen of the Commonwealth?
I didn’t think she held a British passport or had changed nationality. Update me here if l am wrong ??
I thought she was still a US citizen and therefore not a Commonwealth subject/ citizen.

Meghan could open a kipper factory in Huddersfield on a rainy Wednesday morning and it would be headline news all around the world with her outfit and every movement and facial expression carefully scrutinised.

I believe if she’d been allowed to raise her son in relative privacy and allowed to focus on her own charity projects, she would have been perfectly happy and not left.

Housekeepers and various admin staff yes, but what about the senior positions?
Has there ever been a Mistress of the Household or a Lady High Chamberlain for example? Or maybe a female "Lord" Steward, Private Secretary or Royal Physician?

She isn't British

The couple declined fast-tracking her through the naturalisation process (reported on around the time of the wedding), and she has not been in the country enough to be building up qualifying residency.

I do not know what her Canadian status is.

American actors working on shows in Canada (Suits was an American program filmed in Toronto, as it's cheaper to film there) are almost always non residents. They are not required to obtain visas to work in Canada.

What, you mean her entire acting career and her many years of charity work?

You could make that claim about anyone. Surely people work hard at their boring office jobs because it “benefits them”, not because they believe accountancy makes the world a better place? Meghan could cure cancer and she’d still be accused of just doing it to attention whore.

At least she HAS work ethic. She, the Queen, Anne and Sophie are the only Royals who do.

I've obviously been in the wrong parts of Mumsnet. Woke is mostly used against trans activists who sen not to understand the difference between sex and gender.

She absolutely could have done that and I'm sure Harry would have been very happy. They could have stepped back from most Royal duties, settled into a Cotswold mansion near the Soho farmhouse set. Sent Archie to a local private school and let him enjoy the company of his cousins and days out to watch Daddy play polo. Harry could have done the odd military gig and they both roll up for the big occasions, Trooping the colour, Ascot, Remembrance Day.

Security would have been a doddle and no one would have complained.

Obviously that isn't what she wanted though. And people are cross that they are sitting in their borrowed mansion delivering lectures to the country they have turned their backs on. I hate a lecture, me. 😵
